The Third Man (1949)
Redundant and Boring
There's absolutely nothing unique about this movie. It's interesting but quickly becomes annoying and boring. I'm shocked by the "Masterpiece," and "flawless," comments and the high ratings.
The music is terrible, and redundant. We hear the theme song over and over again throughout the movie. The setting is also redundant and much better movies have been made before and after this in the same area. The bad-boy faking his own death has been done hundreds of times before this. The woman loves bad-boy and ignores the loving friend....geez...where do I start? The dialog is stilted and the acting likewise. Like, no one EVER filmed a movie with unique angles? How about Fritz Lang, Billy Wilder, Orson Welles and so many others. What better movies are out there? How about "Double Indemnity," "Ministry of Fear," "Sunset Boulevard," "M","Citizen Kane," "The Cabinet of Dr Caligari.....well you get the picture.
This is just a plain thriller that gets less thrilling with every wail of zither music, every smirk of the stupid female, and every whine of the wonderful Joseph Cotton. On yeah, and Orson Welles mumbles, but has the best scenes. The wonderful Trevor Howard is there for comedy relief and realistic lines.
One Magic Christmas (1985)
How did THIS earn a "G" Rating??!
(Spoilers ahead)........When this movie came out from Disney we went to see it. How could we go wrong? It was from Disney and it had a sweet title. Boy, were we duped!! How on earth did the murder, drownings, depression, and other adult themes pass the ratings board?? Geez.
The movie is stark, dark and unrelentingly depressing. Until the surprise ending, which, by the way.....we know nothing about during the movie.
Mary Steenbergen is a good actress, but it is her personality to talk slowly and usually look like she's drugged. In this movie it was dwelled on and she's given a highly depressed role to play....she does it to the hilt. She's a mother with lots of problems and she's also contemplating suicide.
While watching this movie, I was thinking of every sad event in my life and it had me wanting to do the same......Until we walked into the daylight.
I'm so happy we didn't have children at the time.
Yes, we always want our kids to know that bad things exist. They see it in the news and hear about it. BUT I won't pay to have my children exposed to adult themes which came posed as a heartwarming" and "Magic Christmas." I'd rather get a root canal.
Being Human (2011)
Just Like the BBC "Original" Series
BUT without the good acting, humor, scripts, direction, and film editing.
Even if I hadn't seen the BBC Original series, I would give this one low marks. It tries so hard to be an original series but falls into the problem areas of all other "SYFY series-of-the-week" losers before it.
My biggest issue (besides those listed above), is that this series lacks heart and humor. The characters are dull, droll and BORING! They constantly WHINE and they're always angry about being monsters, making them less than sympathetic and interesting.
How to make it better? Fire the writers you have now. Hire new ones and new actors with talent. The actors should be able to act and be reasonably attractive. These actors are neither.
Warehouse 13 (2009)
I Gave It A Chance......No Improvement
Take every popular, well-made show and movie you've ever seen. Rip off all the plots, premises, tag-lines, etc. Leave out the originality and superior acting......and you've got "Warehouse 13." That is exactly why the great majority of reviews here mention the names of movies and shows that this copies from.
I've watched every episode, hoping it would get better. But it simply isn't. If anything, the characters are becoming more annoying. What is the real plot here?? Three of the most inept people in the World are managing a Warehouse filled with the most powerful and dangerous items in the world. If anything, the world is in MORE danger when these nitwits get involved! If the characters weren't annoying or bungling enough, now they've added a whiny "youngster," to make the management of the great Warehouse even more damaging.
I gave it more than a chance....I gave it my time. No more Thank You!
