Another Me (2013)
DOES THIS LOOK LIKE "LET THE RIGHT ONE IN"?
BOTH FILMS USE AN EERIE UNDERPASS FROM THE APT. HOUSE AND EVEN THE OUTSIDE OF THE APT. HOUSE LOOKS SIMILAR?
Anyone else notice that?
And also the theme of the girl being bullied by her jealous classmate.
No not a great film, but I love it's atmosphere, and the music is particularly beautiful & haunting. Good cast, but kinda wasted-- Ifans and Forlani and also the wonderful Ivana Barquero, who was amazing in as the young girl in "Pan's Labyrinth", I would have liked to see more of especially . Was nice to see Sophie in another role after being a fan of "Game of Thrones"--She is rather stiff as an actress, but I hope she will improve with more experience.
Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019)
I'm over 70 and LOVED this film!
I guess from the comments that this was originally animated, and frankly, I could have done without the animated critters, but obviously needed for the kids used to seeing this animated. --but this was a delightful adventure, and as a theatrical designer, the sets and special effects were INCREDIBLE! The temple, the trap openings, hidden clues ,etc. were marvelous-- also saw the other film, "the Legend of the Hidden Temple-- that too was well-done--both perfect fare for an easy , lazy summer night!
Paradise Hills (2019)
Costumes! Sets!
First of all, let me say that as a costume designer, I will watch ANYTHING NO MATTER HOW BAD ( Red Sonja) if it's got great costumes and sets, and this one is FABULOUS where costumes and sets are concerned! Also, just the whole weird, luscious world it creates is so imaginative!
As far as the story, you don't know where it's going , and it makes it mysterious and keeps you guessing-- I like that!
This is a good SUMMER movie-- Superb eye candy in a lush summery setting, not too taxing on the brain--good to watch with a drink with a parasol in it! Enjoy!
Defending Jacob (2020)
If you like this, see...
"The Deep End" with Tilda Swinton--excellent film with a wonderful performance by Tilda, about a mother who discovers a body in her boathouse and believes her son is the killer
La rivolta degli schiavi (1960)
Not totally Revolting!
This is the kind of film , as a theatrical designer, I fast forward through to see if it's visually worth looking at--- I should say, I will watch a film no matter HOW BAD it is, if the sets and costumes look interesting ( and this is NOT a great film)--BUT--- This film is OUTSTANDING visually for it's over-the-top costume and set design (God, those Italians know HOW to do it RIGHT!) It was made in the, shall I say, "Golden Age of Sword & Sandal Epics" from the mid 50's to early 60's-all with bad scripts, bad overacting, bad dubbing, battle scenes-usually with someone revolting against a tyrant, some has-been American actors, lots of muscle guys and busty babes!--get the picture? Rhonda Fleming was one of the most gorgeous American actresses and looks fantastic in these luscious costumes and hairdos- 6 out of 10 just for the EYE-CANDY!
