Fair Play (2023)
Great movie!
Loved this one. Fantastic acting from both leads. Great script and dialogue. Great cinematography.
Spoilers: I'm not sure I'm a fan of the ending. Most of the way this is a well-written realistic relatable set of circumstances. It's easy to understand how difficult it might be for two good people to navigate this situation. But in the last few scenes, the characters morph into non-relatable people. I would have preferred to see a less intense ending, more like real life.
But loved the journey to the ending. Some movies don't quite stick the landing, but I enjoyed the ride so much that I don't hold it against it. Wish they made more movies like this.
The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)
The best Christmas Carol movie.
My wife and I agree that this is the best Christmas Carol version. We've watched nearly all of them. Only Scrooged is in competition with it in my opinion, but that differs quite a bit from the original.
The muppets are great, Michael Caine is great, the effects are great. I'm not sure I can think of an actor who could do a better job. Kermit is a perfect fit to play Scrooge's mistreated assistant, since we're used to seeing him play a similar role with Miss Piggy.
Just watched this recently and it's surprisingly well done for a first time director.
Looking forward to watching it in the future so that I can start to memorize the songs.
Nice Guy Johnny (2010)
It's all right
I'm a big fan of Ed Burns movies normally. This one is ok.
The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
Some thoughts...
Actually I rated this a 2 because I only read negative reviews, and am writing this for people like me. Don't let the critics fool you. This movie was awesome. I'd like to address some of the complaints I've read in those negative reviews. There was confusion about what happened to Peter's parents. Agreed. The scene with the kid in the burning car was unnecessarily long. Agreed. Can't say the music was awesome, because I don't remember noticing it. Agreed. But the movie's strengths, the acting, and the CGI were so spectacular that it's difficult to imagine someone finding fault with them. Casting was excellent. Didn't expect to like Emma Stone in this role, but she was a good fit. Also, I didn't expect there to be so much emotion. Had to pretend to scratch my face when I was actually wiping away tears (slick). I don't remember that kind of emotion in the first set of Spidey films. People have been complaining about the suit not being so skin tight; that it wasn't realistic. That actually makes it more realistic. How is it possible there would be no creases in the fabric? Peter was picked on in the beginning, but he wasn't a super-nerd in this film. It makes the romance more believable. Peter never found Uncle Ben's killer, but I realized that is OK. We know that the shooting was an accident, and the killer wasn't all bad because he gave Peter the milk he didn't have the money for. The audience can be OK that he isn't found and severely punished. Again, the CGI and acting were excellent. Can't wait for the next one. Go see this movie.
