Christopher Robin (2018)
Bring a handkerchief
I am a 56-yr old married white male and I went to see this film with my wife on a Saturday afternoon. I was blown away by the acting, the CGI, the storyline as well as the "life-lessons". The cinematography is superb with sweeping panoramas (vistas), gorgeous colors combined with stunning CGI.
Ewan McGregor gives an exceptional & very believable performance, and the newcomer Bronte Carmichael as Christopher Robin's daughter-Madeline.
This film is very family friendly: no violence, no profanity, no sex.
I can recommend this film to any/all fans of A.A. Milne's stories
Dunkirk (2017)
Chaotic & Non-Sensical; like watching a bunch of GoPro YouTube videos
I know this film is getting rave reviews by almost everyone, but in all honesty...I thought it stunk. From the very first moments, I felt like I was watching a bunch of GoPro videos on YouTube that were stitched together. The screenshots are very chaotic & non-sensical. To make my point, there are multiple scenes where it's nighttime and it's dark and flames all around, then the very next scene it's broad daylight with sunshine & blue sky. The director cuts repeatedly from ships being torpedoed, Spitfire aerial dogfights, men standing on a long causeway. This film has minimal dialogue in fact there's very little acting at all...it's all explosions, sinking ships & dogfights.
In the end, the one absolutely amazing moment was Kenneth Branagh viewing the wide panoramic vista of English civilian boats sailing in to rescue the trapped army.
Before going to the theater, I spent time reading Encyclopedia Britannica as well as Wikipedia too as I wanted to know the real "factual" history. Thankfully, this tale is extremely close to the truth with only one exception and that'd be the huge numbers of soldiers that were captured by Nazi Germans as POWs.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016)
Not 100% Family Friendly
Saw it today (11/18) and it's pretty good except for one caveat: not the most "family- friendly" film, especially the parts where the cruel mother punishes her son with his own belt (humiliation). Some children might have issues with these scenes that depict the cruel mother played by Samantha Morton beating/abusing a 19yr old son. The mother's beatings are very humiliating and the scenes are very dark....probably not okay for small children.
the CGI is very well done, the CG created beasts are wonderful as well as believable.
the whole story-line seemed to drag on a bit longer than it really needed to, probably could've eliminated some of the fluff...
the ending is definitely setup for more films yet to come.
The Outer Limits (1995)
Sofia Shinas
This young woman is voluptuous in the classic sense (i.e.. Sophia Loren or Claudia Cardinale). It just amazes me that she hasn't gotten more film roles. I watched her in this episode of "Outer Limits" in which she plays an inorganic human that is fully functional. Almost makes me wish I could be around when technology reaches this point. The great thing is this character cooks, cleans, plays chess, is a perfect 10 out of 10 to look at and has sex on demand. Not to mention, she comes with a remote cut-off switch. You gotta love technology!
