Brilliant, subtle and extremely effective
26 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Barmaid, Laura (Camilla Metelmann) has not had a good day. After an upsetting phone call from her alcoholic mother, a long and tiring evening at work is rounded off by a late night troublemaker. Having missed the last bus home and and feeling both spooked and understandably paranoid, she climbs into a taxi. She doesn't know it yet but her evening is about to get worse. A lot worse.

The nameless taxi driver (Kim Sønderholm) into whose cab Laura has stepped has his own plans for the evening and, although it takes a while for her to realize this, Laura is in a great deal of trouble.

For a large part of its running time, Bleed With Me takes place entirely within the taxi and writer/director Emil Ishii uses this confined space to put us through what may well be the most tense and gripping taxi ride screened to date. The film draws you right to the edge of your seat as Laura slowly realizes that her driver is more than just a bit quiet, and then it becomes genuinely nail-biting as it slowly reveals just how badly events are going to turn.

That things are going to turn very bad indeed is quite clear pretty much from the moment that Laura steps into the cab. The fact that you know this, without knowing exactly where the plot is going to go, is what makes the film is so effective. The tension starts building relentlessly as soon as Laura climbs into the cab and keeps on building, with no let-up whatsoever, as the film progresses.

There is a lot more to this film, though, than just two people in a taxi and when the film reaches this point, it manages to very efficiently convey the taxi driver's back story. This approach tells us everything we need to know about the character, making him both believable and sinister, without sacrificing an ounce of tension.

Bleed With Me is a taut, claustrophobic thriller that grips you from the outset and doesn't let go until the final credits roll. It's a very brutal film that manages to achieve this sense of brutality without being particularly gory. Indeed, the sense of brutality is achieved largely because of the absence of excessive gore.

Rather than relying on blood and guts, the film achieves its impact through a combination of very tight plotting, grimly atmospheric and outstanding performances on the part of both of the lead actors.

Both of the two lead characters are very well drawn and superbly brought to life by Metelmann and Sønderholm who both deliver shockingly powerful and utterly believable performances that really do keep you on the edge of your seat.

Bleed With Me is one of the most frighteningly effective thrillers I have seen in a long time. Although not particularly long, the film has no padding and allows you absolutely no relief as it builds an atmosphere that is both tense and unnerving. It's a psychological thriller that exploits the fear of getting into the wrong taxi to tremendous effect and one that will stay with you for a long time after it's finished.

This is a stretched middle finger for the true fans! 1/10!
13 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This remake or RIP OFF as it is, is a big F-U to the true fans!!! Well I had the displeasure of watching it last night at a pre screening and i was very disappointed. this is not a Jason film. Jason is not in it. sure there is a guy who eventually finds a hockey mask and kills a few people, but it could be anyone - in my world i refuse to acknowledge this as a friday13 film. it is so flawed and has no respect for the original series. nothing is respected.

sure and people say "it's a re-imagining". no it isn't this is a typical average horror film anno 2008 where they have just placed a killer with a hockey mask named Jason to sell tickets..

i'm extremely dissatisfied with this.... Sean s. Cunningham was the producer and he must be lacking money cause how the h**k could he approve this piece of ..... i don't know

Jason does NOT run, Jason does NOT take prisoners, Jason does NOT move as an ordinary human being, Jason does not not not... so many things, one would think the people behind this never saw the original films. but again, sure, why bother, they just have to get money out of our pockets, right?

Very interesting indeed
1 May 2008
Warning: Spoilers
***CONTAINS POSSIBLE SPOILERS!*** It was by pure coincidence (and because I heard about it through various indie channels and (and because I knew Pepsi hottie Mandy Amano was in it) that I stumbled across this release, and having now seen it I feel I must say that it is very underrated.

All nine stories have their own charm, obviously some more than others, but they all managed to appeal to me some how. The ones that stood out though was "Delusion" starring Jonathon Trent which managed greatly to convey the feeling of an old Hitchcockian thriller from the 50ies. "Disconnected" brought on explicit torture which I found a tad hard to watch because of it's relentlessness but it was a welcome addition regardless. "Mental Distortion" quite interestingly was a thriller building up to a twist you wouldn't guess - or, the ending at least leaves you thinking cause it could have actually have two different endings and it's all up to you. "When John Met Julia" was more a classic revenge story, except it was delightful for a change to see a female (and bloody gorgeous too) killer instead of a male killer and you'd first expect from how the film is building up.

9/10 - maybe 8/10...8.5 I think...

