Enemy at the Door (1978)
Excellent Story lines.
Great actors in this, but it is the individual storylines that make this an excellent series. Each episode has a different story. One particular episode that is particularly poignant is the episode called Jerrybag, Season 1, episode 9. In this episode a young woman becomes a cleaner at the German HQ and meets a German soldier. They fall in love and young woman becomes pregnant, she is shunned by some members of the local community, matters are made worse when the soldier is posted to the Russian front where he is killed. Despite being told she should put the baby up for adoption, she keeps baby.
Spotlight (2015)
Excellent movie.
Went to see this movie because I heard it being compared to 'All the Presidents Men'. From start to finish I was engrossed in this movie. The acting was superb,Mark Ruffalo really played his part with passion. The subject of the movie, clerical child abuse, is harrowing, but nonetheless it is a story that has to be told. We should never forget all those children who for decades faced abuse at the hands of priests whom they trusted and looked up to. It is sickening to to see in the movie how the Catholic church tried at every turn to cover up the abuse perpetrated by its priests.'Spotlight' brings the stories of abuse victims to light, and while there is good and bad in everyone, those that abuse the trust others put in them should be prosecuted and not have their crimes covered up,whether it be by the Catholic Church or anyone else.I would highly recommend this movie,go and see this. While their is a sad story being told the actors and director brought this story to light vividly. There is a tension in the movie that keeps you interested until the very end.
Triumph des Willens (1935)
Amazing
Whatever ones beliefs this is amazing. Leni Riefenstahl was a great director with amazing vision. Not alone is there all the marching and saluting which one would expect from a documentary filmed in Nazi Germany but Riefenstahl also gives snap shots of the people who are in the crowd at the various events. The looks of amazement and zeal on the faces of many who are watching is testimony, in my opinion ,to how mesmerizing an event this was.Riefenstahl captures the atmosphere and the excitement of this event. The last seen where Hitler is giving a fiery speech shows Riefenstahls genius at work. The camera angles are amazing and give a feeling of being there.I would highly recommend this not only to historians but also to students of film.
The Last Drop (2006)
World War 2 action and adventure.
I really enjoyed this movie.Great action. An excellent story. There does not seem to be enough movies like this these days.I like the way the different characters in the movie all came together in their own search for the Nazi loot.Greed certainly knows no bounds.I can imagine that an episode like this would have happened during WW2.As far as I know there are still 36 crates of Nazi gold still unaccounted for somewhere in the Bavarian Alps. All in all a great movie, excellent acting. Its a pity that some of the lesser known actors in this movie are not seen in more movies.Another movie along similar lines is Operation Amsterdam also a great story loosely based on real events.
