Ti einai afto? (2007)
Beautiful small movie
I just cannot believe how this movie, only 5 min long, can cause such feelings when you watch it. It is so touching, and very beautiful. Music is also very well chosen, and makes this movie a real gold. Telling more about this movie would only be a spoiler, so I leave you to your imagination.
I would also recommend Small Pleasures (2008) by the same director (unfortunately this short is not on IMDb yet), that is as beautiful as this one. This one I recommend to all people. It's not long, so even if you don't like it (which I doubt), you will not lose much time.
9.5/10.
Some Folks Call It a Sling Blade (1994)
As sharp as a sling blade
I guess that if you are watching this, that means that you've already watched more known movie Sling Blade. Sling Blade is actually an extended version of this short, including the life of Karl after leaving a psychiatric institution. This short movie will leave you speechless. It's dark atmosphere, dark subject that it's dealing with, together with great performances from everyone, especially Billy Bob Thornton and Molly Ringwald, makes this an unforgettable experience. If you haven't seen Sling Blade yet, I suggest you to see it first, and then to see this movie.
Overall 9/10
Falling Down (1993)
Very, very, very good thriller
Well, I expected a lot from this movie, and I got a lot. This is a movie about a man (Michael Douglas) who once had a family and a job, but lost it (his wife divorced him, because of his bad temper). This is a movie that follows his attempts to spend a day with his family on his daughter's birthday. I must say that, Douglas did superb acting in this movie. Others were also outstanding, making this movie very convincing. Movie was very interesting, and surely will keep you tied to your sits until the end. Some scenes are very intense, making this a very good thriller. Atmosphere is very good, with well chosen ambient music, that completes the whole experience. If you liked this movie you will probably also like another movie from the same director "Phone Booth" or maybe "Metro"(1997). I recommend you to watch this movie, unless you are an anti-thriller fan. Overall 9/10
Don McKay (2009)
Promising, but ruined...
Well, I started watching this movie in high hopes, reading previous reviews. And, at first, I thought this is going to be great movie. But as the time passed away, I started to doubt. Everything was great to the half of the movie, and then all disappeared. Some of the scenes were too unconvincing. I simply got the feeling that something was missing there. There were some laughs, but for me, they didn't belong in this movie. I mean, if they are trying to make a suspenseful thriller, then make a thriller, don't try to make it funny by adding unnecessary jokes from time to time. This just ruins the atmosphere. And the revealing of truth at the end... I got the feeling that the actors were trying to explain the truth to me, not to Don (he had his arms in his pockets all the time, looking unconcerned). Acting was good, but only if you analyze it separated from the movie. Otherwise you will see that the actors were overreacting sometimes, and sometimes didn't put themselves into the movie enough. M. Emmet Walsh did a good job as a taxi driver (very convincing). Others were OK from time to time. Music is also the problem. Sometimes well chosen, but not always. The credits song, for example, makes you wander, what have you watched - romantic comedy or thriller.
I think that the biggest problem of this movie is that the makers tried to make this movie as a thriller with elements of comedy. I also think that it had great potential, but just need polishing.