Even worse than the first one!
20 June 2006
It's a puzzle to me how this turd of a film ever got distribution.

Sure, it's horror and there's a fair share of nudity, but by god, the production value is the lowest I've ever seen, the equipment used is worse than standard home equipment, everything is overlit, giving everything an amateurish look, bringing your thought to America's worst home-video's or whatever that show was called..

Please people, is it too much to ask that you actually do an effort when you expect to waste 90 minutes of peoples lifes watching this? You really should have done some short projects first cause it's obvious you're a bunch of amateurs! 1/10

Veninder (2005)

Lived up to its reputation
5 April 2006
When people keep telling me how lousy a film is, I usually have the tendency to wind up renting it to see if everything can really be THAT bad, cause come on, any film must have SOME redeeming qualities, right?

WRONG!

"Veninder" is probably the most embarrassing movie ever, the acting is beyond belief that this is actually professional actors acting (although I now have my doubts!), and the script is absolutely the worst in the history of time. Right now I just wanna bang my head against a wall for not believing those who watched it before me, to think I actually wasted time and money on this - I can hear the producers laughing at me on their way to the bank!!

4 actresses all battling out for this years razzie if there was one such in Denmark, but in the end Anne Grethe Bjarup Riis ends up taking the prize....my god.....Anneli Berg closely following....Susanne Storm was mildly annoying, while Brüel was just....you know....there.....

This is supposed to be a film for women, and some will probably tell me I just don't get it....WRONG! I've asked around the women I know who've seen it and they all took offense from this film, so it's not just me. 9 women I know actually felt offended on behalf of womanhood after seeing this film...

I give this a 1/10 cause it truly deserves nothing more! Hard words, yes, but if you don't believe me, watch it ....although I wouldn't recommend it if you wanna keep your lunch in your stomachs!

This is why I'm never having kids!
21 February 2006
I really try to find something redeeming to say about this film, but I fall short...

Those kids are obnoxious, horrific acting as well, they look like total amateurs, especially the girl - and by the end you wish they were beat to a pulp. They are the very reason why I'm never having kids, and having seen this film only assures me that is the right thing for me to do - or rather, don't..

Ice Cube does alright, he is what kept me watching, cause I swear I was about to turn off several times. The kids are too much, and the mother is TOO sweet - or rather TOO stupid. What? She doesn't know she gave birth to hell spawn? This film should be deleted off the face of the earth. Don't watch!

Expected a lot worse!
12 November 2005
I must say I expected a lot worse, given all the very indecent films being made inspired by computer games, and especially this one, cause it is a game I played to death - pardon the pun - 10 years ago.

I was entertained, and I didn't crumble my toes as much as I usually do.

I usually dislike The Rock, cause I usually see him as a boneheaded wrestler with no acting potential what-so-ever, but in this film I must say he works out fantastically. Granted, it doesn't take a DeNiro to play the part, but he does it well and very convincingly. Cudos for that, I am even thinking about checking some of his new films out as well not.

Of course, I have to find something that annoyed me, and it was called "Rosamund Pike"....my god, how can an actress this boring and express less ever get a part in a film? I grabbed myself several times wondering this question. He seriously stinks.

But - to be honest, I think she was the only downer in this film. I didn't expect Oscar material and obviously that's not what I got either, but I got a lot of action and enjoyed all of it, especially the game-inspired shoot'em down/up scene, quite awesome carried out.

Cudos to everything...apart from Rosamund Pike 7/10

Pusher III (2005)
1/10
It sunk to low
6 September 2005
It's common knowledge than when sequels and the likes are made, they never quite live up to the originals reputation, and in the case of the Pusher trilogy, this proves truer than ever. The first one was a massive shock, reached cult status and still bears ground.

Part two and three however gets worse by the second. The director Nicolas Winding Refn must be laughed his socks off at the people who spend money watching this drivel - he even openly told the public from the start that these two movies were only made to earn him the money he lost in his American project "Fear X", but it shows so clearly, cause there two films are not thought through at all..

Worst however is the case with part 3, it is so obvious that the director was looking for something this film would be remembered by, and what it is, is some very explicit scenes of a dead body getting halal butchered and then put into a garbage disposal. Going from a good realistic drama (part 1) to a poorly made splatter film (part 3) is not the right way to go.

So many people claim this film is true to nature, but obviously they never experienced the drugs environment in Nørrebro. This is exaggerated and openly tributes extreme violence - it is no wonder the youth of today is getting so mixed up with people like Refn cheering them up, putting more and more fire on the stake.

