The Party Animal (1984)
this is no ordinary sex comedy
Most of 80's sex comedies are dumb, with many parts boring but this one is a true gem, i enjoyed it all the way, just the first minute of the movie with the beat of Why can't i touch it" i knew i had a special comedy for me , this movie is entertaining, very funny and i mean no dull moments. It is unquestionably one of the very best sex comedies of all time and i mean it.
Thunderball (1965)
A good but overestimated entry
That this James bond movie has the same rating than "The spy who loved me"is absurd and totally inappropriate. The spy who loved me is a masterpiece compare to this movie. What is wrong with this movie is that many of the water sequences are stretching to the point where it becomes boring and annoying several times, the movie looses its pace. I have seen many grade z movies that had better editing than this movie.
Treasure of the Amazon (1985)
One of the very best jungle/adventure movies
That this wonderfully photographed fully packed adventure movie has a 4.4 rating is another proof that you should never avoid to watch a movie because other people say it is bad, because most of the time, a lot of them do not realize beauty when they see it. If your eyes can enjoy wonderful cinematography first off, you won't be bored one second, The great outdoors, the beautiful jungle rivers and all its dangers, cannibals, search for treasures, all the wild animals, . It really feels like Indiana Jones.
Cannibal Holocaust (1980)
Ruggero Deodato should be ashame of himself
This movie is an hateful exploitation of atrocities of all kinds. The Illustration emphasizing on disgusting effects. Deodato martyred several poor animals in the jungle, and he should not have had the rights to make movies after that inhuman film.
Jaws: The Revenge (1987)
Definitely not one of the worst movies
The worst movies are inept in all artistic department. This movie is not one of them because of the interpretation first of all. all the actors in this movie offer a very honest performances, Like Lorraine Gary,Lance Guest,Karen Young, Mario Van Peebles. The relations between them is touching they care about each others and we care about them. The direction is solid because the acting would have been all over the place without a solid direction from a director. I have seen bad movies and believe me, this is not An inept movie like hobgobblins or Cannibal terror, it is not in their category. Of course the story is ridiculous, a shark chasing a woman to the caraibes and travels to the caraibes because the shark want revenge against all the brody 's. But there are a lot of movies that have ridiculous plot.
Le foto proibite di una signora per bene (1970)
A giallo with Mediocre plot
There is 3 good things about this giallo is that it tells it story without any scenes of violence. Dagmar Lassander is beautiful, she is convincing in her role and the cinematography is nice, but not great. The plot is weak however and there is no suspense, so it is painful to go through the whole movie.
Rosemary's Baby (1968)
horror element is too weak
I am giving this movie an 8 because as a movie it is extremely carefully constructed, the acting is superb, it has a very good atmosphere . Roman Polanski put a lot of care to create a good movie. But the problem is to call this movie a horror movie. There are horror elements but they are too weak, too few, The movie is submerged with too much realism for a witchcraft and horror standard, do not forget that this is a movie about witchcraft and the supernatural elements are too weak, the movie sounds more like a drama, too often. The suspenseful atmosphere becomes too weak at times to be called a horror movie.
The Running Man (1987)
A very unique Schwarzenegger movie
This is the most touching and meaningful love story movie from Arnold Schwarzenegger. Let me explain you why? Maria conchita alonso 's character brings something very rare in action movies. Her character is initially kidnapped by Arnold and she believes he is a murderer and releases herself from him by denouncing him to the police at the airport. But soon after, she realizes that he was innocent and he had not hurt anybody. . She feels guilty and by trying to prove his innocence she is arrested and sent to punishment with Arnold. But she had time to find the proof of his innocence just before being caught. Trapped with him, she then help him to free himself and prove his innocence. The last scene is a very beautiful scene when they find themselves at the sound of the song "Restless heart" and he kisses her and they go away together. When she look at him, we fully realize that, after denouncing him and being responsible for his wrongful sentence, she risked and lost her freedom for him and she came back to save him at the end.
Astérix et Cléopâtre (1968)
Unquestionably the best asterix movie and the best animation movie ever.
