Mental Scars (2009)
I don't know why I bought this!
The 80's slasher film! were milestones in movie making and similarity made to the 80's to do with Mental Scars is simply laughable. There is less wood in my table than in the acting in this film. It's shot by somebody who said mummy can I have a camera for Christmas - Hurray II'm a movie maker.
There is nothing in the film, no script technique, no technical knowledge of shooting. It was made on 35mm so someone had more money than sense. It looks like it was made on the cheapest miniDV camera sold at Walmart.
These guys have only made this one film - hopefully it will stay that way - unless they have more money than sense or they actually learned something from the process.
My suggestion - lie down and avoid!
Call of the Hunter (2009)
Love history and folklore - Love this
I came across this title whilst doing some research on the Green Man - and one of the connections is a book by a really excellent author John Matthews. The title is, The Quest for the Green Man. So one lead to the other and after reading the green man I decided to see what this film was about. The trailer looked interesting and I love horror movies and independent work so took a chance.
Having found out how low the budget, I was not only surprised by the quality, but was enthralled by the content. The first half is filled with great information and legend about Herne the Hunter, the Green Man and by not showing too much of him keep the interest in the character.
The acting is superb, the writing is excellent and it's been edited at pace so is never boring. The DVD also has quite a lot of extras which in the end made this a 10/10 vote for me in terms of value for money. I really believe that they could exploit other English legends and folklore.
In conclusion: Worth every penny, because every penny is on screen.

Blame it on the Press!
This was one that was banned in the UK years ago under the auspice of "video nasty". It's only nasty because it's rubbish and a pain in the bum to watch. It's only sixty odd minutes long and quite frankly it feels like for ever.
I'd heard that it's short, it's worth the watch, it's a classic.
It's not, it's not Last house, It's not a good story, it's not well acted, it's very very poor. The direction and script from Frederick R. Friedel is amazing.... amazingly BAD! Don't be tempted to spend your money I wasted time looking on Amazon and even after spending less than three quid, feel cheated. I've lodged my copy on amazon again - please God I hope that no potential buyer reads this review.
Panacea (2009)
Quirky
I saw this by accident on an independent shorts site. I can't say the photography is amazing, but I can say the acting, the writing and the vibe is really good. No spoiler here - check it out - worth the few minutes.
Conrad Turner has a look and a talent and have no idea why he never got a shot. Martin Hobbs as the Barman is a little wooden, but it kind of works. The director/writer has a way and it would be interesting to see what he would do with a bigger budget. I have seen the Call of the Hunter trailer and am going to risk buying a copy of the DVD - because - I fancy a look.
Check out Biker chick - my type yummy!
