Powerful

Chiwetel gave a stirring, empathetic portrayal of Pearson. I never knew that Pearson was so closely connected to Oral Roberts or that he used to be the pastor of a mega church. Whether you agree with Pastor Pearson or not, you will love this movie of moral conviction and spiritual growth. Being a Christian doesn't require adherence to so-called orthodoxy. You are allowed to question and challenge long held doctrines such as eternal torture in hell (which in my view isn't Biblical).

Loved the Second Season
11 June 2021
I watched the second season first and absolutely loved it. If you're looking for a fast paced, fun, creative cooking competition, this is the show for you. Thoroughly enjoyed watching various families vie for the first place win. Although I didn't agree with the outcome, it was fascinating watching the families cook up exotic and delicious looking food, many of which I was seeing for the first time.

The first season was unwatchable for me and I stopped after the first 20 minutes.

The Promised Land (2016– )

Somewhat entertaining
27 March 2021
Although somewhat entertaining, this series doesn't follow the story found in the Biblical book of Joshua. But if you want a good way to pass time, it's okay and at times even uplifting. There's a lot of sex talk so I'm not sure that this is a family series.

Inspirational

Excellent movie. I have an idea why it has been rated so low. Given how Black movies are rated on IMDB, I can guess why. Ignore the low ratings and go and see this gem. It is an inspirational movie about a genuine hero. The audience I watched it with, clapped several times and applauded at the ending. It's definitely a movie I'll watch over and over again.

A+. Two thumbs way up.

Excellent Sci-fi Thriller
16 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I have no idea why this movie isn't rated higher but it is a great sci-fi thriller. Fast paced, great story, excellent acting and easy to follow. Glenn Close was great as the villain who makes believe that she is doing good for the environment and almost fools us in the process. Noomi Rapace deserves an Oscar for her performance as seven sisters who must pretend to be each other whenever they leave their home. Even Willem Dafoe's small part is well acted and heartfelt.

Ignore the bad ratings and watch it yourself. You just may love it as much as I do.

Inaccurate
20 February 2017
At the end of the movie, the claim was made that in 1920 women gained the right to vote in the United States. This is inaccurate. Only White women gained this right. Black women didn't get the right to vote until the 1960s. This fact should have been clarified.

The film itself was okay. Not sure how accurate it was which is what you can expect with most "based on true events" movies.

The Omega Man (1971)

Loved It
1 April 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Finally got around to watching Soylent Green and Omega Man back to back. Enjoyed both films immensely.

For Omega Man, loved the feeling of loneliness which pervaded the beginning of the movie when it looked like Neville was the only survivor of a worldwide epidemic.

Loved the concept of "The Family" -- a group of zombie-like beings brainwashed by a charismatic leader.

Loved the romance between Neville and Lisa. Loved that Rosalind Cash played a role as a Black woman which was not stereotypical.

Loved the ending where a small group of survivors run for the hills and start a brand new world (or so I hope).

Loved the fact that this movie was not gory. Not really sure if it can be called a horror movie. Reminded me of 28 Days Later, which has a similar theme of a few survivors fighting against hordes of infected beings.

The ending was good, although I would have liked to see Neville survive and somehow kill "The Family", but I guess this wasn't supposed to be a feel good movie.

If you're a Heston fan, you'll enjoy his 70s films (Planet of the Apes, Soylent Green and this one). If I Am Legend is a remake of this film, I have to say that I enjoyed Omega Man more. Seemed more entertaining.
