Zom 100: Zombie ni Naru made ni Shitai 100 no Koto (2023)
People giving this a low rating don't understand
This is NOT A REGYKAR ZOMBIE MOVIE. It is a live-action anime based off of the series. If you don't like overly dramatic monologues in really perilous situations, people thinking through their entire lives as they make a simple decision with a truck about to hit them, or ridiculous bosses that the plucky adorable nobody musters up the willpower, and that's all it takes is unending willpower, to become strong, THEN YOU WON'T LIKE THIS! This is an ANIME GENRE MOVIE. It is LIVE-ACTION ANIME. If you don't understand that going into this, or you don't like anime, you will not like this film.
I thought it was super fun and adorable and ridiculous, and during the REALLY weird parts I had to think, "How would this look like in a sci-fi anime?" and then it makes perfect sense. It's not realism. It's anime.
8/10 for me because their was a character I really hated that kept showing up, but that's just me :3 I guess they needed an overarching villain hehe.
Squid Game: The Challenge (2023)
Give it a try
People who rated this 1 star (and I read a lot) aren't the target demographic for this type of show. It's not squid games season 2, it's a fancier Mr. Beast version of the original show, with real people winning or losing real money. Notice how many 1 stars there are compared to the other ratings, that's a hugely skewed distribution which implies they're either being disingenuous or were simply not the right people to enjoy the show. Reality shows aren't for everybody, I typically don't like them. But this one I found very interesting as it showed true human nature in situations like this, minus the impending possibility of actual bodily harm.
Zomboat! (2019)
Where's the rest!? This is hilarious!
Dear god a realistic zombie show with people who are portrayed realistically! The writing is awesome, directing superb, and acting is top notch. All of the actors do such an amazing job with their character arcs, objectives, wants, tactics, everything, I cannot believe I hadn't heard of this until today, and I'm bummed there isn't a second season yet
Honestly this show could go on for many seasons. So much of the dialogue is so damn realistic and things that I or someone I know would absolutely say. The characters are all in their worlds whilst living in each other's and it makes for amazing bits and... ugh..
Need me a season two through infinity.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Did they pay people to say good things about the film?
Just... no. I can't believe that bad directing and writing can take these amazing actors and just poop all over their talent, making them look like C actors who're doing a college film to beef up their resume.
I actually had to turn it off 30 mins in which I've only ever had to do with one film in my entire life, and it was not an MCU film.
Not a single joke was funny, they all fell flat, the writing was playing to the comedy WAY too much, which killed every scene. They completely glossed over Jane's transition into Lady Thor, completely chastising what should've been an epic moment. Tried to fit an unplanned character ark for Thor in 5 minutes of flashbacks. Dear god this is one of the worst movies I've ever tried to give a fighting chance.
No no no.
And so I ask again, these people who are giving it 5 stars... are they drunk, stoned, or paid to say such things, I just don't know.
The Age of Adaline (2015)
Perhaps an unpopular opinion
It's easy to write an ending where everyone gets what they want. What I, personally, find more interesting is an ending that's not hoped for, but also overcome, and the character finds a way to be as happy as they ever could be with the unwanted outcome, as is much more similar to how life actually is.
I knew she'd regain aging but I hoped not, as the dealing with that and character development henceforth would have been far more illuminating to the skills of the writers, and perhaps enlightening as to what it means to be human.
The acting was phenomenal, directing, everything. I just think that, perhaps, the writers took the slightly easier route when it came to the ending, and for that reason I've dubbed this movie as 7 stars.
Unlocking genes in humans is astronomically easier than 're-locking' them. I doubt a simple NDE would cause those genes to re-lock but, regardless, it would have made for a more interesting, albeit far more bittersweet, ending had she continued to stay physically young.
Killing Eve: Hello, Losers (2022)
Can we get a rewrite with a different writer?
