Robyn Hood (2023– )

Garbage

I can't make my mind up if it's the low budget or the story line that is the worst thing about this, but it was just unbearable. I have, and do, watch a fair few low budget B movies and I generally persist, but it's a rare thing that I give up, but I could not get through the first episode. It was just awful.

Sadly, it's one in a long line of activist style programming that puts activism before good storylines.

The acting is bad, sorry but it is. The opening scene where they fight off two police offices was just pathetic, unbelievable and the ease at which they got away was just yaaaawwwwnnnn!

I want my 30 minutes back! :(

Black Adam (2022)

If you like Super Hero films, go see it.

I really enjoyed the film. If you're a Rock fan you'll definitely enjoy it. I don't fall much for the hype surrounding any film, good or bad. Yes, there are a few woke elements in it and they did tarnish the films enjoyment, but not too many. They were bearable.

I liked the storyline, liked most of the characters, but I have to say the so called super heroes.....not particularly great on any level. It does kind of feel like the film industry is scraping the bottom of the barrel for 'another super hero'. They just felt like 'B' super heroes, I guess.

Don't get me wrong, the main character was fine, funny in places and all round enjoyable.

If you like Super Hero films, go see it.

Spiderhead (2022)

I guess I expected more from Chris Hemsworth to be honest. The film was ok, a unique storyline (that I haven't seen before anyway) but the film was kind of very flat from the start. No suspense. It just plodded along.

Personally, I saw a bit of Ghostbusters 2016 in Hemsworth's performance. There were bits where he seemed a bit folly for a serious drama.

I watched all of the film, so I guess that says something, but will I be recommending it to my friends.... er no.

Didn't hate it, enjoyed it actually. Just not that much.

They could have done so much more with this storyline, made it more suspenseful, less 'matter of fact'. Even the ending lacked the action it could have had.

If you're thinking of watching it, then do. Make up your own mind.

Monsters of Man (2020)

Not a bad watch

Where do I start? Overall not a bad movie. If you like Action movies then this is one for you. The acting had it's bad moments in places, but these days it's unusual to find a movie that isn't simply a regurge or a previous movie. The plot was different.

I thought the ending was a bit naff, but if there's going to be a sequel the maybe not so bad. Without a sequel though, the ending is flaky for sure.

A couple of scenes were a bit over dramatic when they didn't really need to be. This led to be giving it a 7 rather than an 8.

In a strange way, for a movie made up predominantly of people I've never heard of I have to say I recommend it to people and by contracts, I've seen some really big budget stuff lately that I thought was completely awful.

So in short, would be good to see what these guys could do with a big budget!

Message from the King (2016)

A good watch

I really enjoyed this film. I really had no idea what it was about until I actually watched it. I didn't even see the video graphic! I can't make my mind up what kind of budget this film had. On the one hand the locations say low budget, but the acting said higher budget.

When you see awful acting, it stands out soon into the film, no so with this. I have no idea who most of these people were, but i have no complaints about the acting at all.

Storyline was good, action was good, acting good. A close 8/10 to be honest.

A sign of a good film, is one you want to watch in one sitting. Seen too many films lately that I've been very happy to watch in several pieces and haven't been up to much at all and some of those are 'so called' blockbusters! This film beats many of those.

The Northman (2022)

I can't knock the acting, costumes, scenery and so on. But when all is said and done it wasn't particularly 'special'? The supernatural stuff was a little weird and didn't always make sense but it did have some brutal and good sword play.

Some well known people in it, but more cameo than main appearances (not that it needed them, the acting was fine as it was).

Some will say that it ought not to have been in English for it's 'Authenticity', personally, I wish they didn't keep jumping out of English!

I enjoy films for the film (in the main), I'm not going to criticize the authenticity of it all. I think the storyline could have been better though.

Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)

Thor Love and Thunder was on par with Spykids.

Don't believe all the negative hype. The film isn't that bad, I mean it's not good, but I think for different reasons.

Some films are aimed at kids (like Toy Story) and contain some adult jokes that only adults would get. That's a good combination, Thor Love and Thunder is aimed at Adults and older children (or at least the MCU series has thus far) but the jokes in this were clearly aimed at 5 year olds. Bits of it were stupid (the God of Dough Balls? Really - which idiot thought that was funny?). Thor basically gives everyone the power of Thor, so why didn't he do that in Endgame? Sadly, Thor Love and Thunder was on par with Spykids.

If that wasn't bad enough, Thor is now a joke of a Super Hero. I guess that's the bit many people are moaning about and they do have a point. Superhero films used to be just that, now they all have to be touchy feely, effeminate, cry and gaze into other blokes eyes!! WHAT was that all about?

