Animal (2023)
Sandeep Reddy Vanga is India's Quentin Tarantino !!
This Animal takes you on a wild beast-mode ride with gritty action sequences and a father-son drama. Ranbir again proves why he is one of the finest Indian actors in the current gen. He gives his best. The other hero of this movie is BGM. Many action sequences get the necessary elevation due to amazing score by Harshavardhan. Rashmika plays her part well and her confrontation scenes with Ranbir stand out. Sandeep pens some really good practical dialogues for all those scenes. Never seen Bobby Deol act so well. He brings life to the antagonist role just with his expressions. Overall, this Animal is something that has never been tamed on Indian screen. Although, it's 3 hr plus, you won't regret watching something different on the screen. Go for it !!
As far as Sandeep, Arjun Reddy still stands out as his best work till date. But Animal is no less.
Ponniyin Selvan: Part One (2022)
Another masterpiece from Mani sir !!
PS-1 has been Mani sir's dream project for a while and finally he delivers and doesn't disappoint at any juncture. With an ensembled star cast and ARR's thumping score, Mani narrates a gripping tale. Aishwarya Rai Bachhan and Trisha stand out and dominate everyone else. The episodes between them were superbly etched and the conflict between them was smartly showcased. You just can't take your eyes off Aishwarya whenever she's on screen. Karthi gets a meaty role and does his best. Vikram was good in parts. ARR is the soul of PS 1 and his terrific BGM elevates every episode. Go watch it and you won't be disappointed. Eagerly waiting for Part 2.
Bheemla Nayak (2022)
Laala Bheemla..adarakottu...hit kottu...Collectionlu gala gala gala laala bheemla !!!
One can say that bad movies of PSPK could be worse than the 3rd wave, if shown to Mr P he could go delirious and probably end war. At the same time, even it fetches decent talk it could register cash bells ringing, mark them as a massive hits. Bheemla Nayak, an honest remake of Ayyappanum Koshiyum with added masala elements falls into the later category and will end up as one of the first commercial hits in 2022. It has Trivikram flavor all over. He should wielded the megaphone too.
The actor in PSPK does well for a change. Although, a common moviegoer will still find him monotonous while his die hard fans would embellish it as his trademark and his signature style of performance. Rana as Daniel Shekhar steals the show and outperforms PSPK in a no. Of episodes. He was a treat to watch. The confrontation scenes were etched well and Thaman complements with a thumping BGM although he still resorts to getting "copy-inspired" by various movies BGMs (Bahubali BGM was carboned this time). Rao Ramesh repeats his Aa Aaa style of theatrics but manages to entertain. Nithya gets a meaty role and does justice. Samuthirakani plays the baddie with poise.
I liked Sagar Chandra's Apatlo Okaduundevadu, probably I was one of the very few who liked that movie. His puts in a modest effort with Bheemla and tries to stamp his mark. With Trivikram in the shadows it ain't an easy job. The way Daniel's characterization was handled in the pre climax episodes was disheartening to say the least. Also, the movie pace dips after the first 20-30 mins and again gains back momentum with a massy thumping interval bang.
Overall Bheemla awards PSPK much needed hit after a long, long time. If you haven't seen Ayyappnum you will enjoy it even more. For all fans of Ayyappnum, Bheemla is its massy version with PSPK's touch, trivikram's punch and Rana's cinch. Go for it.
Pushpa: The Rise - Part 1 (2021)
Pushpa - Thaggede le !! macha, raccha lepindu le !!!
Every elite artiste has a landmark movie in their cine careers. You can't talk about Kamal without describing his mesmerizing performance in Nayakan, Rajani's book wouldn't be complete without devoting chapter(s) to Dalapathi and admiring his charismatic act as Surya. Big B has Zanjeer, Dewaar, Sholay and a few more to look back proudly at his legacy, Chiru has Rudraveena, Khaidi in his kitty. Allu Arjun has a few decent movies in his 18yrs cinespan so far but not a career defining one until Dec 16th, 2021. PushpaRaj is Allu Arjun's Michael Corleone, his Surya, his Vijay !!
