Great movie but Villeneuve always does the same
10 April 2024
He loves setting the mood, and oh lord, he does it well. But he does it too much.

This movie, just like the others he directed, needs a bunch of cuts.... Paul keeps looking at Chani over and over again. We understand, we don't need you to remind us seven times in the scene.

A lot of scenes are too exhausted, too long. I'd remove maybe more than 30 minutes of excessive and repetitive "mood setting scenes". Seriously, great music, powerful visuals, awesome designs... But please, Denis, stop making your films longer than needed. People complained about seeing Frodo's face over and over again... This guy does the same until we just want to punch our eyes...

As a native spanish, I didn't like the actors in general, some of them were terribly bad, specially the kid , the girl and some other characters... I guess the good reviews come from non native speakers, if you take away feeling how ankward Spanish actors sounds to us, the movie looks better. It's very common in Spain to see this kind of "theatre" acting that looks absolutely fake.

About the movie... It's well made, hence the rating. But for the plot and dialogs, I've seen everything already. All cliches. Nothing new. Not very funny, not very gory, weird puffs of blood all the time... I don't know. Not interesting. Bland.

Many things wrong here
17 December 2021
I have watched every single bit of stuff that is around, I've read Woddy's book, I've watched this documentary, and watched many videos on YT.

There are several things that I disliked a lot in this documentary: Hiding very important details of pro-Allen people and stuff that happened, and is proven (like the letter she sent to Woody with nails on it and such weird stuff). Makes this documentary absolutely untrustworthy... it it wasn't before watching it.

Also, add to it the "movie like" sad moments, playing with the viewer feelings, make it look like a very subjective and very "sentimental" and not a serious documentary.

Adding some images that we have never seen and the taped conversations is really interesting. I didn't like that all of them are edited or cut right before an answer was heard or a part of it was needed! So when listening to the excerpts seems like the audio has been edited heavily and hidden important details.

I would suggest the viewers to now watch some other stuff not made by Allen or the Farrows. Now watch a documentary on YT made by somebody who spend a lot of time researching too, called "By the way, Woody Allen is inocent" for a deep dive on all the details and reasoning of both sides, independently of your opinion, forget the title. It comments the stuff seen in this documentary as well as Allen's book and much more.

It is way more objetive than any other thing, I think.

Anyway, I'm not convinced at all, nor by this or Woddy's version, but this one feels bad, really bad, really biased.

I still watch W. A. movies and enjoy them as a work of art the same way we can enjoy a painting by Picasso without knowing stuff he did in his private life, I can have an opinion, but that's all I can do. On the other side, I feel like Dylan, whatever is the real version, is really broken, so it's too late for her to really know if that was really what happened or not, things stick forever and they will.

The Giant (2017)
Good looking movie, differenty theme of a spanish movie
2 October 2021
I generally don't like spanish dramas. Just because they are often about the same themes and actors are not that convincing (in native language).

But this time, I loved these actors. I watched it dubbed into spanish, though. But the cinematography is AWESOME. The theme is really interesting, different.

The problem with the movie is not that it is slow paced or it has no feelings. It has a lot of feelings, the vfx / proesthetics works is amazing also, but it is that not much happens along the story... I wish there was more than just the "person who is treated like an object to get money and that ends up being a sad and terrible for everyone". It's ok for a premise but I wish more stuff happened than just gazes and people with sad faces.

Anyhow, GREAT movie. I'd love to see more of these kind of movies that are more local and more culturally similar to the real spain than others that only want to imitate what Hollywood does.

Spanish humor from my favourite director from Spain
2 June 2021
I loved it, I'm generally tired of spanish movies. But nobody dares to do this, or any of the films he has made possible ever. Unique style, unique characters, fun and different. And this specific film reminds me of the short stories of the 60's Italian movies somehow. The only thing I didn't like was the techno music in most of the sequences. It was pretty distracting, sometimes too loud to understand the dialog and not very aligned with the style of each story.

Anyway, it is a good movie. Javier Fesser will always be my favorite.

Gemini Man (2019)
The main idea doesn't work
21 May 2021
Well done movie. But boring at the end.

The main plot is sustained by the fact that he has a clone. But if he's good at what he does, that cannot be inherited. What you do and the life you had that made you what you are cannot be cloned. So the most basic base of the movie doesn't make sense.

Apart from that vfx was good but color was quite bad, some shots were terribly edited and had weirds skin color. The 3d kid was pretty good, even though he looked sad the whole movie, but it was terrible with running jumping and fighting phisics in full cgi shots was way too obvious... (back to Matrix 2 and 3 after 20 years, come on!).

If the movie had been set in a scfiction world out would have been more interesting.

Makes no sense. Best vfx
2 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I give the film a 4 solely based on the AMAZING vfx. First, the moronic attitude of the protagonist and basically the rest of the careers is not realistic and breaks the atmosphere all the time making it look like a teen movie. He looks like a guy of 13 and his attitude is way out of place. Any behavior makes sense... Getting out of a bunker after 7 years without holding a gun and terrified... Falls in a cave while reading a notebook (??), talking out loud to a dog in a place infested by deadly creatures, even next to them, letting a noisy robot put some music without any concern, humour in unexpected places breaking the atmosphere, the way everybody watches with amazement how creatures arise and walk towards them without doing nothing. Stupid and inexplicable behaviours that made us laugh out loud every minute. Whether it was the script itself or the director... No idea. It had a lot of acting problems that utterly destroyed the setting. This movie could have been awesome but the teenager movie's humor, somehow a "Scott Pilgrim + Zombieland" way, informal voice over making it a softer movie... Sorry, it didn't work. The point is to make it believable... Not to make a joke out of it but not taking it a little bit seriously. Otherwise you lose your audience's interest fast.