Shame on you, Refn...and please stop here, don't make part 4 as you've already threatened to do 1/10 - only cause a "0" wouldn't change anything...

A disaster in its own rights...
1 September 2005
I don't know what to think - I found this film which was obviously only made in order to score some cheap bucks on behalf of the big media storm concerning Steven Spielberg's version...it's interesting to see how Tom Cruise and C. Thomas Howell who worked together in "The Outsiders" where Howell played the lead the Cruise only a minor part, how they swappers careers and now it's opposite. The Cruise/Spielberg version has a huge budget, looks terrific but it in itself a giant plot hole.

This version - The one I refer to as the "fake" version starring C. Thomas Howell is a disaster of its own. Obviously it didn't even have a hundred part of the budget the Spielberg version did, but that still does not explain the incredibly unmotivated acting - it makes an otherwise decent actor like Howell look it's it's amateur night at the local theater.

I say, have respect for Wells' work - stay away completely. Nothing good can come of watching this.

Sorry to be so harsh, but honestly, the things producers spill out just for the sheer purpose of making a buck makes me sad..

3/10 - and that 3 is closer to a 2 than 3 to be honest..

So mediocre...
20 August 2005
To be honest, I'm very disappointed..

I mean, the film is well made, when it comes to the special effects, everything looks overwhelming. The acting is brilliant, I think Tom Cruise is better than the last many years. Dakota Fanning is definitely going places, she has a huge talent - although I several times got the urge to strangle her because of all the mindless screaming...but then again, given the situation, how would one self react?

What disturbs me are the GIANT plot holes....without wanting to spoil anything, I can say that they are embarrassingly obvious.....you definitely don't even need to be a movie-buff to spot them, even my girlfriend who usually swallows all sorts of film excitement raw shook her head in awe....

Spielberg, what were you thinking?

This is a solid 5/10, the plot holes drags it down from what could have been 8 or 9, if Spielberg would have had any respect left for his audience...

Quite entertaining
20 August 2005
Well, I gotta admit I expected less than nothing from this seemingly brain-dead below-the-belt comedy, but I gotta admit I was wrong.

I was actually entertained..

Both Kumar and Harold are quite funny, they fit each other perfectly, a bit like Dumb & Dumber but in their own style - and admittingly a great deal brighter..

I recommend this film if you want to relax with a couple of cheap laughs - mind you, that's not meant in a negative way - and just need to relax your brain..

I feel off my chair laughing when they get back home to the guy who picks them up hitchhiking and they meet his girlfriend

So very claustrophobic!
7 August 2005
Man, it is so rare I am affected by a movie I see, but this one truly gave me the chills. It gave me an all-around feeling of total and utter claustrophobia and that was even before the main plot of the films takes over.

A bunch of female friends challenge themselves to descent into a mountain, very deep and narrow. They crawl through narrow holes they can barely fit into, holes so narrow the only way if forward, there is no turning back......but that is only the "fun" beginning, deeper without the mountain they stumble across something much, much worse.

I'm much into horror films but I'm also very critical...this one however kept me in total suspense...I'll give it a 9 of out 10...easy as that!

Giamatti is greatly underrated!
14 May 2005
This film was recommended to me by a work colleague and it took me a while to get around to see it, but when I finally did I wondered why.

Paul Giamatti who is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors is also brilliant in this film, playing the comic inventor of the comic magazine "American Splendor".....sure it's a little odd mixture of fiction and documentary, especially with the original inventor commenting along the way, but it's not as annoying as it may sound - not at all, it adds a lot to the film. I recommend this film if you like Paul Giamatti or if you like comics...if you like both, you should Definitely see it! :-) 8/10

Bruno Ganz is my god!
14 May 2005
Oh my god, this movie is easily one of the three best I've ever seen. It is a true masterpiece. Very hard to watch, especially when you know all of it happened in reality. Deciding to base the film just as much on the experiences of Adolf Hitler's secretary and the things she witnessed is brilliant.

And Bruno Ganz - my god, if this performance of his is not worth an Oscar, the Hollywood incarnates truly show what lousy stuff they're made of. This film could never have been made anywhere but Germany, making it into an English speaking film would be a disaster (but of course, with their tendency to remake anything over there I wouldn't be surprised! ha ha)..

Go and see this film, sure it's a hard thing to watch, but it's an experience for life! 10/10 - no question in my mind!

Expected a lot more!
14 May 2005
I must admit, I expected a LOT more from this film. It seems Anders Thomas Jensen has now made the same movie three times. Sure the theme vary but somehow they all just look the same.