Credit to Sukumar, the mathematician turned director for etching the role of Pushpa and exquisitely narrating the rise of Pushpa. I still watch 1-Nenokkadine whenever I happen to stumble across on OTT. Such a masterpiece and such a magician.
When the duo collaborated for the 3rd time, stakes were pretty high, and omg when the showdown arrived, it turned out to be a royal flush. As the titles roll, story unfolds, you are taken into an exhilarating journey of Pushparaj, his nativity, his authenticity and his life. You are sucked into admiring his characterization, his terrific screen presence and are transported into chittor district and traverse with him for the next 3 hrs. After PushpaRaj, Bhanwar Singh Shekawat aka Fahad Faasil stands out (he was Suku's river card). His duel with Pushpa even though was just for 20 mins keeps you glued and whistling for more. Pushpa-the rule is sure going to have oodles of this ego duels. Sunil as Managlam Sreenu, Anusaya as Daksha play the perfect baddie on-screen couple. I was a tad disappointed, Sunil's role had the scope to be more nefarious. Rashmika's de-glam role was passable not meaty though. Ajay Ghosh bags another decent role and portrays with aplomb. Sam's sexy item song was titillating enough. DSP's BGM was good however the re-recording was somewhat messed up. A few episodes didn't sound well. Suku's narration slows down in the 2nd half but gives you the necessary exultation in the climax and the urge to watch Pushpa the Rule asap.
As the end credits roll, a sense of satisfaction descends upon you, a sense of jubilation for the luv of telugu cinema, a sense of watching something unconventional, a sense of pride. Cinema itself doesn't need to be grandiose, the grandeur comes from the narration and the performance. Pushpa is AA's flight to the pinnacle of his stardom. Thaggede le !!!
Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy (2019)
SyeRaa - An ode to an unsung hero !!!
Chiru's magnum opus Sye raa lives up to all the moolah and pre release hype. Power packed performance by Chiru, superb action episodes, excellent visuals by Ratnavelu and emotional quotient stand out. Kichha Sudeep, Big B and Vijay Sethupathi do justice to their roles. Surender Reddy does a decent job but his narration could have been better. First 30 mins, haphazard narration and some of the VFX shots are drawbacks. Keeping aside the flaws, this is a must watch !!!
Brahmotsavam (2016)
Brahmotsavam - "Do grand festival, Pandaga Chesukondi" !!!
Long long ago, when NTR and ANR enacted in multi starrers it was a feast for the eyes. When that trend bogged down, it was Srikanth Addala who revamped with his cult classic SVSC. Addala's journey so far has been a memorable one in the world of telugu cinema. The subjects he chose; the way he had woven story lines intertwined with emotions was gaily applauded. MB got the much needed kick from his last enterprise Srimanthudu. He wanted more, like the cola ad, so chose Brahmotsavam to woo the family audience again.
MB is prince charming, looks stunning and as usual gives sleepless nights to his female patrons. The concept of Brahmotsavam which springs to birth in the later half of the movie is fresh and appreciative. But the biggest disappointment was Addala's lackluster screenplay and narration. The first 45 min of the movie reminds you of Chitrahaar on Doordarshan. The family saga episodes frustrate and irritate you and it feels like you are watching a never ending telugu soap on a 70mm screen. As I was writing this review, I somehow recollected Sunil's dialogue from Khaleja - "Anni bad le kaadu good lu kuda untayi". So the "good"s - The interval bang is one of the best episodes and MB excels, delivers a stunning performance - What the audience had been craving for till then. Post interval Samantha pumps the energy level. It's like drinking Glucon-D. But the energy lasts only for few moments and onscreen tiredness seeps in. The travel episodes and the urge to find your roots, your seven generations is shown in a novel but a tedious way.
The movie snail paces towards the climax. Did the end credits roll? No wait a min, the climax is still going on, the family's getting united, Rao Ramesh is still confessing, Ppl around him are praising Mahesh, the aunts are still crying, there's already a pool of tears on the floor etc etc. Admist all this hungama, MB's act stands out. If not for him, PVP wouldn't even have recovered 10% of his total expenditure. Dialogues take a little time to understand. You need to be attentive. The screenplay bores you, but the dialogues seek your attention. That's like revenge on the audience.
