Sam Steele and the Junior Detective Agency (2009)
Kids loved it...but they can overlook brutal acting
Movie is fun for younger kids. Lots of adventure and mystery. Parents typically end up watching movies with the kids and this one stood out as one of the worst acting performances from most of the characters that we've ever seen. Luckily the kids see past this but I can't help but think the movie would have been so much better if they used real actors. Poor Luke Perry...how his star has diminished. It's almost funny to see him try and do an accent. I don't even think this would warrant being considered a made for TV flick as it's so low budget. Still can't believe we pay for this garbage acting but as long as the kids like it, can't complain too much. Would think kids over 10 would be interested though...a little to simple a story.
The Other Guys (2010)
Brutal
I was home sick a few months ago and ended up renting this through the on demand on cable. I'm a Will Ferrell fan but haven't been impressed with a lot of his movies lately where he's the main character but love him in Old School, etc. I like Mark Walberg but not as a lead actor in most cases. He seems to be better behind the scenes now. I figured I'd take a chance and try it out to pass some time but ended up turning it off near the end, uninterested in seeing anymore crap acting, horrible story lines, non- humor, etc. Very disappointing movie and not ever worth a rental on a rainy Sunday afternoon unless you want to use it to ignore and fall asleep with sound on in the background. I still don't know what the hell they were thinking making a crap movie like this. Another example of how Hollywood can put some A list actors in a movie and not worry about the script. Hopefully this will help people save 2 hrs and a few bucks and spend the time and money elsewhere.
Limitless (2011)
Surprised and impressed
Went to see this with a buddy of mine a few weeks ago and we were both very surprised at how well this movie was written, filmed and acted. Not a huge fan of Bradley Cooper but enjoyed him in Hangover but really didn't know what to expect as a leading man. Robert De Niro's character was good but could have been played by many other actors. De Niro's a legend and did a good job, but nothing special. The storyline was pretty cool and it kept you guessing throughout and didn't drag at all. Visually it was quite powerful and helped you get inside the world of Cooper's character. If there is still a chance to see it on the big screen I would recommend doing so or getting it on blu ray as soon as it comes out. Well worth the money.