The same cast always, all the actors playing the usual roles they always play. Even Mads Mikkelsen repeats his role from Anders Thomas Jensens last film "The Green Butchers", actually repeating the same lines and acting out the same character - only now with a beard. I truly think these people should try harder if they wanna remain in the business. I however take off my hat for Ulrich Thomsen who makes this movie a 6 instead of a 5 or 4 as intended, THIS guy is great, and he is not one of those who keeps repeating himself.

Sure there are fun moments, and a lot of them, I laughed admittingly, but the jokes falls flat as soon as you realize that handicapped and mentally retarded children are actually not very funny stuff. Especially when the crude jokes are only these to cover up the fact that the storyline is lacking in consistence.

Anders Thomas Jensen, renew yourself - You've won an Oscar for your short film and that's amazing. Good work, but if you keep repeating yourself you're sure never to get another.

6/10 - and that's because of Ulrich Thomsen saving the day!

Quite entertaining
14 May 2005
I watched this recently having had it recommended by several friends and people I work with. I was uplifted in a strange way, cause it was very entertaining.

The film in itself contains on 8 or 9 short films with people just talking, and while that may sound kind of boring, it actually is far from just that. Some bits are clearly better than others, but my favorite is especially Iggy Pop talking to Tom Waits - THAT is so funny seeing these two legendary musicians not really being able to communicate and misunderstand each other all the time.

Other bits vary, some are directly boring, others are quite amusing as well and even though this is about 90 minutes of pure talk person to person about the topic - coffee and cigarettes - I recommend it. It's quite amusing, but probably not for the kids, cause they will find it boring.

Very interesting and nicely low-key
14 May 2005
I hadn't heard of this film before sitting down to watch but it was a good bargain.

It is a good example of how you don't need billions and billions of dollars to make a movie if only you bother to have a good story.

It is quite simple, but it never loses it's originality and tension.

The actors are both very good and both hold up their end in the film. Especially James Marsden surprised me a great deal, very positive thing there

I definitely recommend this little nice bit, and it's one of the few I've decided to go out and buy on DVD when I can find it.

Positive and negative booms..
18 February 2005
Well, having heard about this film in the past few months I just rented it from the local video rental store and I must say that I'm very torn, as to what I feel about this film. There are very positive sides to it, but unfortunately also some negative sides.

Let me start off with the negativity first, to get it out of the way.

This film is a clear example of a new directors debut feature, a lot of technical mistakes is made. Calling the director a debuting director may sound strange to some, but he produced adult films for 17 years before he decided to quit the business and produce serious films instead. It is painfully clear that he have underestimated the art of film making, you'll see what I mean when/if you see this film - I truly think he should have spend more time in the pre-production faze and thought it out more. I sincerely hope he learned a lot of things from this production, considering the fact that he is - according to IMDb - planning more futury films. (I'm quite positive about those films though, this film still showed a lot of potential!!!)

NOW - the positive sides; There is a very touching story behind it all. Muhammed is a second generation immigrant living in the ghetto of Vollsmose (one of the most feared ghettos in the entire Denmark, and the film is also shot here!). He wants to get out of the criminal environment in which he has been living and it works just fine for him, he's got a job and is really on the right path. His best friend, Johnny, however, who is a white male, has a tendency to mess it all up for both himself and his friends - Muhammed included. Even though a social worker named Pedersen does his best to help Johnny, whose girlfriend Sussi is pregnant, he keeps messing up and dragging Muhammed down with him, so Muhammed has to take a stand once and for all.

It is a very nice story, happily free of stereotypes and ugly clichés. Every actor in the film - both the professional ones and the "real" ones from the Vollsmose-area - does a beautiful job (apart from overacting by Gry Bay). The only negative thing here is that I think the director should have done a more solid job of introducing the characters into the story.

Amar El-Khatib who plays Muhammed is very convincing and it's hard to believe he never received any acting training prior to this film. He lives in Vollsmose and the story is in many ways about himself. The film even contains some quite disturbing video footage of him as a child, but it would spoil too much revealing more about it here.

I truly advice people to see this film, but you have to be able to live with some technical problems during the film - it is however worth it, if you can manage not to focus too much on the problems but turn your focus to the story!

Den eneste ene 2 (2002 TV Short)
Amusingly weird..
4 December 2004
A strange, STRANGE, little film going backwards - but it's not the film just set to run backwards, no, all actors in this film ACTS the story backwards and it's incredibly well done...

