Hard to get in to, but worth it
1 February 2023
This series took a while to get into. I was told give it 3 and it gets better. It actually took 5

It is incredible, the plot is superbly written, the cast is fantastic, the complexity and multiple stories ebb and flow through each other with such precision.

This isn't star wars we have seen before, this is how star wars should be. Dark, twisted and revealing.

I have to hand it to the writers, this is a masterpiece of star wars cannon.

The detailed rise (and fall) of characters in this ever evolving plot captures the feel of a classic war time epic. You can take the story out of a galaxy far far away and drop it into 1940's French resistance in ww2 and it would work.

Did I laugh? Once or twice Did I cry? No but got invested in every character Was I surprised? Yes Was it StarWars? Yes but better Will I watch season 2? Hell yes Did I binge watch? No, but I did after episode 5 How does it compare to Mando, Obi Wan and Book of?

It's one on its own. Richer, grittier and more gripping.

Misfits meets Spaced
1 February 2023
Totally refreshing tv. Stumbled across this after seeing an ad. 2 episodes in and I was hooked.

If you liked the weird vibe that the legendary tv series Misfits gave you and are a fan of the unbeatable Spaced with Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Jessica Haynes then this is a show you can get into.

It's not high budget, but the cast are brilliant. Each character has a back story you want to explore, and have difficult intricate quirks that add to the story.

The lead played by Máiréad Tyers bring a realism to the happenings that works in this unusual world. The entire cast are perfectly cast in this unusual setting.

Is it for everyone? No Is it worth watching? Yes Did I laugh? Oh yes!

Did I cry? No, but got feels Did I binge it? Yes, I had to.

Where did I watch it? Star on Disney+ (uk)

Nic Cage spoofing at its best
15 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Cameos Galore, A funny tribute to a remarkable actor who can laugh at himself "not the bee's" and also justifiably raise a proverbs glass of champers to his great action adventures.

Unusually for a film where an actor plays himself, he's not playing himself as an obnoxious fool. He brings likability and humour to the role.

The young Nic Cage took me by surprise but was a funny way to represent how we all see ourselves as we get older.

Honestly, there is nothing amazing in this film, just some good Sunday afternoon chill vibes. If you are a Nic Cage fan you'll love it. Call backs and Easter eggs dotted throughout will keep you entertained as much as Mr Cage's performance.

Only Scott Mosier and Bob's blueprints missing
9 December 2022
Kevin Smith has been circling my life since clerks came out in 1996. Helped me through some tough times. Filled my ears with podcasts and made me laugh countless times. Clerks 3 is full of memories and feels.

I'm a man the same age as Mr Smith, and so far haven't had a heart attack, but seeing this revisit to old ground, with a new take and a emotional undercurrent got me!

I wasn't expecting the outcome but I have to say Mr Smith delivers a movie through a fog of berserker and hits hard. Yes I fought back a tear or too!

I'd have loved to see Yondu (Rooker) reappear, Matt Damon, and of course Scott Mosier but I won't hold that against the Smodco team.

I will say this, I was expecting the reveal of Bobs blueprint of Moobys for that animal scene, but alas..

Well done Mr Smith, well done.

DCEU still suffers from lack of original ideas!
5 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a huge Batman fan, comic book adaptions but, the Rock can't save the DCEU

Plot is lacking, world building non existent, characters are weak, it's more like a CW episodic adventure. Character drivers are flimsy, cgi effects badly executed and too many influences from other franchises.

I am unsure why the DCEU just drops in new characters and tries to make them key players without a subtle introduction in other films.

The cavil reveal was exciting, but the 2 hours prior didn't do anything to help save the universe. THE Suicide Squad opened new doors, and gave hope to those invested in the future of dc films.

Wait for streaming, it's worth the streaming admission price.

Nice little Xmas treat
26 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Very well done, Groot is a bit different to his father. One thing that surprised me is there was little to no dancing. Nice nods to DCEU which made me smile and the gobots are now cannon I guess. 😊 Cosmos introduction and the ownership of Knowhere leads to some nice unseen backstories.

Angry Mantis is a revelation and her relationship with Drax and Peter is fun. Overall laughs and some sentimental themes make it good for the family. A few curse words about actors probably make it unsuitable for under 10's

Makes me prematurely miss the end of the Guardians trilogy and left me wishing Yondu could have been part of the adventure. Overall a nice little Xmas treat from the guys at Marvel.

Gets better
30 October 2022
It's a requel and doesn't shy away from the fact. The use of original characters is well done, not too much but enough for the original fans to enjoy.

Compared to other horror films this is very tame, but as a casual watch with some legacy nods it's a nice relaunch. The writers knew what they were doing and tired loose ends, and opened up some new threads in the process. I liked the nods to Jamie Lee and Wes Craven. Fun movie with easter eggs dotted around.

David, Courtney and Nev add links to the old movies but in no way detract from the new stories that play out. Take it for what it is and you'll enjoy it, compare to other horror movies and you may be left a little short.

Young avengers here we go
9 July 2022
It filled a gap left by the pandemic and was enjoyable but not great. Nice themes, quick exposition and some moments that needed more.

More young avengers introductions which is a little distracting but over all. It's a watchable film 🍿 a.

Everything I wanted.. now I want more
22 June 2022
Some slow moments, but Hayden was excellent and Ewan delivered. Ms Chow hit all the right notes and the story gave it all. A limited series that leaves me wanting more is a rare thing but bring it back for more PLEASE. 😊adventures await. Still got goosebumps. Excellent.

Mixed messages and no direction
26 December 2021
Children missing in camp grounds in the USA. This highlights that the USA department of the interior doesn't track incidents and doesn't want to. Other than that it shows that parents and guardians shouldn't leave anything to chance. Search and rescue need investment to do a thorough job. I feel for the lack of closure but this documentary does nothing to move things forward. The film makers could have set up a fund for the list of missing to be created which at time of production was $1.4 million.

Great interpretation of the 6
20 March 2021
Understanding the original release was forced due to Zacks family issue, and whedons vision being one of "JFDI", this vision was coherent, justified and well paced.

I wasn't a fan of 4:3 in the home but after a while you don't notice it (but widescreen would have been better)

Overall a much better vision finally bough to life by the original director. Oh, Aflek as Batman is a great interpretation and it's a shame he didn't get more time to deliver his version of the character.

Some obvious observations, why does Arthur get dressed just to rip off shirt. Why doesn't the boom box hole in the tunnel flood it?

Petty observations but all the same it was a good movie.

Nostalgic comedy drama that kicks
7 September 2020
This appeared on Netflix and I decided to give it a go. I remember the films highlights and I have to say this takes it to the next level.

I don't know if the audience other than those that remember the film would appreciate the series but those that do will love this.

It's self referential, funny, heart felt and brilliantly written. Showing how perceptions can only tell part of the story, this manages to make you think about the characters In a way that's unexpected.
