This might be one of the funnier LoL shows out there
28 March 2024
I think LOL France gets it right where they start out with a rule of "no laughing" for the first few cards, then they go into "no smiling" rule. I think it makes it much more funnier, because at the start people become too serious and timid to avoid even smiling that shows aren't as funny.

I think too many shows end up with people that dont do anything at all but dont smile (and eventually get booted). Its better this way that they are allowed to smile and higher chance of being funny. I think the.4th season had a lot of funny characters. It's too bad there's not return comedians like other shows, i think many of the funnier ones should return. The two sisters should make a return together.

Another bad LOL from Africa
11 March 2024
Not funny at all, maybe not as bad as LOL: Nigeria but had very distasteful humor and it was overall boring. Thought it was a culture clash but no the reviews also show it was just lame.

They should hire all actual comedians for the show, maybe Trevor Noah wouldve been a better candidate than host. The influencers/actresses trend is getting away from the original LOL recipe and just makes the overall show worse.

Another dud. Also didn't like that it was also a little racist vs the one white guy that they included. I thought south africa wouldve been a more diverse cast, but that was not on display here.

Foundation Season 2 is best sci fi show out there....
12 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
With the Expanse ending last year, Foundation is the frontrunner for best current sci fi show. The show is held together by all its great actors: Lee Pace is back in his element, Jared Harris is always pushing forward the plot, and Laura Birn levels up in this season with more layers to her character.

I enjoyed the new and old secondary characters, brother Dusk and Dawn, Sareth, Hober, Constant, Poly; flawed but interesting characters. I'd say the element between Salvor and Gaal is probably my least favorite interaction. Can't wait for season 3, the ending to season 2 set up for an epic sequel.

Truman's show in the best timeline...
17 May 2023
Really funny and original. Trailblazer of its kind. They were lucky to find the best guy for the main role too. It's an interesting concept. I hope this genre can continue on before everyone knows about it and the fun is ruined (like punk'd).

It would've been funnier to see improv characters go off-script and see the reactions. I'm surprised there weren't more bloopers or close calls that were showed. It would also be so much more interesting if you had 2 people that were real, I wonder if they would find each other and figure this out before the final scene. It was a little too scripted for only 1 real person. 2 real people there might've been too much off-script scenarios to try to control.

Pick comedians as contestants, not social media influencers...
24 March 2023
Really bad trend in LOL shows where they pick contestants for their popularity on social media instead of comedians. The show is based off of documental, which is about who is funniest in a room of funny people and can still avoid laughing. It's really supposed to be a contest between comedians.

You picked a bunch of amateurs as the majority and comedians few and far between. Then you picked a strict judge that gave yellow cards multiple times within the first episode, not giving them a chance to settle into the game.

Even the judge in LOL: Spain gave the contestants a break when they were all laughing at the start, because it's common sense. Maybe they should pick a funnier south american country. The brazil show is hilarious.

the first season was gold
26 January 2023
I thought the first season was hilarious, even comparatively one of the better seasons of all LOL and ive watched all countries' versions of LOL even the entire original japanese series.

The second season ruined the rating for me, they should not have a live audience, it ruined the pacing and broke the 4th wall. And keep it only to comedians, i understand that influencers bring in more viewers but one of the points of the show is to find the best comedian at their art among their peers. Bring in the best of the best at comedy. I wouldnt touch the original recipe if its worked in many countries.

this is one of the least funny LOL versions...
1 April 2022
They bring in non-participants to make them laugh because the contestant cant. I like the versions with zombies (contestants that have already scored out). Maybe just difference in cultures bc i didnt find any of the jokes funny.

Money Grab on Christmas. Even the other Wachowski sister didn't want to direct...
29 December 2021
I can recall the first movies with the post credits saying directed by "The Wachowski Brothers" and thinking these directors were far ahead of the game.

It was a little suspicious not having both back on board for their crown jewel movie. The sad part was the astounding amount of flashbacks they added to this movie; the best parts of this movie were just replays of the best scenes of past movies. The industry has passed them by and the director is stuck in the past. They tried to pull on the crowd's nostalgia strings by replaying the most memorable past scenes between fan favorites. If I wanted to rewatch the original trilogy, I would've gone ahead and just watched them. It felt like I was watching a show of the Wachowski's greatest hits.

The lamest part was they tried to be smart and meta breaking the 4th wall and throwing shade at the industry but still being subpar and a money grab.

Shame on the Wachowskis. They need to transition out of the past.

interesting for torontonians...
13 October 2021
Nice to see the inside happening and goings in the team, but it should have spent more time on the players (namely their stars), and also this series was less episodes than other all or nothing series (but to be fair, they didnt get pass first round so i guess thats why).

the original was so perfect that the remake can only makes mistakes...
29 September 2020
The remake is actually not so bad. but people that havent watched the original are missing out on one of the greatest shows. and they've completely botched it so much so that fans of the original would rather it cancelled than see the sequel that we never got.

i was hoping these showmakers would do better, i mean Gillian Flynn wrote Gone Girl which was fantastic. but this is not a movie and its not her source material. Arby and Jessica Hyde really carried the original show. but they did not cast Jessica Hyde well, Arby and Wilson are okay picks. Cusack and Wilson are great actors but the scriptwriting is subpar.

I would only like to see a second season if the director and writers are replaced.

Underrated drama...
2 July 2020
This show had a lot of beautiful moments that will catch you off guard. There are no heroes in this show, everyone is a little flawed, and that makes you root for them even more. There were so many family dynamics they covered perfectly: brothers, couples, parents. The only character that was a little annoying was a daughter, but I'm sure that feeling meant they nailed that dynamic too.

