Jaadugar (2022)
Could have been sweeter!
Treatment of the film is good. Performances are all up to the mark. The small town feel is really quite sweet and convincing. As are some of the characters. However the story miss the mark. On many levels! Plus I couldn't really understand what the hero wants from life. His story arc is all over the place!
The end is ridiculously contrived just to be different. But it's still a clichè! Unconvincing premise...the hero has to comply with a unbelievable request to win the girl. The lead just becomes annoying at this point. And the end almost inevitable. Wish the script had been as good as the cast and the feel of the film.
The Gray Man (2022)
Action doth not make a film,
Oh my lord, what is this. Fabulous budget, some nice location, a good cast....what happened?? Action. Loads of it. But action doth not make a film, story does, a good script does. There ain't much of that here. In fact it's embarrassingly low on that score.
London Files (2022)
Tedium galore!
Starts off with a bit of promise, but the pacing and intercutting flashbacks kill the narrative, along with other flaws. And then the narrative itself is a problem too! I just couldn't get into what the antagonist stood for! And his performance ...is odd. Add to that Mr Rampal's whispery dialogue delivery- it all adds up to a extremely difficult to watch series!
Mumbai Diaries (2021)
Amateurish.
A large percentage of this series is unbearable! Terrible story writing. Some parts are watchable largely becos of a couple of performances. In particular Mohit Raina. He is really good. Konkona Sen is a notable
mention too.
26/11 is a story we know quite well... for any series on those dramatic days, needed to be told in a way that was fresh and worthy of being told.
Mumbai diaries doesn't hit the mark.
Tabbar (2021)
Great premise
Great premise. Early episodes are very good. It's clever and seems realistic ...until..there is unremitting vile doings and deaths. I've give 7 stars for performances and some really good episodes. There is a lot good about this mini series...but could have been so
Much better!
Candy (2021)
Much ado about nothing!
Terrible series! Even the 2 leads didn't redeem this clunker. In fact they did a great job of over-acting! This cud have been so much more. But the the direction is sub standard.
Coolie No.1 (2020)
Why did they bother..?
I am baffled at what the intention was when they decided to to do this re-make of a Govinda starrer! Varun Dhawan is reduced to a baffoon....as is most of the cast. As for Sara Ali Khan- she is at her worst! Look wise and 'performance' wise. I tried hard to enjoy the film as a caper, but found nothing to smile at. The attempts at humour failed miserably for me...zero laughs!!!!
Ludo (2020)
Delightful!! and sooo crazy
This film is a fun ride, despite its length! So much to enjoy...characters, colours, situations, some good performances. I really didnt expect to enjoy it as much as I did since it had been panned by a few, at the outset. But I think tjis is the kind of film which will grow a die hard fan base :)
Soni (2018)
wonderful film
This film was a surprise package. Had never heard of it till i chanced upon it on netflix. The direction is good. The cast is good. The camerawork appropriate for the subject & narration. The story id subtly told. A quiet film, with pauses and holding shots to suggest inner journey of the characters. I really liked the film. This slice of life could have gone on for way longer...I wouldnt have minded at all!
Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare (2019)
Interesting premise
It may not be a perfect film...but I rated it 8 stars for the premise and performances- by and large. Plus the protagonists journeys. The women led story may definitely be uncomfortable for a lot of folks, especially men :) However its important that we chart the stories of women...their sexuality...their aspirations. Why not? Its worth a watch even if u are uncomfortable!
