World Trade Center (2006)
WTC - rent it
I was really hoping for more out of this movie. It had a couple of teary moments, but mostly because I was reflecting on my own memories of 9/11 and the reality of that day. I almost felt I was watching a made-for-TV-movie. The movie doesn't delve deep enough into that entire day, so watching it I didn't think "oh it's too soon". The characters were lean - not very meaty or developed. The actors did a great job, but unfortunately the script was just lacking UMPH! Some of the lines were clichéd and obvious. Too obvious. On a good note -the shots of the buildings were scary real...and maybe some of the shots were real and not computer generated, I'm not sure. And Nicholas Cage looked really good! But overall, not a great movie.
The Banger Sisters (2002)
Enjoyable and quirky.
I wasn't expecting much from this movie, but ended up enjoying it! Susan Sarandon plays a character like a lot of mothers. She's been so busy bringing up a family, that she forgets who she is and what she stands for and Suzette, Goldie Hawn brings her "back". This movie reminds you to be true to yourself. Remember who you were at 18? Well, some of that teenager, some of her beliefs and dreams are still inside you. And I love how neurotic the 16 year old daughter is --"Ginger, open your throat." She has a little phlegm problem. This movie has some very real moments. I think that most women could appreciate it!
The Rules of Attraction (2002)
The movie had great potential --it just never got THERE.
I was thoroughly entertained by the first hour of the movie. Loved the reverse, loved the commentary of each character, loved how we saw from different characters points of view. Loved James Van Der Beek & Shannyn Sossaman. Only after watching the DVD special features, did I GET what was intended. It's supposed to be this love triangle. However, because other characters are thrown in there --Victor & Jessica Biel, I think the main POINT is somewhat lost. So, Lauren & Paul used to date? Why does Sean "love" Lauren so much? Did something actually happen between them? I liked the split/screen hallway shot, but I didn't realize how much of a pivotal point that was until I watched the special features. Good movie. Had great potential but it just never got THERE.
