Cursed (2005)
Absolutely dreadful
If a person needs proof that Hollywood could actually make a worse werewolf-themed movie than "An American Werewolf in Paris" they should watch "Cursed".
I read that it had a lot of trouble during the 'creative' process. I wonder why no one chose to scrap it entirely after a few weeks of problems? They would've been doing the genre a favor.
The bits with Craig Kilborn were amusing, but when the movie came out the people who produced his show were already auditioning for his replacement. A film made in Los Angeles focusing somewhat on the entertainment business can only get Scott Baio as a 'celebrity' star? Why not hire Hasselhoff instead?
Awful. Awful movie. After seeing it I went home and watched "Ginger Snaps" and "Dog Soldiers". That's the way to make a werewolf movie.
Did Wes Craven peak in the '80's? We'll know if "Redeye" blows.
Boudica (2003)
I was disappointed
There was only one scene in this entire movie that made me actually pay attention to it, and that was its most horrifying: the scene where Boudica's daughters are raped by the Romans.
I found it difficult to watch.
The rest of the movie was a poor man's imitation of "Braveheart", and a bad one at that.
One of the major flaws is the casting of Alex Kingston as Boudica. All through the puzzling battle scenes, I kept thinking: " 'Dr. Corday' is definetly violating the Hippocratic Oath'."
I wouldn't recommend this movie.
Gods and Generals (2003)
Reenactors and more reenactors
I saw this movie today. There were three great parts: the opening credits, with the battle flags, the Intermission and the closing credits with Bob Dylan's song. The remaining three hours were hard to endure. Too much talking, surrounding flashy, Hollywood-assisted reenactments of the battles of First Manassas, Fredricksburg and Chancelorsville. And Stephen Lang overacting as Confederate General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson.
If you have nothing better to do, do your taxes. If you've finished them, then watch this movie.
Ginger Snaps (2000)
Four Good Werewolf Movies
In the last twenty or more years there have been, in my opinion, four really good werewolf movies. The first was "American Werewolf in London." Next, "Wolf" with Jack Nicholson. Then the straight to video "Bad Moon" with Mariel Hemingway. And most recently "Ginger Snaps". The acting is great, the script well written and it reminded me of an episode of "The X-Files" complete with the Canadian (though not Vancouver) location and the eerie music. Katharine Isabelle and Emily Perkins are talented actresses who should get more work.
Taboo (2002)
If you're not an Amber Benson fan, AVOID at all costs....
On tonight's episode of MAD TV they poked fun at "How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days" by simply showing pictures of Matthew and Kate and putting a caption that said:"How to Lose Eight bucks in Two hours." The same can be said about "Taboo". Except it isn't in the theaters. It will be available at Blockbuster. Rent it, if you desire to lose four dollars and about two hours of your life and if you want to watch the flattest, emotionless, boring dialogue, actors who don't want to be there (probably more interested in the trip to Romania where it was filmed, then the movie itself). The script....was there one? Or did someone have flash cards off screen as a guide to keep the lame story moving?
The one star that this movie deserves is for Amber Benson. Her character Piper was an alcoholic. She was adorable, cute, fun, but if she wanted to make her character's vice believable she should've experimented in Method Acting and took a few shots of Jack Daniels before each scene.
That's my review.
Chance (2002)
Bedazzled by Amber Benson
I was one of the people who had the chance.....okay, opportunity to see Amber's movie at its premiere at the Sidewalk Film Festival in Birmingham, Alabama in September of 2002. I traveled from NY to see it. And it didn't disappoint. It wasn't easy to be 'open-minded' and an impartial movie-goer when you are a registered Amberholic, and are surrounded by other Amberholics. I knew I'd like it. I just didn't realize how much, until it was over. This is one Independent movie that has to be released either in the theaters, on Cable or on DVD. Amber is a talented actress. This I knew, watching her almost every week on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. "Chance" introduces us to Amber the screenwriter, Amber the director, Amber the producer. The movie is lighthearted fun, but not like the mass produced mainstream Hollywood version of a romantic comedy. The character of "Chance" couldn't be portrayed by the Julia Roberts or Sandra Bullocks of mainstream Hollywood. Hence the independent venue. There was one minor disappointment: Not enough of Andy Hallett.
I wish there could've been one more scene with Amber's 'Chance' swooning over Andy Hallet's 'Jack'. Well worth the few hundred dollars it cost me to travel to Birmingham to see the movie.
