Sweet Sixteen (1983)
Sweet Sixteen Could Have Worked
Penelope Keith as a 42 middle-aged woman who was single and pregnant with her young lovers baby was seen as quite shocking back in the 80's. Penelope Keith played Helen Angela Walker/Morgan who ran a construction company started by her Father. Helen has a 19 year old son from her husband who had died years earlier.
Christopher Villiers who at first seemed like a player who was just messing around with the boss. Upon discovering Helen was pregnant he was forced to grow up fast.
Helen was a strong forceful woman who did not tolerate any rubbish from her employees or from those she did business with.
The show ONLY lasted six episodes. Too bad. It has potential. There was several hilarious moments. I do NOT want to see a remake as it would take so many liberties over the original that it would be boring.
The supporting cast was good.
Arthur Poole the long time employee who started working for the company back when Helen's Father was alive. He has promised Helen's Father he would look after her. Poor Arthur had gotten on in age. He was also married to Millie. In one episode Arthur had gotten stuck on the roof of a home the company was constructing and was too afraid to climb back down the ladder.
Millie Poole was a strong, bossy woman who even intimidated Helen slightly. That is why Peter hired her to being their housekeeper. Someone who would do the cooking and cleaning and could keep Helen in line.
Ken was well played by Victor Spinetti. Ken was a low-key man who would make kind suggestions to Helen. He was the one man she would listen to.
Joan Blackham played Jane a smart, loyal woman who was Helen's secretary and confident. She would make snarky remarks to Peter who once threatened to have her fired only for her to calmly point out if she was fired who would point out he had Helen's lipstick on his cheek.
Mike Grady played Dr Ballantine. Helen intimidated him most of the time except in one episode when he was furious with her because her blood pressure was very high. In the very last episode he had brought Helen and Peter a pair of kissing fish as a present.
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Silicon Avatar (1991)
Episode defied common decency
Everyone running around acting sanctimoniously in defense of a cold-blooded killer was disgusting! When Captain Picard and Data admonished Dr Marr for killing the monster I wanted to throw up! The writers showed themselves to be severely out of touch with reality in this episode. The idea that people of the future would care more about making contact with a new life form than protecting billions of people is nothing short of insane! There is NOTHING remotely superior in that! Just the opposite! That should a lack of humanity! EVERY DECENT PERSON WATCHING CHEERED WHEN THAT EVIL MONSTER WAS BLOWN UP!
Double, Double Toil and Trouble (1993)
Adorable movie
This is such a sweet movie. Mary Kate and Ashley are adorable and Cloris Leachman plays both roles of evil Aunt Agatha and sweet Aunt Sophie very well.
The parents are a little clueless at times but they do follow the clues to find their missing daughters.
Oscar is the most responsible one among them as Mr N (short for Plato Nofziger which was too hard for the girls to say so they decided to just call him Mr N) was originally only after the moon stone.
I think most kids of today would enjoy this movie.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Time's Orphan (1998)
Missed subplots
Some people hate children, my condolences so their reviews are not take seriously. I love children and I loved part of the concept of parents trying to deal with a suddenly aged wild child. But as has been pointed out there surely would have been highly qualified psychologists who could have treated Molly. Even if by nothing else by a hologram of a Psychologist like counselor Troi.
I was a bit miffed that Worf didn't show much concern about Molly AFTER ALL he DID deliver her. That USUALLY creates a bond.(Star Trek The Next Generation "Disaster") But alas the writers were too busy trying (and failing) to be clever.
Unlike some I did like the older Molly sending the younger Molly back knowing full well her life would change.
Walker, Texas Ranger: The Juggernaut (1996)
Woman Power
I am by no means a radical feminist nor is my Mother BUT we were both groaning in disgust at the things that Brad was saying to Connie. Typical Abuser garbage! Blame the victim for their own savage behavior!
I loved how gentle and supportive Jimmy and CD were except when Brad shows up and Jimmy punches Brad in self-defense when the coward (Brad) tried to spring a surprise attack on Jimmy.