Considering the very different way of working, the film contains very solid performances - of course suffering from a few mishaps, mostly technically, but the piece of work in mind, I think it's a very well done job indeed..

Jønne is a party dude, looking for a girl to score with.....it's a very simple story indeed, and it's wouldn't be interesting at all had it been run in the "real" order, but turning it all backwards makes for a very entertaining, but strange little film..

A funny little idea, watch it if you can find it..

Sweet!
4 December 2004
Just saw this little short piece made a few years ago, and was positively surprised..

It's a sweet little story, well acted, well written, about Jacob who suddenly gets a visit from his ex-girlfriend Caroline, close to Christmas, cause her new boyfriend has been cheating on her. Jacob is still in love and eager to get her back.

I was pleasantly surprised by the acting, Martin Ammitsbøl and Katrine Falkenberg both deliver nice and believable characters, and they make me believe in the story. But I must especially point out actor Mads Koudal who plays Jacob's geeky sidekick - he's just a supporting character, but he managed to steal the picture in every scene he is in, it's simply one of the funniest piece of acting I've seen in a long time - a very versatile actor indeed, but that actually goes for all three of them.

The film unfortunately suffer from a few technical misfires, so that takes a point off my rating, but it's still a nice 7/10, so I think that's pretty good.....watch this little bit of film if you can find it..

It's a little Christmas feel-good film..

The Image (1969)
Weird, interesting..
13 October 2004
Just saw this little 13 minutes thing, well, better late than never, huh? It's 37 years old, but so far I only heard rumours and word of mouth about it, but never managed to find it anywhere else..

The plot is, an artist is making a picture and suddenly the picture (David Bowie at around the age of 20) comes to life and the artist stabs it repeatedly with a knife, but the picture refuse to die.

There can be put a lot of different understandings behind this piece of work, but personally it reminded me of the Andalusian Dog, don't ask why cause I cannot tell, it doesn't contain the same vivid images and insane cinematography, but there is something I cannot quite put my finger on, and this is why I won't rate this film - I don't know if I like it or hate it, but it definitely stirred something inside me.

Not as bad as people say..
23 September 2004
..well, it's hard to sit down with a good feel watching a film, when all the criticism you've heard has been hammering it to the ground..

I think this film is not at all as bad as many say it is, sure it has it's flaws and mishaps, but it's an action flick, it's made to entertain and it does does.....

However - talking about a failure in the cast, check out Sienna Guillory who plays Jill Valentine - she ruined the entire film for me, I thought her so called "acting" was the worst I've seen in a long time; stumbles across her lines, absolutely no believability (and notice how I say "lines" cause she more or less reads them), and...wow, I know Hollywood has gone downhill, but using this poor excuse for an actress really does it for me...I truly hope I'll never see her in another film!

Anyway, the third part is in it's way and let's hope that's it, they're already milking the franchise as it is..

El Mariachi (1992)
was that it?
21 September 2004
I finally got around to seeing this film, after all the hype, and I must say that it's hard for me to comprehend how this film could have kick started Rodriguez' career the way it is..

The budget of $7000 clearly shows, obviously there was no money to pay REAL actors, so they used amateurs and it really bites. The plot is awful, almost non existent - so many plot holes, it's annoying..

I can see Rodriguez has good fantasy regarding various angels and stuff, but too bad to so lacks just about anything else in this horrible flick..

2/10 - only cause of the ridiculously low budget

Westworld (1973)
Still very good!
19 September 2004
I saw this film the first time back in 1983, at the age of 10 and was very fascinated. I searched for it for a long time and finally TCM showed it last night - now, 21 years later, and I of course had to catch it... I must say I was amazed how I still very much liked the picture...

Incredible how a 1973, and means 31 year old, film actually looks quite good... I liked the plot, - I mean, of course, I love the Terminator flicks, and I'd be willing to bet more and just single dimes that James Cameron was more than just a little inspired from Westworld when he wrote The Terminator 11 years later....there are quite a lot of similarities, one can almost say that in many ways it is the same film, only Terminator goes on in a major city in daily life, while Westworld goes on in a holiday resort, but other than that, quite a lot of similarities....watch the film, if you can find it - it's very much worth it, and you'll easily see what I mean..

You could debate also that Westworld looks a lot like one of Michael Crichton's more recent successes, Jurassic Park, but here I don't quite agree. Sure, I see the resemblance, but then again I don't think it's THAT much..

For the sheer entertainment, and the fact that this film is actually 31 years old: 8/10