This is so unfair that this wonderful animation movie is not ranked higher than 7.2.. This is the most beautifully animated movie ever released. It is a musical, the funniest and most entertaining asterix movie but also it is a masterpiece. Every line is funny, the characters are singing, dancing, full of life , it is far better than "les 12 travaux of aterix" because this one is also a musical, the characters are extremely interesting and it never stops to amazed me. The plot, the story are extremely entertaining. it is easily the best asterix ever and people should start to realize it because we can not find a bigger classic for an animated movie that this. Every children in the world should watch this but the reason this movie is so magical and so unique is that it is as much entertaining for adult people of all ages than children. A wonderful adventure, full of melodies and of touching characters.
From Russia with Love (1963)
an overestimated James bond movie.
I am sorry but i do not watch a James Bond movie to keep my interest alive by mostly watching beautiful exotic locations and a beautiful cinematography. The DVD back cover description of the movie says it brings James Bond to face a spectacular boat chase, a violent attack by an helicopter and a mortal fight aboard a train. Well, all of this happens in the last 25 minutes of a 2 hour movie. James Bond spend 45 minutes of the movie hanging around with Pedro Armendáriz, shooting one bullet there , and mostly only talking. We do not see enough of James Bond alone showing his skills as a secret agent, he is not enough the central character in his mission and there is not enough adventures, not facing enough danger and it is too calm. It sometimes feels like a romantic and love story. Goldfinger is remarkably more entertaining than "From Russia with love". Importantly, Sean Connery doesn't have in this movie the humour, the one line punch that Roger Moore constantly had to lighten the mood.
At Close Range (1986)
A touching and sad love story.
The opening scene when we see Sean Penn looking for the first time at Mary stuart with the beautiful music playing slowly is one of the most beautiful scene i have seen in a movie. Mary Stuart shows so much innocence and pure beauty. The main idea is about a Young man who makes a very wrong turn in his life by becoming a thief because of the very bad influence of his criminal father. It will bring terrible consequences to his life. Mary stuart Masterson is extremely touching and her character is the pivotal point of the entire movie. And it shows, every time her face appears on the screen,we hear the beautiful main theme of the movie, music by Patrick leonard. It is above all, a tragic love story and what makes this movie so tragic is the character of Mary Stuart. Christopher walken gives a powerful performance as this evil man, he is very convincing and impressive. The music by Patrick leonard brings meanings and sadness to the scenes. Sean Penn is also very good.
Nothing in Common (1986)
A very touching and meaningful movie.
"Nothing in common" is truly a movie about relationships. It has so many interesting characters that are so important to each others. I have seen thousands of movies and the relation between the characters of Tom Hanks and Bess Armstrong is the most beautiful i have seen in a movie. Bess armstrong is so charming and beautiful, she brings sensibility and beauty to every scene she is in. We can see that she and tom loves each others but there are so many things that separate them. The beautiful song of Carly Simon "if it wasn't love" playing with images of the movie showing the people evolving with each others, and only by looking to their faces we see so many feelings of care and tenderness. It is a magic moment in the movie. Especially when Bess turns around and gives a touching look at Tom before going away with her bicycle, she tells him only with her eyes that he is letting her go.She is so expressive and touching in the expression of her love. It is also very touching to see the character of tom hanks, confronting but also caring for his father and his mother. This movie gives a very important message that we should talk to the people we love, tell them how we feel and tell them that we love them. And also, that we should create more happy and important moments with the people we love . It is a very underrated movie. It is very unfair that this movie has a 5.9 rating.
To Live and Die in L.A. (1985)
the most realistic police action movie ever made.
"To live and die in L.a. is an extremely effective action film that succeeds even more because the characters are more human beings than any of the Bruce willis or Mel Gibson action cop films. This movie is not about Bruce willis the hero killing all the bad guys, it is about a policeman who is a simple human being with his weaknesses. The action scenes are truly breathtaking, the music is one of the most beautiful soundtrack i have ever listen in a movie, it gives the images such intensity, the car chases are remarkably filmed, the most intense and spectacular i have ever seen in a movie. This is a fast paced, surprising but extremely plausible violence and the 3 lead actors are very convincing. This is a very underestimated movie that deserved so much more admiration. William L. petersen gives a very realistic and human performance.
