Renfield (2023)
I'm here for the camp!
I loved this movie and I don't understand the hate. This is a comedy horror and it pays homage to so much of the Dracula movies/stories. And the actors are all in, they give it their all. I laughed out loud multiple times in the theatre and left feeling satisfied. If you love vampire lore and you don't mind camp - it's a must see.
Apparently this review is too short and to the point so I will point out I'm not a huge Nick Cage fan because his characters are all very similar. However, this role is different and he had fun and you could tell. And I still need to type some more so here we go. Thank you!
Firestarter (2022)
Disappointing
The actors themselves did the best with what they had. But that's it. The story line was horrible, the choices they made to keep it different than the original didn't help. It's been over 30 years since I read the book and I'm one who things don't have to follow the book, as long as they make it good. But there were things in the story that just didn't make sense. The only positive with making it modern is the excuse for no cell phones/computers for the family. There were unnecessary choices and there were choices that should have been made that weren't. I'm still scratching my head about the ending. Just re-watch the original and fall in love with Drew all over again, don't waste your money on this one. (Yes, I grew up with the original and loved it's story line so much better than this one).
Fifty Shades of Grey (2015)
Why all the hate?
Okay - so I have not read the book and I'm not a movie critic. But this is the first time I've been largely disappointed in this review community.
Simply put, I liked the movie. I would have rather seen it in private because it was a bit uncomfortable sitting with a theatre full of people watching the level of intimacy that happened, but I'm also very aware that America can be very prudish when it comes to the taboo topic of sex.
It makes me wonder if all the hate is because we are not mature enough to deal with lifestyles outside the box. Take the movie for what it is. Entertainment. Titillating. Fun.
The Paw Project (2013)
One sided
I watched this documentary out of curiosity as to what they had to say about De-clawing but I already had an idea of which side the film was on. The documentary had an agenda of stopping de-clawing and focused on all the horrors, however not all procedures end in horror. I've had cats all my life (my family growing up and my own as an adult). All of our cats have been front de-clawed and none of them have had any problems. If you want to have a trusting documentary you need to fairly represent both sides of the story. I gave the film 5 stars because they represented the one side of things. Maybe someone will write the other side of things one day.
