Stowaway (2021)
sci-fi ignoring the science
The trivia states: 'YouTube video blogger, astronomy and space enthusiast Scott "Fly safe" Manley provided consultations and did orbital mechanics math to make sure the movie setting and plot are as scientifically accurate as possible.'
Well I guess they didn't listen to the guy, because the plot and science in this film are totally unbelievable, if not completely stupid. An accidental stowaway on a spaceship, really? No backup systems for major life support systems, no delays in communication halfway to mars, artificial gravity, moving on with the stowaway on board even willing to kill him to save the mission, just to name a few, not to mention all the plotholes.
On the positive side, the visuals were nice and I liked some formal aspects like the fact we stay on the spaceship all the time and we don't hear what Houston is saying or anything from earth, just four people on a spaceship. Also the slow pace could have been nice if they used the setting for a more tense psychological film. Unfortunately it was just too shallow and unbelievable to work in this case.
The Creative Brain (2019)
Interesting subject, poor film.
The film seems to be made without the use of a creative brain. No interesting form or content to be found here, just some of the most basic level psychology knowledge presented by an annoyingly slow voice over and lots of cheap dramatic music and the most obvious footage and animations. They interviewed some really creative people, but reduced them to a couple of mostly pretty uninteresting quotes each.
This film could have been so much more, it's a shame.
27: Gone Too Soon (2018)
Disappointing
Random people repeating stuff that we have already heard much more comprehensive and interesting in nice films such as 'Amy', 'Cobain: Montage of heck', 'Crossfire Hurricane', etc. Its all pretty superficial and unfocused and nothing new comes to the table.
It could have still be sort of entertaining if the artists would have played a role in the film, but there is almost no music from them, just a lot of cheap-sounding background music. Also almost no visual material, but lots of random close ups of tape machines, record players, random 60's shots and a lot of talking heads in a dull studio setting.
So not really worth your time if you ask me. Watch one of the films mentioned above instead, or read a good biography of these people.
