Anne (2017)
Direct Adaptation of Akage no An
This is a great series, but I can't give the production full credit as scenes are direct copy of Akage no An directed by Isao Takahata in 2010. Go watch it and see how they closely match.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Barely watchable
This is not the Star Trek that Gene Roddenberry had intended. It's a mishmash of bunch of scifi franchises such as Ghost in the Shell, Firefly, Red Faction, ST films based on Kelvin timeline, etc. The legacy should have been left alone and not tempered with. They should have reframed the story by saying that this story happens in yet another alternate ST universe. The scriptwriting is not great and the story feels very forced to make an unlikely connection between the TNG and this series. While I forgive the fact that the space ships and their interior don't appear very "Star Trek," they do appear to look like they were borrowed from other low-budget scifi franchises. The special FX on the other hand look abysmal and outdated. After episode 3, I had to stop watching. This show had a lot of potential, but they seemed to have ruined it due to much ego involved in making the show.
Paradise Hills (2019)
A lot of potentials, but falls short
I love the concept and beautiful art direction, but the editing and scriptwriting are not very good esp. at the beginning of the film... Few bad castings, course takes (despite some high caliber talent), and bad chemistry between characters really pushed it towards the territory of unwatchable... The amazing set design and Bjork and Iris Van Herpen-inspired wardrobe kept the film interesting though. I personally put this film in the same category as Oblivion-a beautiful design. As a design 7/10, as a film 5/10. I really wanted this film to be amazing, but it was not...
Kings (2009)
I give my first highest vote to a television series
After being moved by numerous episodes of Kings, I've decided to write a review for the first time on IMDb (or any other video site).
First of all, I usually don't watch TV, especially reality, sitcom, and series. I despise majority of trash that networks put out on TV for pure profit. However, Kings seemed to have skewed my perspective towards Hollywood - maybe Hollywood still has a bit of passion left. Perhaps some contents can be good and profitable, as well as satisfying pedantic and niche viewers such as myself.
With this being said, I just cannot describe how incredible Kings is! The character development, acting, and scriptwriting are all spectacular. I would like to give props to everyone who made this series possible. Despite its similarity with David and Goliath or basically knowing how the story will progress, the series still manages to surprise me during every episode.
I really hope that NBC continues with this series. I will definitely look forward to purchasing the DVD box set if the series survives.
I've been watching this series on Hulu and it gave me this message when I was attempting to "express" my thoughts about the show. "This review is very similar to a previous review someone already posted." - this is very annoying. What do I have to do to get have opinion heard? Why can't these corporations open up more?