I have seriously now lost my interest in the MCU and sure as hell won't be paying to watch another 'block buster' aka piece of rubbish, in the cinema. I'll watch the next MCU film at home.

Paradise Highway (2022)

Worth a watch

Not a high packed action movie, but a good storyline. The ending let it down a little bit, but not enough to ruin it.

You can imagine this kind of stuff going on so it's pretty much a 'day in the life of' kinda movie. Don't want to say too much and spoil it, because it is worth a watch.

Not popcorn and pizza night standard, but it's still a sit down, put your feet up film.

Morgan Freeman is an obvious draw to the film, but it was good to see that he wasn't surrounded with bad acting like you see in a lot of these movies where big stars seem to appear as supporting characters.

It's a solid 6.

Hot Seat (2022)

ok, but not great

You would think a film with Mel Gibson in it would be up there somewhere in the ratings, but this film was just not that great.

I watched it because Gibson was in it and I am sure many others will to. I wonder sometimes if big names lend themselves to lower end films to help them out. It got me to watch it, so I guess it worked.

Some of the acting was bad. The plot was ok, I guess. Best way to describe it... low budget film that lives up to every expectation of a low budget film. I try hard not to low ball ratings, but you just can't up mark this from a 3/10. If you're the kind of person who can watch anything (like me), then give it a go. If you're a hard to please film watcher, give it a miss.

Day Shift (2022)

Enjoyable film to watch

Enjoyed it. I've seen so many movies where either acting or the storyline were just bad. This was not one of them. Good solid movie. I'm not a vampire fan generally, but it was very enjoyable to watch. So thumbs up!

Moon Knight (2022)

Worth a watch

What I liked about this show as that it didn't follow the stereo typical storyline, so in that respect it was good. Too many things these days are just so predictable.

That said, the storyline was.....not sure how to put this without spoiling it.... a little odd for me.

But I watched it and in quick succession so I can't deny that I enjoyed it.

Stay Close (2021)

I was recommended this by a friend. Watched it. A good sign of a good program is the fact that you're keen to watch the next episode, and I was.

I'm not saying it will rock your world, but a good mini series. I enjoyed it.

Great Series

Great series, well worth a watch if you like things like Seal Team, NCIS, Criminal Minds. Good storyline, very enjoyable. No idea if there is to be a season 2, but if there is I'll be watching it!

Halo (2022– )

Enjoyed it a lot

This is always going to be an unpopular opinion in cases like this.... I totally get how the hard core Halo fans might not like it. Personally, I never played the game and a lot of the people I've spoken to who also liked it have never played the game either. So I guess, the reality is that a significant (larger) proportion of viewers will most likely have never played the game and can enjoy it. That doesn't help the real Halo fans I know. But at least it's not a a total woke fest like half the crap that's pouring out these days. The new 4400 reboot being a complete load of garbage as one example.

They may have entirely ripped the soul out of a beloved franchise, but I never knew it. So to me it's new and I can enjoy it....sorry guys thought it was brilliant.

9 Bullets (2022)

An average kind of 4 or 5 out of 10 film. Not really an action film, despite its title. Kind of boring really to be honest. I didn't think the acting was bad, it just wasn't a good film.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)

Worth a watch

If you're going to make a night out of it, I think you'll be a bit disappointed, but it was definitely worth a watch. My Niece loved it (can't quite see why myself, but she did).

My only comment is that the accent of Jessica Williams who plays Eulalie 'Lally' Hicks, was just plain awful, I mean really awful. I couldn't even work out what her accent was supposed to be...British I guess?

Other than that, the film was fine. It wasn't a drag by any means, but it did lack in 'wow' factor.

4400 (2021–2022)

Reasonable light entertainment - with every victim bagde you can think of

It stood a chance to be quite good, but after a few episodes the victim badge collection was getting a bit much. Every single episode seems to feel the need to tick as many boxes as possible. So many in fact it kind of distracts from any attempt to enjoy it.

It's almost as if it was produced to get a message across, not for it's storyline.

All that said, I did watch it (whilst I was multi-tasking) so it clearly didn't demand my full attention, but it was ok.

Planet Dune (2021)

A good movie is one you'd watch again at some point. This is not that. It was an ok B movie. I started watching it because I thought it was 'the' Dune. Acting was not great overall, sorry. I do try to get behind these kind of movies, but there were places where the acting was really bad. The dialogue was beyond cheesy too in places. I watched it all though. It's not one star for sure, but it's definitely not 5 stars either.