Honestly I've never seen a show do this, but I'm sure many of us would be very pleased if this last episode was rewritten by someone VERY DIFFERENT, reshot, re-edited, all of it. Unlike many here, I liked the whole series, I loved season 3 and most of season 4, but this ending was profoundly lazy writing. Happiness can be just as strong a reaction as sadness and to lazily do what they did at the end just to elicit a strong response, because they're too lazy or not skilled enough to write a powerfully positive ending? Give me a break.
REDO IT!
I'd have given this episode 9 stars if inSTEAD Eve and Villanelle got the ending they deserved. Carolyn had absolutely NO reason to have Villanelle killed. She could have gone to MI6 and taken credit for the dismantling of the 12, not create a vengeful beast (Eve) by killing Villanelle, which will bite her in the rear-end down the road. Eve and Villanelle could've lived happily together, with an ambiguity surrounding the benevolence or malevolence of their future. Maybe it could've ended with the two in a bar, see a man abusing his girlfriend, then Eve and Villanelle share a look, smile, Eve grabs a knife and villanelle grabs a corkscrew, they stand up, fade to black. Imo that would've been a MUCH better ending than this garbage scene that they probably spent months on and hundreds of thousands of dollars, and it took me 30 seconds to come up with. This writer (writers?) had so much time to come up with this ending. Another Game of Thrones situation here.
REDO IT FIND ANOTHER WRITER.
Awake (2021)
Ignore these negative reviews
Well written, well directed, amazing acting. I don't care about 'scientific flaws' or whatever, it was a thoroughly enjoyable movie and very realistic beyond, of course, the sci-fi aspect of it.
Everyone was cast perfectly, and showing how humans reacted not only in a crumbling of society, but with sleep deprivation was really, I think, quite accurate.
I think many people expected it to be bad so were overly harsh in their criticism for the movie. My only complaint is I wish it went on for 10-15 more minutes.
10/10 would recommend this 8.6/10 movie.
Chaos Walking (2021)
Don't understand why so many people hate it, it's visually stunning with amazing acting.
Parts of it are predictable, but I don't need a movie to be surprising at every turn, I need it to be interesting and entertaining at every turn.
And this movie doesn't disappoint.
This movie managed to change sets and scenes every 5-10 minutes, but it didn't feel rushed. People are saying that there wasn't 'enough action' from some of the characters, but if you enjoy subtlety (and can pick up on it,) then this movie is for you.
'The Noise' is something that many directors could have made annoying and repetitive, but Chaos Walking managed to keep it interesting, funny, frustrating, and sad, depending on the scene.
I felt no frustration from watching this movie, and the only reason I didn't give it a 10/10 is because I've yet to see a movie that is perfection incarnate, but this movie does well to earn its 9 stars from me.
Ignore the reviews, even mine, and try to watch this movie with a blank slate (though I understand that reading my review may rob you of that,) devoid of other's opinions and predetermined biases.
It's a really good movie, and I'll watch it again.
Plus it has lots of shirtless Tom Holland 😏
Why Are You Like This (2018)
Everyone who rates this 1 star is precisely who this show is poking fun at
Dear god it is so nice to finally see a comedy talk about the MANY issues of 'woke' individuals and the harm they're causing in our world in the guise of open mindedness and acceptance.
This show doesn't hold any punches and makes fun of things like cancel culture, abuse of the metoo movement, playing the victim, and much more. The main characters all have narcissistic tendencies but in different ways that bounce off of each other hilariously.
I've read through these other reviews and I've seen that all (of the ones I've read) the comments that are 1-3 starring this show are precisely those whom this show is making fun of, and they can't take a joke at their own expense (another thing this show funnily talks about.)
Seriously recommend. If you are a participant of relentless cancel culture, don't accept apologies from people who make harmless mistakes, or think that the color of your skin should dictate what you can or can't do in this world, then this show isn't for you.
