Vexed (2010)
Promising but Fails to Deliver
The chemistry between the characters is lacking any genuineness. The patter just comes off as forced exchanges without you wanting more from them. I'd love to see Lucy Punch in something with staying power that showcases her potential.
The male character is less than one dimensional.
Whitechapel (2009)
Fine and entertaining.
I found this on Hulu and fell deeply interested in the series. I like that the actors portray normal people and high fashion models and pretty boys. Most of the British television series seem to be this way and why I enjoy them so much.
It's not impossible to figure out what is about to happen but at times it is difficult. The working relationships and characters all seem plausible and in most cases real. I hope that one day American television will be equal. I enjoy the Tom Selleck series Blue Bloods As well as the Jesse Stone films. They also have gritty characters . Perhaps Whitechapel will be renewed at some time in the future, until then we have Hulu.
Kadosh (1999)
The meaning of Kadosh means Separate
This film is a glimpse into the fictional life of two sisters in Mea Sharim, Jerusalem. In this area of Jerusalem the locals tend to be very strict in their religious practice and live there to avoid the secular Israel. Kadosh shows the sisters struggle with the expectations of their particular sect of Judaism, their families and their own desires for happiness.
Being a film there is only so much time in which weave the threads of the story with complex religious issues and local customs. Judiasm is not monolithic so there is not much point in picking apart how this or that is portrayed. Judaism is a wonderful Technicolor quilt across the various streams. Kadosh is not an indictment of Judaism. It is but a story of two sisters.
The pace is necessarily slow to let you drink in the complex situations. You need to give this film a chance. It is a good effort to portray the human condition.
