Corporate Affairs (2008)
Please stay away from this film
I am writing this as I am watching this halfway through. I really do not know if I find the power to finish this, but even If I do not no harm done. The film is flooded with clichés, beyond belief. The actors do not appear to believe a line they speak, the result is almost a parody. The movie is about a programmer being promoted to manager and not being able to cope with it. But the whole storyline is so fictional that none of the stuff it narrates would happen in real life of a programmer aspiring to become a manager. And yes, I am a professional programmer. Its a real shame because some actors are decent in other films they have appeared.
PS. My girlfriend just ejected the DVD before seeing the end. No harm done whatsoever.
The Creeping Flesh (1973)
Classic Horror at its best? Hmm, not really...
This movie had the necessary ingredients so as to achieve Horror Classic: superb cast, the right semi-Gothic scenery and a script with a nice twist in the end. But there is definitely something missing here. Is it the direction, the slow story telling, or the lack of a solid villain icon, you name it. The effects are also a bit gruesome, even for 1973. Especially the final incarnation of evil is really disappointing, I expected so much more given the tension build around it. But despite its flaws, it is enjoyable to watch and it has its moments. Best part by far is the rivalry between Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, which is once again top notch. So don't go running to your local DVD rental and ask for a copy, but if you ever come across it give it a try. It doesn't heart a bit
Oi aparadektoi (1991)
the best Greek TV series ever
From the age of 11 up until now, almost twenty years later, "aparadektoi" never lost their appeal on me. I kept watching and watching the endless re-runs, laughing at the same unmatched jokes and feeling the same kid I was back then when I first watched the show. And this is the true meaning of this series: four grown ups interacting like children while making supreme adult humor. A small masterpiece that made every actor in the series an instant pop icon in Greek show biz, especially Giannis Bezos, the most controversial and yet memorable homo sexual figure of Greek TV. But apart from Giannis, everybody added a bigger or smaller fragment in this delirious, sometimes hysterical and all times surreal TV series. The plot was insignificant, as the gags come one after another at breathtaking speed. A definite must see, give it one more try it if you get the chance.
The Gorgon (1964)
A horror movie that delivers more than Goth scenery
Do not expect to get any short of chiller from this one. More than 40 years old, this outdated movie is worth seeing for its superb British cast, the mystical, foggy atmosphere and its unusual choice of evil figure: Megera, a creature from Greek mythology. The story has its holes (how did Megera reached Britain's countryside is beyond me) but the duration is considerably tight (less than 90 minutes) and the characters are well outlined. Another thing I liked is the use of so many scientists, given that almost every character in this movie is some sort of doctor! But when science fails comes the Gorgon to bring mayhem in her past
and trust me she does. I have not decided whether the main point in this movie is how we sometimes try to keep a secret at all costs or how we ultimately fail to rationalize the environment that surrounds us. On any event, close up the lights, grap some popcorn and give this movie a try...