Coming to the artistes, (yeah there were scores of them), Rao Ramesh bagged yet another classy role. He's filling in his dad's shoes very well. Addala always has a special role for him in his heart and in his movies. Revathi, Jayasudha and Satya raj put in a decent act. The others are just wasted. Naresh, Siyaji Shinde, Tulasi etc hardly have couple of dialogues to mouth. Vennela Kishore manages to evoke few laughs, he is shown to be in total sync with the current audience mindset. All the 3 damsels were cute.Romance between Kajal and MB got monotonous after few episodes. Chemistry between Sam and MB was more bewitching. Pranitha - oh yeah, she was there too, just there. Mickey's music was ok but BGM was much better. Too many songs spoiled the movie's broth
Mukunda, SVSC, Kotta Bangaru Lokam were a true testament of Addala's potential. He had the niche for portraying human emotions beautifully on the silver screen. Even though Mukunda bombed it was a decent watch. But Brahmotsavam ends up as a total bummer. Addala couldn't weave his band and re-create his magic, MB couldn't save the movie from sinking deep into the flop bed of telugu cinema and Audience couldn't help zandu-balming themselves.
If Aagadu was an evil twin brother of Dookudu, Brahmotsavam's an evil twin sister of SVSC !!! So chudanivallu pandaga chesukondi...Do grand festival !!!
A Aa (2016)
A...Aa - Andam...Anandam !!!
'Navvadam oka bhogam, Navinchadam oka yogam' quoted the famous writer and director Jandhyala garu. His movies were epitome of entertainment and he had the skill to pen for both commercial and art movies with equal nonchalance making him one of the best film makers in the history of TFI. After his demise, every telugu movie lover hungrily awaited for his cinema heir. Enter Trivikram, a post grad in Nuclear physics who introduced 'prasa' into our lives so much so that 'Praasa lekunda pallu kuda tomukovatledu yedavalu'. His movies have become a part and parcel of our lives. His dialogues are heard in our living room, his lines are improvised by lovers in their attempts to woo their beloved ones and his buzz words (in movies) are commonly used among friends. Yep, Maa Tv needs to be given some credit for this. But you gotto agree this man is pure genius.
A aa is Trivikram's 8th movie as director. By casting Nithin, our Maatalu Mantrikudu Trivikram surely did raise some eyebrows - Sahasame seyshadu ra dimbaka. But Nithin has given his career best performance. We always had to pause, rewind and play multiple times to understand his dialogues. He used to mouth them at 10 wps (words per second). Trivikram made sure that his lines thru Nithin were well understood and enjoyed by the audience. Samantha - cuteness overload. After Jessi in YMC, she makes us fall in love with her all over again with such adorable expressions that I'm running out of adjectives describing her without going over the 21+only line. Next beauty - Anupama Parameshwaran - the bubbly Premam gal. She puts in a commendable act in A..Aa and is definitely here to stay. At one point in TFI, if people discussed about Mallu beauties it was either Shobana or Shakila both from different perspectives. But times have changed and there are lot of decent mallu actresses zooming their way into TFI. My review wouldn't be complete without the mention of one fine artiste - Rao Ramesh. A..Aa's one of Rao Ramesh's supreme performance and Trivikram pens superb lines for him. He makes you laugh at his antics and scoff at his character at the same time. Absolute bliss. Nadiya, Naresh, prema pavuralu Praveen, Hari Teja (Mangamma) etc contribute equally to the proceedings. Srinivas Avasarala was totally wasted. It was sad to see such a good actor in an insignificant role. There's no Brahmi in this movie. Yep pinch me and pinch yourselves. It's true.