Come Play (2020)
Very realistic in its characters and their actions
The bad reviews on this app for this movie come from people I believe grossly set expectations that one might get from a Hollywood movie with a $250 budget. This movie, in its quaint and lovely splendor, really shows how people would react to something inexplicable and impossible, whilst dealing with the very real difficulty of navigating through a 'normal' world with a child with autism.
Oliver is a sweet boy with the biggest heart, but struggles with communication with kids his own age as well as his parents.
His parents love him to the moon and back, and his mother makes the ultimate sacrifice so her son won't succumb to the death-like existence that is living in Larry's 'world'.
The acting is perfect, the cinematography is spot on, the directing was wonderful, and Larry was creepy as hell.
Was it the scariest movie I've ever seen? No! And it doesn't need to be nor does it try to be. It strives for eeriness and creepiness, to which it delivers perfectly.
It doesn't explain the 'science' behind everything and it doesn't need to. Supernatural horrors rarely do, and when they actually do explain it ends up taking away from the fear that the movie could have evoked.
To people saying it's babadook with iPhones, they must've been drunk or high when they watched both, because the movies are completely different.
I honestly wouldn't have changed anything about the movie. Azhy Robertson's performance was spot on, as well as Gillian Jacobs' and John Gallagher Jr..
Supporting actor Winslow Fegley, who played Oliver's estranged friend, Byron, also showed skills and depth rivaling those of actors decades older than him.
I could always sense the parents' love for their child and the struggle of raising a boy with autism in a society that isn't set up for him, and their shame when they'd catch themselves thinking or daydreaming about him being "normal".
Also I watched this in my bed with AirPods underneath my blanket which I personally think is the perfect setup for this kind of movie.
I have this movie a 10/10 because I wouldn't change a single thing about it. Highly recommend.
Doctor Who: Sleep No More (2015)
Not as bad as people are saying.
This episode is unique in its execution, being a found footage sort of thing. It's exciting and spooky and has characters that develop and some that die and plays with breaking the fourth wall, the fourth wall being in your hand or on your television screen. I think it does a good job at making us, the viewers, feel like a part of the Whovian universe, and the beginning and ending does just that.
I think most people are angry because the ending didn't resolve like other episodes. We didn't get to understand everything that was happening.
As the doctor was screaming as they escaped in the Tardis at the end, "This doesn't make any sense!"
Well no not entirely, but that was the point.
Artistically, this episode was executed I think exactly how the artists who worked on it intended. Found footage, not knowing or understanding the big bad, and creepy as hell. It's basically Doctor Who's version of the video from The Ring.
I think I would've rated it higher if the man in the video's (forget his name, it's rather long,) identity was hidden better. Him dying twice made me know that the guy at the end was a sandman before the great reveal.
All in all, an enjoyable, senseless (in a good way), episode. Not everything has to make sense and I believe that that was this episode's message and I think they executed it well.
Locke & Key (2020)
Slightly predictable but very enjoyable
This show was wonderful from start to finish. You could see some of the plot twists from 20-30 minutes away, so perhaps in season 2 they can be sneaker hiding these things (except with the scrawny boyfriend I suspected he was Dodge waaaaay early on), but it was an enjoyable show! Looking forward to a season 2 that I can binge watch just like I did this :3
Charmed (2018)
Does it get better?
I actually stopped the fourth episode, minutes before finishing, because I couldn't bear to continue watching it. The acting is good. The costume design is good. Set design, good. Special effects, good. Cinematography, also good. Everything is good, except the writing. It's so annoyingly in your face, unrealistically anti-masculine and pro-feminine to a fault. Every man who makes a decision is wrong and a bad guy, and every female is right and a good guy. It's extremely simple, uninteresting dialogue, and it might've been successful in the 80s, but it won't be today, when people want to be stimulated, intellectually.
