The Dukes of Hazzard (2005)
What the heck, I was entertained!
Considering the source material they had to work with, this movie was a fun Summer Flick. Johnny Knoxville and Sean William Scott were convincing and very funny as the two lovable hillbillies from Hazzard County. Burt Reynolds' character could have been played by anyone, but he did a very good job. Willie Nelson, who hasn't been in a film in awhile (I think Honeysuckle Rose with Dyan Cannon was the last movie I saw him in) was great as Uncle Jesse. And of course, Jessica Simpson was adorable! The parentage of the 1980's television show was obvious, particularly with the voice-over narration during freeze frames of picture. Good soundtrack featuring The Allman Brothers, ZZ Top and Lynard Skynard. Overall, I expected much less and was pleasantly surprised.
Land of the Dead (2005)
Piece 'O Crap
If you have seen "Night Of The Living Dead" or any of George Romero's other zombie flicks, then you've already seen this movie without wasting another precious ninety minutes of your life! In fact, if you saw last fall's British homage to this over-done genre "Shawn Of The Dead", then you've actually seen this movie twice already! In other words, there's nothing new here. George Romero reminds me of a magician who continually pulls the same rabbit out of his unimaginative hat. Come on, George, don't you have any other ideas at your so-called "think tank" in Pittsburgh? Tom Savini enjoys a brief cameo as, what else, a zombie! As for Savini, I actually rented his re-make of "Night Of The Living Dead" (which was pathetic in color) and returned it to the video store demanding a refund! Save your money! Don't waste a penny on this PIECE 'O CRAP!!!!
Playing Mona Lisa (2000)
Worth renting
I saw this movie a couple years ago when I was a videotape operator working the graveyard shift. I was recently reminded of it when I saw it for sale at the checkout line at the grocery store. Weak storyline, funny situations and interesting characters. The only reason to go out of your way to see this flick is that Brooke Langton looks GREAT in it. She looks better in this film than she looked on Melrose Place! Marlo Thomas and Elliot Gould share a funny scene as a middle-aged couple who accidentally take a hit of LSD. By the way, the screenplay is based on a play titled "Two Goldsteins on Acid". Harvey Firestein is great as a love-sick gay man (not a big stretch for him to get into that character!) and the supporting cast does a very good job. Watch it on a rainy Saturday afternoon and you won't be disappointed.