Music by Mickey is run-of-the-mill although a couple of songs stand out. 1st half of the movie is breezy. Trivikram keeps you engaged and entertained to the core. Joke, joke, joke and bam second half hits you. This is where Trivikram loses his plot and the story drags and drags. Obviously, when you have a wafer thin plot, it becomes tough to keep the audience engrossed for close to 2 hrs. The story also has shades of Attarintiki Daredi as well. Trivikram needs to come out of AD hangover and focus a little more on the storyline in addition to the ample entertainment which he is always known for.
After a tedious 2nd half, climax descends upon and Trivikram weaves his magic wand again. He ensures that you step out of the auditorium with a smile on your lips. In commercial terms, A..aa brings in a breath of fresh air to TFI after a disastrous summer with two biggies biting the dust.
Finally it's A..Aa (titles) to AahaaaaAAA (end credits) !!! Enjoy it with your family and friends.
Kabali (2016)
K A B A L I - A song of fire and ice !!!
Shivaji Rao Gaekwad aka RAJNI the numero Super Star of Indian Cinema. Charisma is his definition and Style is his representation; that raw magnetism seduces scores of people into thronging the theaters across the globe. To top, his simplicity and earthy nature have augmented his ever growing fan base. No wonder, his movies were used as a case study to analyze the business of Indian cinema.
Kabali is Pa Rajnith's 3rd directorial venture. He sure did taste success with his first two outings. Rajni is at his stylish best in Kabali. Pa Ranjit needs to be lauded undoubtedly for showcasing Rajni in such a sleeky classy way. The way Rajni is presented with thumping BGM sure gives you goose bumps and instantly raises decibel levels in the auditorium. Adrenaline pumping, electrifying, Pure Rajni delirium. Rajni's acting is top notch and is a discourse for all the current gen and upcoming artistes. Thaliava daa !!
When you have a super star like RAJNI, half the battle is already won. The other half depends on how well you have unfolded the story. Pa Ranjit miserably fails in this aspect. The narration is dead slow even for a passionate moviegoer. Even a snail would have crawled faster. I could hear the seconds hand ticking on my watch. "Wtf, this is Rajni's movie dude. Don't do this Pa Ranjit" whined my Rajni frenzy mind and continued it's love-hate relationship with the director. There are so many scenes which could have been chopped off on the editing table. Also, to bring out the right emotions in a drama, you need to cast the right folks. Except for Thailava, Radhika Apte and Winston Chao all the other supporting cast were not up to the snuff. Music by Santosh Narayan is superb and Neruppu Da (I luv the tamil version) has already topped the chart busters and continues to enthrall music lovers around the world as I write about it. BGM impresses in bits.
Someone told me that a picture is worth a thousand words....so here's Kabali graph /\___^^___/\ - The first 15 min movie sky rockets, then crashes like the stock market during a recession, next for a few blocks in between wakes you up from slumber and gives you the much required kick and finally the last 15 min provide you a proper adieu. Rest all is Hum Ka'Bali'. Neruppu Da gets dampened due to the icy cold storyline.
Kabali was made for the love of a man. (fyi, 'For the love of a man' is a documentary made in 2015 exploring Rajni's craze). It's a decent attempt to showcase Rajni's trademark style and niagara the auditorium with his aura. Better focus on story and narration could have fully satiated the audience. If you have enough patience to remain idle in the dark for over an hr in an auditorium filled with hundreds of like minded fans, then try not to miss this one for RAJNI. PS: If you are uncertain of handling the in between 'bali', then the teaser is the best option. You can watch it umpteen times on youtube !!
Jyo Achyutananda (2016)
Jyoachutananda, Go Go Mukunda, Cinema paramananda, bore govinda !!!
A tall lanky guy with his stretched long legs as his first shot on a 70mm screen - It was Avasarala's intro in TFI (Ashta Chamma). From that moment, those legs never had to take a step back and steadily the ingenious director Avarasala emerged. His directorial debut Oohalu Gusa Gusalade appealed to everyone and showcased his brilliance in wielding the megaphone. A successful artiste director, a rare breed to find in Tollywood.
