Kus Uçusu (2022)
Plenty of plot holes, characters aren't consistent nontheless very enjoyable
This show has a lot of plot holes that could have been addressed relatively easily. It kind of takes away from the series but still...
Two outstanding performances are from Miray Daner (Asli) and Güliz (Sifanur Gül). In general actresses in the series are really good where the main male actors bore you to death with their soulless, anaemic approach to their roles. When Ibrahim Çelikkol (Kenan) and Burak Yamantürk (Selim) are in the same scene you just want the cringefest to end.
Other problems with the show is, characters behave inconsistently and no back story for Asli was presented of why she does what does which is very needed in that context.
Still, an enjoyable piece that excels at building up tension.
I would've rated this a 7 but to offset the needlessly low score I rated it a bit higher.
The Protector (2018)
Interesting and that's it
I'm Turkish (born and raised) to begin with and I'll try to be as unbiased as I could be. The show definitely has some moments. 3 of the lead roles are great at what they are doing. Hakan, Leyla and Faysal are outstanding in their roles, the rest of the lead roles are ok, not including Doktor (Kemal). Bad acting on his part really. Other roles are hit or miss but the show never loses the quality of being 'watchable'.
The dialogues in the first 2 episodes are flat-out bad, no other way to put it. When I checked what episode directed by which director, I found out that the first 3 episodes are by the same guy. Starting especially with the 4th episode dialogues sound much more fluid.
The story sounds promising but falls short. At least it did for me. There are way too many coincidences. The story tries to explain it by hinting that the Protector and Immortal attract each other. Not a dependable premise for me. It just doesn't add up. Also people easily keep getting bailed out of jail. In one instance one of the accomplices of the Order bail them, in some other Mazhar does that. At least hint who they know from inside but no. Also the heist in the museum came off too cheesy.
The finale is satisfying but not outstanding. Even with its shortcomings, Protector is a good show and the 2nd season may even come off as a much more complete show than the first one.
How It Ends (2018)
It does have an ending
I don't understand why everyone keeps saying here that this movie has no ending. Unlike most of the others here (tho the movie reviews were sorted according to their helpfulness, so maybe I saw all similar reviews after similar reviews), I think the movie actually has an ending. It is even made too obvious.
So since this is not a spoiler free review, I'm going to spill the beans right away. It was all a simulation, probably some of the characters being NPCs or maybe all of them were or maybe only the main character who is trying to deliver his damsel in distress is a real person in a simulation full of NPCs. So how do the writers and director impose that? What are the hints?
-Third persons in the movie are too shallow, we don't even get to know their names (the guy who has a wife and a baby who let Theo James in his truck) or they are generally too easy to persuade (think of Forest Whittaker getting past the soldiers by talking his way out) and some of the time we don't even see their faces properly which seemed like a deliberate move to me.
- The weird chat between Theo James and his wife's neighbor. First it was implied that it is a simulation which shouldn't normally cause any tensions out of nowhere. It is so out of place that you either their it is bad script or a deliberate move to pull the audience into the simulation theory.
So why am I rating the movie 4/10. Because unlike almost all other reviews I've read here, I think the movie made it too obvious that this is a simulation even by using the word 'simulation'. The neighbor in the last 10 mins of the movie was actually way too forthcoming about it. It could have been injected more slowly to the viewer.
