Shadow in the Cloud (2020)
Don't waste your time with this piece of dribble
This just shows how poor the writing is in todays movies. This movie has no idea what the 1940s were like or how the language was different than today and uses modern filthy language to pass for edgy lingo of fighting troops. While the production values are fine, nothing can stop the story for being lazy. Lazy writing and lazy acting can't improve upon this tripe. It had to be a very desperate pay day for these actors to participate in this waste of ones and zeroes as I doubt it was filmed. The only highlight is the B17 which is beautifully preserved and I spent most of the time looking at it.
Death on the Nile (2022)
From the first five minutes...
There is nothing to like about this movie. The war scene was fine, but the bar scene was made to make you dislike as many people as possible, simply maddening how poorly written this is. I just don't understand why producers thing that gratuitous sex, booze, drugs, language, whatever you can call "over the top" is the first thing they go to in order to hook an audience. Unfortunately, it's lazy, and unskilled, and turned this production which had good values, into a parody of silliness instead of sophistication. Sad, but true, the older mysteries are so much better in every single way. Watch those, this is a waste of time.
Old Henry (2021)
Best western since Unforgiven
Not much more can be said. Not a minute is wasted as it propels you to the climactic ending which is among the best ever filmed. Perfect writing and directing of a story that is perfectly acted at every level.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
I have never seen a series with such an unattractive cast.
I like the fact that there are normal looking people in the series but the mish mash of races would not appear as it does in this series- they would have all produce children that blended the various races together so having red hair, black hair, all races together but no children that appear mixed- it's just woke trying to be edgy and ends up unrealistic- it would have been better to be tribes of separate races that worked together- the pacing is slow and it's just not as interesting as it could have been- a LOTR wannabe it comes far short of that.
Darkest Hour (2017)
Magnificent
Magnificent- nothing less than amazing. Old man is brilliant and it's 1940 and fighting in France is only equaled by the fighting in the War Cabinet. Viewers will be amazed at how paper thin England's hopes were in that month when a subway ride revealed her steel resolve and fighting spirit. Don't miss this slice of history and trip in time.
Red Notice (2021)
Pure fun
Takes cues from all of our favorite movies and makes fun along the way- Nazis, and Egyptian Treasures, and Chase scenes... Oh my! Sit back and enjoy the ride just be entertained -
Go! (2020)
Nice homage to earlier times
This movie draws on timeless themes that are also in other movies - Karate Kid is one and they admit it but it is a fresh take and deserves a fresh look- it's a really good film with superb acting and a perfect family film.
War of the Worlds (2019)
It's a good show
It's European so it's more than explosions and breasts that is the reason so many have voted it down. I have really enjoyed it - take that for what it's worth-
Godless: Homecoming (2017)
The most amazing western since Unforgiven
The ending was sublime like the rest of the story- you'll not find better writing and acting - this is perfection.
The Liberator (2020)
Fantastic - need more movies like this
The story is wonderful and animation is superb. It is stylized so the lines and blotches become part of the story after a few minutes- the characters are believable and it's heartbreaking- what happens to Easy Company is tragic but that's the point- war is hell and the Liberator does a wonderful job in an artful manner- I'll be rewatching this many times- 10/10
Turn: Washington's Spies (2017)
Best series I have ever seen. Bravo!
While not historically perfect- the production is so well done that you feel like you were there and the stress and drama carries through the entire series. Every episode has a twist as spy movies should have and the last five minutes of this last episode had me break down in tears. if only there were more to tell! Bravo Bravo Bravo!
Longmire: High Noon (2015)
My first review ever on IMDB
This show is what you dream of when you want escapist entertainment. In all my 56 years of watching television I am hard pressed to find anything that compares to this series. Every single actor with a speaking role delivers the performance of their career. It is as if they've all stored it up for this show and none is overacted- it's all perfect and on cue. I don't know how you top a 9.6 rating but I sure am willing to see if they do. This is big screen quality every episode- I'm in love if you couldn't tell!