JA - Avasarala's 2nd venture is a simple and sensible middle class bromance with ample witty situational comedy and deep emotional content. Nara Rohit and Naga Shourya as brothers are a treat to watch. Both play their roles to perfection. This is Rohit's best till date. Looks wise, he's still the Mr Namitha of Tollywood but he eases into his role so much that you end up noticing only Achyut Rama Rao on screen. Naga Shourya does an amazing job as the younger one. He has a great screen presence and delivers a majestic performance in both comic and emotional episodes. Regina looks bubbly in parts and does her bit. The other artistes mould well into the storyline. Music by Kalyan Ramana (he might have scored music for 10+ movies and changed his name for half of them) is good, 'Oka lalana' by Shankar Mahadevan had already topped the charts and will be in the loop for music lovers for the next few years.
Screenplay by Avasarala stands out. Not many know that has a diploma in screenplay from University of CA. He beautifully narrates without confusing the audience as the screenplay he chooses for the first few min is intricate. Also, Avasarala himself pens the dialogues, so you can expect gut busting one liners and he delivers. The only complaint I had was that the 2nd half was a tad slow. Avasarala needs to be appreciated for his effort to come up with different storylines in this clinched beaten to death world of Tollywood scripts and also kudos to Vaarahi for funding both his projects.
The intoxicating smell of earth when it's about to rain, the brush of early afternoon breeze along the sea coast, the zing of plain fried groundnuts, the sound of gushing waterfalls, the sight of fall colors in autumn and movies directed by Srinivas Avasarala share the same aura. A bit extravagant? Yep, maybe it is but a few more movies down the line and you'll agree for sure.
As the lights turn on and you slowly step out of the auditorium, you get the satisfaction of watching a good telugu movie. At last Bapu-Ramana, K Balachander have found their disciple.
Khaidi No. 150 (2017)
Khaidi 150 - 'Tollywood ka Baap' IS BACK !!!
Evarina chustiuntara nadiche nakshatrani
Eduroste egapadipora nene aa chitrani
Ne pandistuna rythunai chirunavvu thotalini
Paripalistuna rajunai koti gundela kotalni....
Indeed, a fitting tribute from Seetharama Sastry garu to the undisputed King of Telugu cinema - Megastar Chiranjeevi. He's one of the very few Indian movie heroes who can set cash registers ringing even with average contents. SS Rajamouli once candidly said in an interview - "To make a good movie, you need a good subject. But to make a blockbuster movie, you start with a Star". For close to 3 decades, Telugu cinema had its star, whose stardom rose to the pinnacle and at the same time had the nation sit back and take notice of Telugu movie stamina. If NTR had put telugu pride on the national map, then it was Chiranjeevi who put TFI into the national league with this movie collections.
Khaidi 150 is Chiru's own definition of one man show. You can see a 'Idar ka maal udar' Auto Johnny, 'Rough aadinche' Rajaram, 'Cheppaliani undi Gonthu vippaliani undi' Suryam and so on. He's brought his panache, his impeccable comic timing and his emotional dialogue delivery back with him after 10 long yrs. Only Jr NTR in Adhurs and Mahesh in Khaleja have come any closer to matching his timing in comedy. In Khaidi 150, Chiru with Brahmi and Ali keeps you entertained all along. Remember - Chamaku chammaku cham song from Kondaveeti Donga? There's a dance step choreographed by our Sundaram master where Chiru just wipes out his sweat using a napkin from his pocket. Quite graceful. There's plenty of that offered in Khaidi 150. No, not sweat. Its grace, you silly. Also, there's a cameo from Kajal in addition to Vinayak's and Charan's. She's in 3 songs and only songs. Kudos to DSP who elevates every frame with his thumping BGM and yes it's a known fact most of the songs are now heard more than the honks during traffic snarls in both the Telugu states. Dialogues by Sai Madhav and Parchuri Brothers are okay. Tarun Arora the antagonist is no match to our Khaidi and is probably the weakest link. All the other technicians have put in dedicated efforts to make this venture a grand memorable success.
