The Rookie: The Shake Up (2019)
Here we go...
Another show that feels it only represent Christians as total psychopaths. It gets old. The stooge of a character they get to play the new captain is so far over the top as an incompetent white guy it completely detracts from the show. Is it so hard to write in a character that's competent, but demonstrates a different style of leadership? I really like this show about 80% of the time, but this episode is certainly a sign of things to come and probably the end for many viewers who appreciate an honest storyline.
Billy the Kid (2022)
Dialogue is a disgrace
It's hard to imagine, with so many talented people in this world, how the dialogue in this show reminds me of the way we mocked one another as kids. You talk real slow and overemphasize syllables like you're talking to a kindergartner. Of course it's also anti American and politically correct, which I can handle much better in a modern drama, but not in a western time piece. I'm even ok with shows that stray from the real story, but this is a completely new story with the Billy the Kid name attached to it. Not good.
Uncut Gems (2019)
One of the worst movies I've ever tried to watch
No storyline. No redeemable characters. Poorly written, if anything was written at all. Literally a show about nothing. If you like a million f bombs for no apparent reason other than the lack of any substantial dialogue, then this is you gem! I can't believe I lasted an hour, and felt much better after leaving. The people I was with all left as well. Total garbage of a film.
Designated Survivor (2016)
Why flip the script for season2?
First of all, I'm a big Kiefer Sutherland fan. I appreciate the heart of the characters he plays.
In season 1 I loved the idea of an honest politician, no matter how corny or unlikely. It was a refreshing take which emphasized unity.
The first season they focused on the mystery/thriller aspects of the storyline and occasionally added some political ideology, which was fair to both sides in my opinion.
Then they flipped the script in season 2. It seemed by episode 3 I was watching an infomercial for the Democratic Party. It was just so blatantly in your face, I lost interest in the characters and the lack of a substantial storyline made it extremely boring really fast.
Personally, I don't mind a certain leaning, politically, in the shows I watch as long as it's subtle and naturally a part of the narrative. Season 2 seemed to have a political agenda season 1 didn't possess. Everything, especially the corny jokes and introduction of a new "main player" character completely changed the dynamic of the show. It went from a 24 type cliffhanger of a show to halfwit comedy with a political agenda.
Finally, as much I was looking forward to season 2 and want it to be as good as season 1, I've realized 4 episodes in I'll never see episode 5. Look forward to seeing if others feel the same.
