The X Files: Home (1996)
There's something rotten in Mayberry
I first watched this episode when it aired in 1996. Every Sunday, since the pilot, my friends and I gathered for dinner before settling down to watch The X Files. Now, in 2023, binge watching the series this summer, I find myself just as deeply disturbed as I was that night. This episode is truly frightening. Worthy of and even surpassing one of the show's supposed inspirations, Kolchak: The Night Stalker, and a television gem gifted to us by the wonder team of Glen Morgan and James Wong. It ranks as one of my top favorites, mostly for the humor that balances the horrifying subject matter. Twenty-six years on, this fantastic X Files episode is truly just as disturbing. I sure may want to lock my door tonight or just kick back and listen to some Johnny Mathis, while awaiting the joy that is another Monster-of-the-Week episode, "The Post-Modern Prometheus" in Season Five.
Ultrasuede: In Search of Halston (2010)
In search of Halston? Please look elsewhere...
Please read the other reviews, because I cannot fully put into words just how awful this is. Coming of age in NYC in the late 70s and early 80s, I absolutely *adored* Halston! Now, what a muscle car and Halston have to do with one another is the first of some truly appalling moments to come. The director is the rudest Southerner I have ever seen, was completely ill-prepared to meet some of the biggest names in fashion, had zero sense of fashion history... Only the archival footage makes this bearable, and, even then, just barely. Watch the divine Netflix "Halston" instead!