Colorful (2010)
Boring, cheesy and weird
29 April 2020
Not every anime movie has to be good. This one has very good backgrounds but they look like photographs. Not even that is good.
  • the plot does not advance at all.
  • feelings are all ankward. It doesn't make sense why he behaves the way he does. How he talks to people and why he hurts others.
  • animation in sometimes very very bad.
  • the motivation of the main character is never explained. His coldness is also never explained.
  • the reason why he gets friendly put of the blue with his only friend, when others treat him the same way, and why he laughs at him anyway, is never explained.
  • the reason why he is cruel with the rest does not make sense.
  • fake feelings, cheesy. Anime is in general that way but this one goes too far.

We have to be critical sometimes. Not all full length anime movies have to be good, even when they try/fake to be deep, they are terribly shallow and weird. Maybe people can think it's because Japanese people lacks sensibility, but as you can see on Ghibli's films, it is nothing like that. This one is a terribly boring, ilogical film, that fakes to be a great movie. I give it a three start because the artists at least did a good job.

Nothing fresh
22 April 2020
I like the concept, the construction, the image... But I think this is terrible. I consider myself a fan of his work, truth is I understand his isolation as an artist, what could come out from that, I like his persona and his way of doing things his way.

But I'm dissapointed. He is not good at editing, his shots take longer or shorter than necessary, always. He has no rithm. His voice is wonderful and looks too, but he's not good actor in terms of doing something more deep or with some emotion. Chosing to do the voice of the monkey creates a very weird conversation between two people who talk the same way. It doesn't look like a conversation in fact, seems like he is reading all the text in front of all class in school. So exagerated and well pronounced (he's always talked that way and I love it, but he needs more emotion here).

Not weird, just badly edited and badly voiced. It could have been more fun...

Frozen II (2019)
Terrible film for kids and for adults
2 January 2020
I like the first one and I have worked on animation for years. Technically it's a good movie but everything is so good now that the story is what matters. I went to see the film with my niece, she loved the first one... But this time she was bored to death, songs were bad and nobody remembers any of them for sure, some of them were terrible. the pace is too slow. Simple moments for kids mixed with long and really boring and abstract conversations about family ties, past and stuff that no kid understood, kids were running around and touching the screen. Every time a song started everybody was doing "palmfaces"... it was a pain. And I love musicals... Pixar does it always better. Makes jokes for kids and wink moments for adults, sad moments are short and understandable. Thank god that Olaf came to save those terrible moments with better humor, even though I never liked the character.

Troll Bridge (2019)
Awesome project
31 October 2019
This was a project made by a lot of people, huge amount of supporters and most of it done online. I've been following it since the beginning and the quality of the images is AMAZING.

Don Bridges feels incredibly real, and well suited for it. The spectatular views, the horse.

I love all of it. But I have something to say... just one thing that made me bring down the rating a little bit. The animation is not convincing for the troll family. As other users say, the animation level is lower than the production of the movie, it looks like cartoony animation. I think it should have been more realistic. I thought it from the beginning. Let me explain: These creatures are made of rock, so their mouth should not stretch and squash the same way a 3d cartoony character would. It makes them look like videogame / bad rigged characters.

That's a pity, because the tone and look of it all goes down the same moment you see the troll climbing up the bridge. No weight at all, fixed movement curves... it destroyed the sequence, and it looked like an animatic insert on a videogame kind of thing. I'm really confused why so many great movies, products, videogames, fail to hire / find skilled animators that allow characters to look realistic, there are too many of them in the world looking for oportunities. I have no explanation for that, and it is a pity.

But the value of it all is worth it, and I congratulate the whole team for the great job they have done.

All About Me (2018)
Only one thing missing
24 September 2019
There is nothing I can add to the rest of the reviews except that if it is watched by somebody who don't know this comediant, like me, there is not much explanation, maybe some footage of him to explain who he became afterwards, so some people need to understand the meaning of the film reading the summary. It's a pity.

Torrente 5 (2014)
Great quality
20 October 2014
Torrente 5 is a very well done movie, with high quality images and production, nice VFX, nice jokes. Everything you can expect and much more from a Torrente movie.

The cameos are very entertaining and funny and the old jokes are always welcome. It is a very good movie from the saga, well directed and well chosen actors.

It is what you can expect, the bad taste jokes from all times and new jokes very well adapted, with a shallow criticism (sometimes we need somebody to jump over the tabu) and very entertaining. And cinema is, over all, entertainment + money. It gave what i wanted to see and much more.

Segura is a great director. Torrente 5 should be the last movie, and now we wait for other stories and plots.

Cars 2 (2011)
I'm so sad
9 July 2011
I'm the hugest fan of Pixar and here i'm so sad.

The differences that i think make this movie much worst than the first are:

  • Cars and Cars2 is that in Cars, cars do what they really do in real life, and people just disappear. In Cars 2 cars do what PEOPLE do, jump around, use weapons, drink, go to bathroom, use elevators... etc etc etc. Makes you think they are not cars, but people turned to cars. There are even Geisha-style cars. That's definitely not Pixar style. Makes me think of other companies.

  • Cars2 is action non-stop, you can't get used to a place anymore, the scenarios are a lot and the characters, a lot. Just very boring, the action bores you at the end.

I'm so sorry. I understand why they could have done this, but please, don't do more sequels. Please.
