The Wife (I) (2017)
2/10
Derivative drivel
16 August 2023
I only had to see about 20 minutes to realize the story contained within this predictable waste of time is neither original nor all that interesting. Same old story... narcissistic man who takes credit for his poor wife's contribution. Yawn. At least the insipid Big Eyes was based on real events.

While Glenn Close's acting experience came through like a force of nature, her character is too similar and familiar to previous roles. The family dynamic presents as trite. The intrusive Christian Slater character is far too simplistic a device to move the story along, and the premise of the movie is tired at best.

What a disappointment

I was SO jazzed to see this after the trailers came out. We had not been to the theater since "Sideways" and "Master and Commander". I can say the only redeeming thing about it is that we only paid $2.50 each to see it. Terrible acting, terrible dialog, terrible editing and even worse directing. What a lost opportunity. But, what else should one expect from an English director? They have no sense of building tension, developing characters, telling a story in an even fashion and their editing skills SUCK. All of the best effects were shown in the previews, so there was nothing new to be seen in the movie itself, save a few moments in the enchanted garden. The Huntsman character was boring, the Snow White character was boring, the Queen was not convincing, her brother was pathetic and the dwarfs were out of context. DO NOT waste your time on this dog.