I love when the women garner enough courage to fight back against the animal (Brad!) and Walker shows up after the women have already beaten Brad up! I love it when Walker shakes his head at Brad and then says to the ladies "He should have run the other way."
Walker, Texas Ranger: Break-In (1996)
Walker Undercover
"Break In" wasn't too bad but I have a few nits. First of all how on earth did the two men in the beginning become Texas Rangers with reflexes as slow as theirs? Alex Cahill would have responded faster.
Walker posing as a professional hit man gets to beat up a few inmates.
But later on Jimmy disappears without any explanation. Unless he had to leave with the prisoner whom Walker knocked out and asked Jimmy to hide. If so it should have been made more clear.
I Love Lucy: Lucy Writes a Play (1952)
A Hilarious Episode
I love this episode. It is one of my favorites because I love the comedy of errors. Lucy writes a play for her Woman's Club and tries to trick Ricky into playing the male lead by making the play about his life back in Cuba. Rickey wants nothing to do with it so Lucy, Ethel and Fred decide to do an English variation of the Cuban play.
Later on when Ricky discovers there will be a movie producer judging the plays he asks Fred to let him to the role. Fred tries to tell him the play has been changed but Ricky interprets him and assures him he knows all about the play.
I often wonder IF the scene where Ethel reads her lines exactly as written was the inspiration for Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004).
Where Ethel reads the line "That's nice?" instead of "That's nice." lol.
Last of the Summer Wine: Getting Sam Home (1983)
Disgusting and not very Christmasy
Trying to make one feel sorry for a immoral relationship is disgusting. There is never any excuse for adultery and to make it out as touching is pathetic and ignorant.
I wish Roy Clarke had taken a different approach entirely with this episode. The mistress' never deserve any sympathy. They make their beds and then expect everyone to feel sorry for them.
Howard and Maria were gross in the first few years. Marina is NOT attractive inside or out. Pearl was actually way more attractive than Marina and especially so when she was made up. Marina always struck me as the gross type with lipstick on the teeth and a heavy smokers breathe. Bleah!
Sam was an idiot and didn't draw much sympathy.
It takes more than clever dialogue to make a good story. That is why I always skip this so-called Christmas story. I much prefer Small Tune on a Penny Wassail. Way more Christmasy and a much sweeter story.
Widows (2018)
Black Widows = Ultra-Cliched
Seen this type of movie hundreds of times before. And as for anyone suggesting that the interracial element is anything other than a snooze fest has been living under a rock. Interracial relationships were no big deal back in the 80's. I saw them everywhere including in school. SMH
And the wives finishing their husbands crime. ZZZZZzzzz! Not even Liam Neeson or Viola can save this sleeper.
I laugh at all the stupid reviews (that sound almost as if they're paid to give glowing reviews) from various newspapers and even one's online. They either sound like paid reviews or kiddies who haven't seen more than ten films in their entire lives.
While Liam Neeson is a very good actor MOST of his movies stink! Two are even an abomination (showing pedophiles in a positive light. 'The Good Mother' & 'Kinsey') that he SHOULD apologize for but the others are just not for everyone. Some are strictly a guys movie or they're so soppy and preachy about things that HAVE been already covered in numerous movies like losing a loved one to cancer, living with someone through cancer, Hello?! We;re talking about half of the Lifetime Movie channel lineup!
He needs to pick better movies. I would gladly help seeing as I do have a natural knack at picking winners from losers. I DID predict this film would do badly back in May of this year!
Pope: The Most Powerful Man in History (2018)
The Ignorance of Unbelievers
Shame on those claiming there is no proof Jesus said the things the Bible said he did. Nowadays there may not be as much evidence BUT there IS evidence of Both the existence of Jesus AND of the many things he said and did. But sadly, the non-believers ONLY see what they want to see and disregard anything that dares contradict their childish opinions.