Dressed to Kill (1980)
Brian De Palma's most effective and intense suspense film.
"Dressed to kill" is by far my favorite Brian De Palma movie because it has superior suspenseful scenes than Blow out or Carrie. The visual is very important in this movie, it really tells a story by the images. The faces of the characters , their movements. It has a much more effective mysterious and menacing atmosphere than blow out. The music of Pino Donnagio gives tremendous power and energy to the images, a beautiful, scary and inspired composition. There are many mysterious characters in the movie. Michael Caine is very good, Angie Dickinson is expressive and touching and Dennis Franz is very funny ("What kind of place is this, everybody 's getting late after lunch") and plays very well the inspector. This is the perfect late night horror movie. Brian De Palma did a very intelligent movie, the images are very intense, meaningful and he delivers the scares and tensions better than he has ever done.
Friday the 13th (1980)
A very suspenseful and atmospheric horror movie.
Friday the 13th is really a very good horror movie. It has an extremely good story about a mysterious place that is doomed with a very menacing presence that is unknown to us and that is why in that sense it is better than Halloween. I completely disagree when i hear people saying that "Friday the 13th part 2" is superior to its prequel. Because the most important aspect in a horror movie is the atmosphere created and the suspense. In the first movie, we are plunged in a mystery, an unknown menace is there but we do not know anything about it, we try to find out, it is mysterious, so more frightening because it is the unknown. They have created a place that is doomed and that generates a lot more tension and suspense. It is the major strength of the first movie. In Friday 2, we know everything, that it is jason from the start and we know why he is there and what he is going to do so it is a lot less effective suspense and tension that is created. The music of Harry Manfredini is a major force in Friday the 13th, it brings so much intensity and vigor to many scenes and the famous sound effect "KI KI KI MA MA Ma" brings so much more chills to the images. It is very original. The many more menacing situations because of the new story created not copied and the superior crystal lake blairstown locations are what makes Friday the 13th a unique and original film. Friday the 13th has often been cited has being a rip off to halloween, but that is so wrong because most importantly, this movie has come up with its own story, its own frightening and suspenseful atmosphere and its extremely unique and effective setting as Camp crystal lake and its surroundings. It is a true classic and deserves as much appreciation as halloween.
Jaws (1975)
The most essential movie for Steven Spielberg's career
When i think of the enormous impact that Jaws had for Spielberg, who was completely unknown before June 1975 and then became the hottest filmmaker on the planet, his fame and international career was launched so spectacularly not because of E.T. or Raiders but because of Jaws. Jaws is the ultimate suspense thriller, it is a magical movie because even it has enormous amounts of intensity it contains so much humour, The characters are more attaching than the ones in Raiders of the lost ark because they are more real everyday persons and they evolve with each others in a more touching way. The reason why Jaws is truly spielberg most entertaining film is that he really made the movie for us, he always wanted to make us laughed, or make us scare. He was extremely determined to create suspense.Instead of reminding us that Jaws was a nightmare to shoot, spielberg should rather remember all the advantages that Jaws brought to him as a filmmaker more than any other movies he has made.
The Burning (1981)
Far from being as good as the first Friday THE 13TH
The people who thinks this movie is better than the first "Friday the 13th" do not know how to distinguish a good horror movie from a bad. IN Friday the 13th, the killer is used as a menacing presence to create suspense, in the burning it is only used to show gore effects. The burning fails to deliver suspense and tension during the first 60 minutes. Instead of creating a suspenseful atmosphere at the camp, like in Friday the 13th for example, we only see in "the burning" the kids quibbling and joking at each other for the first 50 minutes . I found it very boring. The movie only counts on the special effects of Tom Savini. These special effects are very well made, but it is the director who has to do the movie and he didn't had something to say, an interesting frightening story to tell, only the gore effects are convincing. It has so much useless dialogues, many infantile jokes. It would have been much better to make the killer more menacing. Letting us know that he is around. We do not feel his presence at all. Jason Alexander is more present telling jokes during half of the movie than the killer, it is more for young teenagers.