I'm sick and tired of the in your face 'feminist' movement that has overtaken so much of modern cinema, and this is a disastrously lazy example of my exhaustion. Every villain originated from a male, every stupid argument originates from a male, every example of what is bad comes from a male. It's lazy, uninteresting, mind-numbingly boring, and takes away from everything in the show that is good.
Ditch whatever writers you have now and pull in someone who cares about the original show, and bringing it into the modern era. Please stop paying people who only care about middle fingering trump to an extent which annoys and irritates even moderate democrats like me.
Male doesn't equal bad, give us something INTERESTING to work with.
Forget the politics, give us an interesting story. God.
Black Summer (2019)
DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE BAD REVIEWS, this show is PERFECTION.
I do not give authentic 10-star ratings lightly. I will occasionally give a show an anonymous 10 stars with no written review if I believe the show deserves a higher rating, but that is not the case with Black Summer.
I am twenty-five years old and I've loved zombie movies since I was introduced to Evil Dead at the age of 2 (debatable as to whether or not they're zombies but you get my drift (also that movie gave me nightmares until my teen years but I still loved it))
I have seen countless zombie tv shows and movies because I just generally love the sub genre SO much. If you asked me to count, I would have to count the ones I haven't seen.
I am also a trained actor fresh out of college, I've directed and written horror (crappy horror, I was 18 at the time xD, but horror nonetheless) short films, analyzed and critically reviewed countless performances for class and my own pleasure. I know good writing, I know bad directing, etc.
Why I'm saying all of this is so that you get a sense of who I am before you read this review because I feel many people who are giving this show a low rating completely missed the point of the entire show.
This show, hands down, the most realistic zombie experience I have ever witnessed during my twenty-five trips around the Sun. I'm not referencing the wonderful makeup, set-design, dynamic set locations, or anything else superficial like that. What I'm talking about is the very real, very authentic human experience that is portrayed here should a zombie outbreak of some kind happen. How we, as (mostly) self-proclaimed benevolent human beings would genuinely act during an apocalypse of this scale. I'm talking about the internal struggles of what is moral and what is evil, and how much of your humanity you're willing to kill in order to survive, and if there even should be a limit.
This show goes beyond a mother trying to get to her daughter, a father trying to get to his family, a criminal trying to make a fresh start, or a couple just trying to get by. In this show you'll find a plethora of subtle, unspoken narratives that don't require a voice but do require our attention. You'll find people spend days protecting each other and then, in a blink of an eye, and at that person's request, one person kill another in order to provide them mercy and save the lives of the collective, no time to think, only time to act.
You have a show that has acting far beyond the scope of any zombie tv show I've ever seen (including the walking dead and game of thrones (shut up it counts)), which enables these actors to convey ultimate and gargantuan emotions that are rarely ever even thought about.
You have a show where you see people experience horror nonstop but they KNOW that they cannot even grieve watching their partner of 15+ years being shot dead because if they do grieve, if they blink or pause for a second, they'll die.
You have a show that authentically and truthfully portrays the power of human survival, and how action and instinct will take over, and, as a side note, how bloody difficult it would be to take out just a couple ravenous, contagious, adult-sized zombies with nothing but a frying pan and your whit.
This show is deep on SO many levels, and it's something I can't wait to share with everyone I know who enjoys this genre, as this show has raised the bar for zombies in film so high and I can't wait to see what future this show holds.
My hat's off to any and everybody involved in the creation of this show. You guys did a splendid job and the average rating currently here on IMDB does NOT accurately represent the accomplishment that is this tv show.
Ten stars.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)
People who didn't understand the plot were likely drunk or texting on their phones the entire time
The plot was unbelievably conspicuous, and I am so thankful they didn't shove every single thing in the story into one movie. This movie is clearly an episode in the saga meant to differentiate who is on whose side, what those sides are, and the morality of choosing one or the other. It created a beautifully stunning pedestal on which the next movie will hopefully be able to shine upon.
Don't let the poor reviews fool you, this is an excellent movie and definitely a watch. I have only seen the extended version.
