Little Monsters (2012)
I guess someone have to make a fare review
The movie is bad, a low budget film, B style. I watched thinking it was some kind of documentary hopping for a psychological hypothesis about this two boys. Soon I realized it was about a fictional story of these killers once they are out of prison when they turned 18. It's not really that bad, it's watchable in my opinion, if you can get over about the real story of what happened when they were 10. The plot is as good as any mediocre movie (several holes in it), there are million as bad as this one rated over 7 or so. The acting is OK, some bad performances (reporters) are compensated for good ones like Carl who really has a creepy vibe, or his mom. You can't see any gore besides couple gun shoots and all the psychology behind behaviors is not that solid or believable mostly I assumed due to bad acting. The movie definitely is not awesome but I'm sure it's nothing to condemn, you have watched hundred worst than this one.
Spoorloos (1988)
Rex is the problem?
May be this review is more for me than any reader.
Couple points:
-The free will and random life vs fate, dream symbolism, destiny fear.
-Light in the tunnel (light-dark) buried alive: she looks for the flashlight gambling her life to luck inside the car (everyone does stupid things) he turns away and follow his reason and smile when she desperate scream at him. She had predicted the consequences, he blindly followed his certainty.
-Measuring everything the obsessed CLAUSTROPHOBIC chemistry professor developed a precise procedure that fails: lowering his cardiac rhythm in a process to be calm and perform accurate, the echo test of his family screaming to test noise range, miles to drive after induce sleeping, the broken arm trick to not fail in attracting the victim, but at the end events just developed to accomplish his goal without trying. He confessed the idea, the plan, the obsession, the systematization, the perseverance, the success as a probe to himself that it's possible. The jump to the street, "what if I do what I don't suppose to do", "the murderer it's only linked for his motivation", "capable of the best and the worst", "what's worst than dying?" a common status guy, that naturally for a french culture would look for an affair because he's in age, decide to go for a better accomplishment than prostitutes.
-She trying to speak French with him, being too close, too confident, like she's already seen the picture of his family in the car, too many people, the stolen bicycles a common crime that simple is completely untraceable. Missing foreign people, the no-places, the wait to mark them as lost, the careless, the well known kafkanian bureaucracy, frustration, the impotence, uncertainty, how hard would the public force put into this case?
The key:
-Rex drinking the coffee. He's obsession is deluded, even when he is brought back every year for the murderer's letters to the same town, same anniversary. The ping pong balls, the coke and beer, the promise to never leave her again ever, the golden eggs in the space dream, he's not rage or vendetta feeling, not hate to the murderer, just to find the truth, just to find and ANSWER that release him from finding the house where they were going to spend their vacations, the coins have to keep together, destiny, the map in his apt, the pile of folders, videos, his TV appearance "I'm going to go to wherever it needs to find out the truth" "nothing will stop me", not even a new love, someone to not loss again, not even that.
Did Rex really show us all that? the burden feeling of not find answer in who should look for our security. Who ever has been victim of a crime and no answer was ever given to him/her. Can really wait? for what? The harmless murderer surrendering at his place, like 7 seven, "i only know the truth" "if anything happen to me i have everything arrange"? in 5 minutes i'll leave" the rig. Strong enough? what about beating up the guy, you may feel in control, not really threatened. why people just get in a car with someone they had met at the bar? haven't you done that? what if there is that chance? being confuse, many feelings. is it really that impossible? it might happen to anybody in the right state of mind.
the Rex we saw, is he the problem?