Freud only in name...
28 March 2020
The show's plot does not even revolve around Freud. It has to do with a mysticism/occult crime plot with creepy shady characters behind it. Freud seems like a secondary character in this show named after him. The story is really about some seductive medium that Freud tries to figure out.

My hope for this show was to observe how Freud developed his theories and applied it. The only redeeming character in this show is the inspector Kiss. Also the English dubbing is impeccable, I could hardly tell it was originally German.

Nostalgia pulled in, but stayed for the class acting
27 March 2020
Was a pleasure to see all the changes and development of the computer, tech industry, innovations. It's crazy to think how some of the big names now started out as a company.

But the real gem of this show is the actors. Lee Pace displays his best acting performance here, and by the end of the show, Lee Pace is Joe MacMillan and Joe MacMillan is Lee Pace. The characters become fully fleshed out through to to the finale (some have arcs that are sad, good, bittersweet, true to life). Scoot McNairy was amazing in acting with a physical debilitation.

Sad to see the show end, but the story was told. Bravo to the actors and supporting team.

Keep this letter unopened...
27 March 2020
It had its fun moments, but it never really picked up, there was a lot of missing elements to make a story: 1) no real interaction between hero and villain, no struggle between the two parties. I don't think the heroine and villain even spoke a word to each other, 2) the main character that the viewers follow is not even the hero, why didnt we follow the heroine's backstory? 3) there was no explicit motive why the villain became a villain, he turned "bad" because it was prophecy. In many ways I actually liked the villain more than the heroes.

Altered Carbon (2018–2020)

Season 1 was 10/10 stellar, 6/10 for Season 2 they replaced the main character's actor
29 February 2020
The quality really dropped on season 2; season 1 plot had all the intrigue, real villains with real consequences, plot twists. Season 2 was predictably straightforward and missing all the visceral violence and gratuitous sex/nudity. Didn't have any characters as comic relief either.

The worst part of season 2 is that the new Takeshi Kovacs, Anthony Mackie, doesn't have any semblance of the same conflicted personality. In fact, he shows little to no emotion at all; season 1 was carried by the visible internal struggle of Joel Kinnaman (shout out also to Dichen Lachman who played Rei). It really messes up a show when they change the main character's actor.

the supporting cast level of actors was downgraded, even the returning actor's personality's literally and metaphorically changed for the worse. the atmosphere is lacking the futuristic sci-fi feel and grandeur of season 1's rich, advanced areas; season 2 is mostly in the rural/poor setting. the new technology they showed was light-up hair clips. The silver lining is that the last episode gives me hope for the next season to get back on track...

Season 2 is when it picks up...
5 January 2020
Great season 2 with some stellar "solo" acting. The show is missing one central hero, and has multiple developing characters, and honestly had a great anti-hero in the second season. Unfortunately, some snobs rated this show poorly because its not close to history, while ignoring all the supernatural events; suspension of belief went completely over their heads. Do not treat this as a history documentary, and watch it without any expectations of culture or religions. Just imagine it was in a different universe, because with spells, magic and witchcraft; it pretty much is!

Kingdom (2014–2017)

Amazing drama, flying under the radar
20 November 2014
I initially started watching Kingdom because I'm a huge fan of mixed martial arts, but the characters and story surrounding it really drew me in. I've been watching it for several episodes, and each one progressively gets better. Each character has their own unique personality and story, and I'm quite surprised at how developed and captivating each character is. There is no main character, and there are no heroes here, rather each person has skeletons in the closet. I can't believe there isn't more eyes on this show, because it really is a great drama. Feel like it is flying under the radar, and will become a cult classic after it is all said and done. There is an audience for this show, it just needs to get its name out there.

King Arthur (2004)

Decent film for those who like this genre, but deserves the criticism....
4 March 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I for one liked this film, since I'm a sucker for medieval period films (Kingdom of Heaven, Gladiator, Centurion) -- but I didn't love it. I can see the reason why there stands much criticism of it.

Apart from historical inconsistencies, which the film never promised anything, there were several issues I had with the plot. Firstly, the emotional connections seemed to be forced onto the audience. The strong relation between the first knight to die and the lost boy and Bors seemed to come about only so the audience felt a shred of remorse when the first knight died, but it was shallow and too early. They attempted a love triangle between King Arthur, Lancelot and Guinevere, but it never took off, which can also be said for the movie's potential. I did not like that ironclad Saxon savages lost to cloth-wearing savages, the Saxons were portrayed to be too inexperienced and helpless. The action was decent, although I would have liked to seen more focus on an epic 1v1 battle instead of cut scenes between them.

All in all, great acting from the cast of knights, although Knightley's performance was forgettable

Good potential, gone bad
4 March 2012
I thought this movie had a chance to be great, but it just seemed too rushed to salvage any potential it actually had. The character development was shallow, you'd see characters die early without having any attachment to them. There were attempts at emotional relationships, but the father/son, lovers, protagonist/antagonist relations never really deepened. If they had spent more time developing the story and characters, than try to do an LOTR-esque scenic overview of mountains, valleys, hills, it would have been great. I would say that the dialogue was not bad, the narration was a very nice touch. I really wish they had spent more time on this movie...

One of the worst movies I've watched....
7 February 2012
You know that feeling when the film suddenly stops short, you're left with no closure or satisfaction, and as the credits start to roll you begin to wonder why you watched this movie in the first place? This movie leaves that you with that awful taste after watching it. The majority of it takes place within a living room, alongside mindless distractions and unnecessary violence that prolongs an end to this horrid movie; the plot seems to be going no where. And you're continually wondering when this slow, drawn-out buildup finally leads to a climax or resolution, but it is very anti-climatic.

I would describe it to the likes of a teenager's first sexual experience; awkward, the other never feeling satisfied or seeing a climax, and a long sigh of disappointment immediately after.
