Malevolent (2018)
Thriller.... really?
According to Netflix this is a thriller... no it's not! As identified in other reviews it's a tale of two halves. The first half is a pretty decent thriller with enough jumpy moments to be interesting, then everything goes bad... in terms of script and acting too. Worst of all it suddenly becomes a 3rd rate slasher movie completely unnecessarily. Why can't script writers be more intelligent and why can't Netflix rate this as a horror movie at the very least.
Sunshine (2007)
Poorly written SciFi DRAMA
I watched this movie based on the 7.3 rating on IMDb and was staggered that it got even close to this rating.
Factually as far from accurate as it is possible to get on so many fronts, without being justified by being exciting. That the most important space mission in the history of mankind could be jeopardized by an unplanned and risky mission to a previously failed mission just wouldn't happen.
Throw in a bunch of emotionally unstable idiots who wouldn't be allowed near a spaceship let a lone one of such vital importance. Top it off with a vitally important mainframe that can be so easily disable by pushing a few buttons.... err really?
I've watched many SciFi movies and this does not rank in the top 30% by any stretch of the imagination. Save yourself the 107 minutes time of watching this movie and choose something else more meaningful to do with your time.
Banshee (2006)
Somewhat predictable thriller but still watchable
Sage is a car thief who inadvertently steals the car of a serial killer, who then pursues her. She's had a tough life and is quite the tough cookie as a result and knows how to take care of herself. The cat and mouse chase that ensues is predictable, if still entertaining enough to watch. Sage's relationship with the cops (good cop, bad cop)is stereotypical of the movies with the rookie being overly dumb for a detective and not very convincing. The "experienced" bad cop is blind to evidence and annoys as a result.
Filmed with typical Canadian style on location in Montreal, it has some endearing qualities, one of which is that it uses Hitchcockesque inference so there are no seriously gruesome scenes, so it shouldn't give you nightmares.