I haven't seen the original Katthi but the basic plot by Murgadoss seems to be pretty ordinary. VV Vinayak stuck to the original but added all ancillary elements for a commercial potboiler - pinch of comedy, tablespoon of tragedy, ounces of oomph similar to what I once did in my Chemistry lab during school days with real chemicals. I got kicked out but Vinayak is being heaped with accolades for reel chemicals. Logic goes for a big toss. Sometimes, you can stand in the theater and laugh out loudly for the onscreen bloopers. They are so easy to catch like Pokémon. If you are an ardent Chiru fan you would ignore them, if not you would post memes on FB. You are free to choose your side.
So, made up your minds? Wanna watch the Return of the King? You can - without any qualms. Mundane story, few boo-boo's here and there and mass masala elements might throw you off - A sweet warning.
Arjun Reddy (2017)
My take on AR !!
By now, around 100% of you might have watched the latest telugu movie called Arjun Reddy. 70-80% have liked it and around 20-30% have been nagging, mocking and loathing it in various platforms either because of religious bigotry or cultural divide or their teeny tiny brain can't comprehend on how to watch a movie or total lack of movie sense or sheer stupidity or some other BS. Whatever may be the reason, I'm not going to butter up here and profess that yeah, people have different tastes kind of mundane stuff. Arjun Reddy is raw, bold and intense story telling criterion. It mocks the age old commercial format in telugu cinema and razors every conventional way of story telling in TFI.
Here are some specific scenes and details which I adored in Arjun Reddy. These are a true testament to Sandeep Reddy Vanga's capability as a narrator. And btw, who's Vijay Devarakonda? I only saw Arjun Reddy setting screen on fire :). Absolute brilliance.
Scene 1 - Holi Fight: One of the best confrontation scenes between two characters. Pure adrenaline rush. Arjun creates the required impact thru his angry tears after that 'angerorgasm'. Shalini expressing her love, Amit's promise after flashing his ego and Arjun's victory all have been etched exquisitely into one episode.
Scene 2 - Interval bang: It was a WTF moment in a spellbinding way. The way the scene shifts from 'the spread on the bed' to the glaring title with blood dispersed in background is too good for a telugu movie. Such nuances make movie watching enthralling.
Scene 3 - Shalini's minor injury: Arjun gets injured by a piece of glass on the floor. He tries to pluck it out and the scene cuts to Arjun's friend removing a piece of glass from Shalini's leg in the flashback. Again, this is one more deftly crafted episode. Amazing screenplay overall.
Scene 4 - Football fight: Amit abuses and hits Arjun. And how does Arjun respond? He first smashes the referee who had fixed the match, then goes on with Amit. Not instantaneous. Well thought and controlled outburst like a fusion in a nuclear reactor.
Scene 5 - Shalini trying to calm down Arjun (6 hrs deadline): After the big fight with Shalini's dad, Arjun's arrogance and attitude comes out in brute force. His BP could have broken the sphygmomanometer. Shalini's tries her best to calm him down, soothe Arjun in every possible way. Does Arjun come back to his senses? Hell, No. This is Arjun Reddy. His characterization is linear throughout (always in the peaks). He still reminds Shalini of the deadline and storms away.
Scene 6 - Arjun snorting coke before trial: This is a direct lift from Denzel Washington's Flight. But what stands out is the BGM composed for this episode by Radhan. As Arjun snorts and gets high on coke, audience do get the same high curtsy BGM.
So, what are you still waiting for? If you are true movie lover (keeping aside all your religious and cultural limitations) go watch it again and again and get absorbed into the riveting world of Arjun Reddy. Welcome to new age Telugu cinema !!!
Mahanati (2018)
Mahanati - Aakasa Veediilo Andala Jabili !!!!
May 9, 2018 - Remember JVAS from Vjyanthi movies banner? It was released on the same day 28 years ago. It went on to create history. As they say, history repeats itself and boy, it surely does !!
Anaganaganaga, there was this cute little girl with very expressive eyes who went on to achieve stardom at a very early age. She defined charisma, embezzled viewer's hearts and trekked her way to the pinnacle of Telugu cinema with aplomb. After decades, some one had the guts to make a biopic and walk us thru the journey of her life.
