Excellent
5 May 2003
I really enjoyed this film. I was in awe of Michelle Pfeiffer's singing and would like to find the music she sang, however, the soundtrack only has 2 songs performed by her. I was not aware of her musical abilities. A must see for Michelle Pfeiffer fans. Jeff and Beau Bridges were also excellent in this film.

Mixed Nuts (1994)
Hilarious
24 April 2003
I make it a point to rent this film every year around Christmas. I really enjoyed it. I think Rita Wilson is terrific. Of course, I love Steve Martin. The rest of the cast were remarkable as well. The story is great and I especially can relate, because I also work in the helping professions...what a hoot!

Con Air (1997)
Non-stop Action
20 April 2003
I am more of a comedy film buff, but I have come to enjoy action films. This film never lost my interest and I thought the acting was excellent. John Malkovich's character, though sinister, was almost likeable at times. There were comedic moments in this movie. I liked John Cusack's character and how committed he was to getting that plane on the ground and seeing that Poe remain alive. I also liked Nicholas Cage's character and his committment to protecting the woman on board and getting insulin for the other convict. I do feel that Nicholas Cage's southern accent was weak. I feel he should have either spoken without it or worked with another dialect coach. However, there were enough strong points in the film to outweigh the weak accent...I just sort of forgot about it and became engrossed in the story.

A little cheesey

It was interesting to see the transformation from ugly duckling to swan in the princess. A great makeover! Parts of this movie were uninteresting, but for the most part it was cute. I liked the relationship that was established between the chauffer and the princess...that had substance. I would grade this movie a C+.

Slow to start
19 April 2003
This movie seemed to have a slow start or maybe it was just that I had to get used to the humor. It ended up being pretty funny in a corny sort of way. I especially enjoyed the dance numbers. Kirstie Alley was hilarious in the end when she showed her true character. The last few scenes where she was determined to get revenge were her best throughout the movie, in my opinion. I liked the music also. Altogether, it was an enjoyable flick.

Something Lacking
19 April 2003
All the actors seemed to be their character except for the leading lady and leading man. These 2 did not seem to be 100% their characters at all times. There was a superficial element about them; somehow they weren't quite believable. Perhaps it was their chemistry which seemed to be lacking. I liked "Rob" the best. Jennifer Aniston was pretty good too...her accents were impressive. All in all, not a bad flick. The ending was very sweet.

The Grifters (1990)
The things one does for money...unimagineable
19 April 2003
An interesting film. It depicts a lifestyle I have never been aware of. The sexual tension between John Cusack and Angelica Houston was amazing. The ending is indeed surprising and Houston does a good job of displaying her mixed emotions. The criminal element is cold and calculating. It shows you how one can be very detatched if need be for his or her own survival.

Over-rated
12 April 2003
Although I like Nicolas Cage, Holly Hunter, and John Goodman; this movie was not a favorite of mine. It must have been the story because they are all excellent actors. There was something weak about the plot. I cannot quite pin it down. I sat through it hoping it would improve and it did not. It was more ridiculous than funny. I did not find myself laughing much at all. The ending was the best part of the entire film. I would not recommend this movie to anyone nor would I watch it again.

Very Sweet
10 April 2003
I am a big John Cusack fan and I loved this movie. The chemistry between John Cusack and his leading lady was very good. I would not have even known this film existed if it had not been for imdb and the movie reviewer section. I am not sure why, but something about this movie brought me back to my high school/college days and I was able to relate to the characters although I was never in the exact situation they were in. I found myself feeling alot of compassion for John Cusack's character and really wanting him to win the affections of his leading lady. His character was very sweet and gullible in some ways and this made him instantly adorable to me.

Ok

In my opinion, this movie was just "ok". There was something about the acting that just wasn't right. I can't put my finger on it. Perhaps it was the roles that Midler and Lane played. They seemed very superficial. I wasn't convinced that they were the characters. I did like the actor from "Frasier". Although it was not a total "bomb", I would not watch this movie again.

Reality Bites (1994)
Great Chemistry!
7 April 2003
Ethan Hawke and Winona Ryder had excellent onscreen chemistry. I mostly rented this to see Renee Zellweger who had a very small part...I did not even manage to see where she was in this movie. However, the story definitely held my interest and it is one I will see again. The sexual tension between Hawke and Ryder was incredible.

Hysterical!

I also read the play. Streisand and Segal have great on-screen chemistry. This film will keep you laughing non-stop. Barbara Streisand's performance of the character being "neurotic" is excellent. George Segal's character is equally good in his response to her behavior. If you like this, it is one you may want to watch over and over again.
