The Idea of You (2024)
Disappointing
First off - whoever wrote the "Spoilers" portion of the "Trivia" section clearly NEVER read the book. The main character (Solene) did NOT in any way allude to using Hayes for sex. Not at all. And what the heck did she "recline" about? Not only didn't they read the book, but they didn't bother to reread their own spoiler.
Anyway, regarding this movie. Solene was never sexually aggressive at the outset. That was what made their relationship so unique. She's an older, mature, professional woman not some horny groupie/fan. From that point on you lost me.
The acting is fine but the vibe is rushed and pointless. I know that screenplays & books are more often than not forced to be different, but when you immediately change the whole personality of the primary characters, that really is insulting and demeaning to both the reader and the viewer.
Too bad - it might've been a winner.
The Brothers Sun (2024)
Give us MORE!!
Original (yet, not) , funny, crazy, fabulous fighting, remarkable characters, and a terrific soundtrack made this one of the best series' I have seen in years. I just didn't want the damn thing to end. It was everything an action film should have, including a heart.
Not gonna get into specifics or spoilers because there's really no reason to ruin something so good. You will know after the first 20 minutes if it's for you or not (but please stick with it anyway). It is the absolute definition of streaming episodic programming. I just wished there were 20 of them instead of 8.
Oh yeah - one other fabulous throwback - GYMKATA!!
Gojira -1.0 (2023)
No other like it
More than simply a "Godzilla" film - this is a movie about people working together through conflict, insecurities, frustration, and their fears for the greater good. But it's also an amazing depiction of Godzilla in all of his radiant glory.
The acting is heartfelt, serious not smarmy or campy. The script is genius in taking everything we know about this incredible character and adding backstories to complement the history. And the CGI is breathtaking in every single, terrifying image.
I thought I'd seen it all when it came to Godzilla. Till now. Please give this movie a chance. You won't regret it.
Peppermint (2018)
Go get 'em
I didn't know what to think of this movie since I didn't remember it ever being released. My mistake.
A ton of action, terrific performances (especially from Garner), and the perfect movie to watch when I'm working out. And while I'm on topic, Jennifer Garner can hold her own with Willis, Arnold, Stallone and any other male action stars because, unlike them - she can actually act.
Give us more!!!!!
Lifeguard (1976)
Dated & just plain bad
Like a lot of Boomers I saw this movie when it came out in '76 and thought it was so cool. That was then....
The dialogue is terrible, the acting is passable, and the story is horrible. I made myself sit through it today and kept yelling at the TV because I could not believe something this bad was ever released. And made any money!
Many films that were released decades ago have held up well - this isn't one of them.