Oh and Jesus was NOT saying that Peter was the rock. Duuuuuuh! On your words......................HELLLLO?! Peter's words were "YOU ARE THE CHRIST!" So CHRIST is the Rock! NOT Peter! Duh! I can't believe how incredibly ignorant so many people are. smh
Arrow: Dangerous Liaisons (2017)
Felicity vs Arrow
I have to disagree. Myself and most of my friends thought Felicity vs Team Arrow was awesome! This IS the road the writers should go down. Oliver and Felicity are boring together. Arrow and Canary are always meant to be. Leaving out the main guy just to build a possible new threat is a bit lame. I myself couldn't care less about the stupid Helix. They bore the heck out of me. In my fanfic I purposely have them destroyed by a new and way cooler threat. I also think that the writers are way too short-sighted in the way they so quickly dispense with characters. I also hope they don't resolve the whole Rene/Zoe thing too quickly. There IS some potential there. But I doubt the writers even begin to see it. The show needs some new writers. Maybe one's whose opinions are not stupidly and boringly lock and step with everyone else. Just saying.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Alpha's Magical Christmas (1994)
Alpha's Christmas Special
I doubt if anything I write contains any "Spoilers" but maybe something may surprise people but I'd hardly call what I'll be writing as a spoiler. I Remember seeing this Special for the First time back in 1993! Not 1994! It was made during the First season with the entire original American Cast. That is why Tommy was in the Green Ranger Uniform. That WAS the color of his Ranger outfit then. And Jason, Zach and Trini were also in it but via the viewing globe. But after those Three Actors left after demanding raises, There part was cut and a new ending with Rocky, Adam and Aisha was added. This is why so many people are confused why Tommy was wearing his Green Power Ranger uniform since he had become the White Ranger before meeting Rocky, Adam and Aisha. The Story is okay. I have the '94 version though I'd love to get a hold of the '93 version but I bet those scenes with Jason, Zach and Trini have been destroyed. I don't know why they did the Christmas Special like this. With the cast members only appearing at the end. I guess they just wanted to have kids and music. But this didn't go over very well so they did a better Christmas Special called 'I'm Dreaming of a White Ranger' which was much more entertaining.
Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)
Star Dreck The Banal Frontier
What are the folks at Paramount smoking?! They must have been flying high on Crack the day they hired that 5th Rate writing hack J.J Abrams. The Franchise WAS NOT in trouble due to lack of interest the way so many pathological liars claim! Nor was the Original nor the The Next Generation out of ideas! To make such a farcical claim JUST because the writers THEY CHOSE couldn't come up with anything original is completely disingenuous! There ARE THOUSANDS OF IDEAS STILL WITHIN THE ORIGINAL AND THE NEXT GEN! It just takes a Truly imaginative and talented Writer to (ahem) demonstrate this. MAGIC BLOOD?! LOL!! I guess Abrams forgot half-way through this drivel that he was ATTEMPTING to write a Star Trek movie and wandered into a Harry Potter one. And the characters?! Talk about awful! They STINK! They are bereft of life! They have about as much personality as a piece of cardboard. Those loving these toxic waste-dump movies are the sort who enjoy watching movies in a vegetative state. I will hope and pray that the morons at Paramount will not allow Abrams ANYWHERE near Star Trek in the future. Oh and wanting Star Trek to respect the integrity and vision of Gene Roddenberry hardly makes us Real Trekkies "Purists" as one jerk called us. It makes us Loyal! Which is what these fly-by-night fans of these toxic waste-dump movies DON'T HAVE! Anytime they want me to prove them wrong and That I'm right! BRING IT! Of course I will have several demands. I also bet I could get ALL of the original Next Gen Cast to come back in some capacity or other. TOO OLD?! GO TO HADES! Only an incompetent unimaginative half-wit would be unable to use their age and fitness level to their advantage....................? Also I noticed something interesting about the bulk of those WAY OVERSELLING HOW "GREAT THE MOVIE WAS" is that they sound a LOT alike! I strongly suspect that MOST of these so-called "Independent Reviews" were in FACT ALL WRITTEN BY THE SAME PERSON USING DIFFERENT SIGN-ONS! Typical of the type of trick studios use to promote a movie that WAS NOTHING BUT A DISGUSTING WASTE OF FILM FROM BEGINNING TO END! The Sooner Abrams leaves the better! Let him go destroy some other franchise! And his employees can then write all sorts of hilariously over-the-top reviews for those movies instead! LOL!