I was drawn into admiring Nag Ashwin after his Yevade Subramanyam. Always felt that he was unique and sensible as a director. And now, with Mahanati, he has propelled into the next league. He deserves kudos and hurrahs for elegantly narrating the life of an immortal actress. Through out the 172 odd minutes, you can't help but fathom how much effort he and his team have put in to bring us this masterpiece.
Keerthy Suresh - Note thy name. It surely deserves a page in the history of Telugu cinema. She acts....naah, she breathes as Savithri on-screen and mesmerizes everyone with her innocence, stubbornness and subtleness and takes us on an emotional roller coaster ride of Savitri's life, on and off screen. Simply terrific !! There's one episode at the climax of Aha Na Pellanta (Mayabazaar) song which I want to talk about. The transformation from Sasirekha to Ghatotkacha was portrayed exquisitely by Keerthy. But there's one shot when Sasirekha comes back as herself and then goes to rest on the bed. Keerthy couldn't simply match the elegance of Savithri. There, that's the difference and that brings us back to realization that its Keerthy and not Savitri herself on the screen. Until that minute and later, you are immersed into believing that Savitri has descended and has don the grease paint one more time for us.
Dulqer Salman as GG or 'Kadhal Mannan' puts in an impressive show. Every time, he calls Keerthy as 'Ammadi', you can hear teenage girls blush and whisper awe, and throw in bunch of cuteness synonyms in your mind. His chemistry with Keerthy was adorable.
Vijay and Samantha's track was decent but you keep on waiting for it to get over and move on to Savitri's track. Not that they were bad, but Keerthy overshadows everyone. Sam shines at the climax and mouths some well written lines by Sai Madhav Burra. ANR by Chaitanya was passable, digitized NTR was bad and Mohan Babu couldn't match SVR's charisma. Jr NTR should have played NTR. Would have been truly wonderful to watch.
Mickey J Meyer deserves a special mention for songs and BGM. Sadaa Nannu and Mooga manasulu have been playing in loop for a while now. The sepia filter tone used to depict 80's by Dani Sanchez felt sometimes good, sometimes annoying. Rest of the details were captured beautifully. He was the Marcus Bartley for this one.
One of the best movies made on real life characters that I have seen is Iruvar. Mahanati stands next to it. There have been and will be many 'nati' s in TFI but there will be one and only one MAHANATI - Savithri garu. Thank you Nag Ashwin for this visual poetic tribute to a legendary actress !!
Achari America Yathra (2018)
Total waste of time.
Total BS. Don't understand how these directors come up with such crap.
1 - Nenokkadine (2014)
1 - Nenokaddine - It's one of a kind for a telugu movie!!!
Kudos to Mahesh, Sukumar and 14 reels for daring to chose and execute an offbeat genre in the commercial world of Telugu cinema. 1-Nenokadine is daringly different, eccentric but worth appreciating!!
Telugu Cinema has most of the times been routine and more focused in terms of monetary benefits so craftsmanship had always taken a beating. Protagonists with large than life image, heavy doze of entertainment quotient and a happy ending was always the perfect recipe. One doesn't go by this formula.
Sukumar a mathematician turned director has come up with a simple world problem with little complex steps of solving it. He interlays multiple elements of narration prudently and pulls of an intricate screenplay easily. He's really one of the intelligent directors and a craftsman to watch out for!! Mahesh as 'rock star' looks stunning. His characterization has various shades and he admirably underplays and dominates wherever aptly required. Gautham - the new crowned PRINCE (as per the titles) is very cute and puts in a good performance. Kriti is just OK and oozes the oomph factor. BGM by Devi deserves special credit although some of the songs are in his conventional style. Yes true to the flak being received, there are few loopholes in the plot so this movie isn't completely flawless and it may end up as a confusing one for the common moviegoer.
1-Nenokadine is NOT an 'Open banana, put in mouth' kind of a movie, so watch it only if you have an appetite for non-commercial, sensible and unconventional movies.
