Racing Stripes (2005)
Lets Cheer for Stripes!
Racing Stripes
Story: 9 Characters: 7 Acting: 9 Overall: 7 out of 10
Story: You don't see a movie every week about a racing zebra. I have never even heard of one, until I heard about Racing Stripes. I was saying, "You got to be kidding me! This film will be ridiculous!" That was when I thought Hollywood ran out of ideas, and this film was going to be another Babe (no offense but I can never stay awake during Babe). When I actually had the guts to see the film, I realized that the story was creative and original. The good thing about the story was that its pace changed. One moment the girl and her dad have a talk, which would really bore some little kids. Then instead of really boring little kids, they add something exciting and funny, which was good because then little kids would get back into the excitement of the film. I loved both of the races in the film. Actually, as a horse racing freak, I would love any horse race in a film but this time it made me want to stand up and cheer (like in Seabiscuit). I loved how they planned how the races would go so that Stripes wouldn't be in the front and make you say, "He is going to win". Instead they either make him in the middle or the back so it makes you say, "Come on Stripes!" The film was funny at times too.
Characters: I am disappointed with some of the characters. Stripes was a great main character. He could be stubborn at one moment then happy at the next. He is determined to be a so called 'race horse' and will do everything that he can to become one. He has a rival, which makes it even better and a girlfriend too. Tucker and Franny made a great team by always insulting each other or fighting. I actually think, for anyone that wanted no potty humor, Tucker and Franny have to be the two characters that have nothing to do with it. Now, why did I give the characters rating a seven? Do two annoying talking CGI flies ring a bell in your head? Their names are Buzz and Scuzz. They ruin the whole film. The only reason that they where in the movie was to try not to bore little kids by obnoxious potty humor jokes. Here was a decent movie that was trashed right in the middle of the second half when the flies came in. All of their belching and farting didn't work on the little kids in the theater. Instead, it only worked on this man that was sitting by me. When the flies sang their stupid songs, kids would burst out laughing. In my opinion, they where stupid no matter what they tried to do and completely ruined the film.
Acting: Even though I am sick of Frankie Muinz, he pulled the voice of Stripes off very well, that also goes to Mandy Moore who played Sandy, Stripes girlfriend. Actually everyone did a good job, especially Hayden Panettire who acting gave out a fantastic performance. Bruce Greenwood, helped the film be a little more dramatic and played a fine Kentucky like cowboy.
Overall: Everyone in the family will enjoy this film! I highly recommend it!
National Treasure (2004)
THIS MOVIE IS A TREASURE!!!!!
This is one of those films that I will think is bad, but when I see it, I come out of the movie theater liking it. I still don't see why critics pounded on this movie. Most of the excuses where because of the DeVinci Code. can see why the movie would relate to it but it has differences. DON'T LISTEN TO THESE DUMB CRITICS!
I loved the acting in the film. Nicholas Cage and Diane Kruger did a fantastic job and I HAVE to give the best of all acting to Justin Bartha. He made the movie fun and added some laughs. Sean Bean makes a GREAT bad guy too!
I am a total History nut so I enjoyed watching a American History related movie. At the end, the whole film came together!
I could go on for hours about this movie (I am planning to see it my 2nd time). It is a great flick and even when other people on here have thought it was a kiddie flick, I think only because of Riley (Justin Bartha) because when things got serious, he says one line and poof! It becomes funny. I think the film is for maybe 10+. My 8 year old sister saw it and didn't understand the story. I thought it was a little too over a younger child's head. There were some bomb explosions and enough gun shooting and a car chase. Some of the scenes may frighten some little kids.
See this movie instead of the other films like The Polar Express and Christmas with the Kranks. And DON'T LISTEN TO THOSE DUMB HARSH REVIEWS PEOPLE ARE SAYING!!!!!! Listen only to the good ones! Trust me, this one is WORTH the spending!

Samantha: An American Girl Holiday (2004)
Good Film....but not the best
I have never been a Samantha fan really. I loved Felicity (and soon liked Kit. My sister is a long time Samantha series fan though.
We were both excited to get the American Girl catalog for Winter 2004 and opened it up to get an ad for the new Samantha movie. I marked it on my calender for November 23 and my sister put the DVD on her Christmas list. Little did we know that we would be a little disappointed.
Samantha: An American Girl Holiday is about a girl named Samantha who be-friends three servant girls, after Samantha moves up to New York City with her Uncle Guard and his new bride Cornilia, she finds out that the three servant girl's father died and were sent off to an orphanage there in New York City! Soon Nellie (who is one of the servent girls she be-friends and becomes best friends with) tells Samantha that she might be sent on the orphan train to somewhere else, but without her two younger sisters! Samantha tries to help Nellie and her two sisters, but there would be consequences!
One thing that bugged me was through 1 hour and 30 minutes, there was nothing related to Christmas! NOTHING! Zero-zip-zilch! 1 hour and 50 MINUTES into the movie and there was nothing about Christmas except the fact that they were starting to talk about Christmas.
AnnaSophia Robb didn't do her best. She had her moments when she acted Samantha out really well, and then she had her moments...well most of the movie....when she did a horrible job acting out Samantha.
Mia Farrow made Grandmary much sweeter and much younger. I did not stick with that fact.
The movie was good, and it had its moments like when Nellie steals Eddie's money jar and on Sunday at church, Samantha dumps all of the money (coins) on the little offering tray. I could not bear the factory scene for what happened to the little boy happened to one of my mom's friends when she was little.
As a result, my sister was disappointed. I asked her if she wanted to buy it on DVD and she said that she would have to watch it again on Thanksgiving and make up her mind then. Good film! And this is not for American Girl people (like me) only! It is not like some film where you have to read the books or watch the prequels to understand the movie. Anybody can watch it. It brings out the next generation of AG!
The Wonderful World of Disney: Tower of Terror (1997)
The Tower of Terror is a winner
I was bored yesterday and decided to watch Disney Channel when a movie was starting. The Tower of Terror was on and I had never seen it. Since the first couple of minutes I was hooked to it and I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. The beginning reminded me of Seabiscuit with all of the beautiful outfits and the 1930's setting (all before the elevator scene). Tower of Terror is about two people....Anna (Kirsten Dunst!) and Buzzy who get involved in a old...old curse and want to help 5 ghosts out that needed to get to the 12th floor of the Hollywood Tower Hotel for a party on Halloween 1939. When the group of people get on in 1939, they disappear when they get stuck on the 11th floor. Every year it is the same...they will never be able to go to the 12th floor because no one is there to help them. Now Anna and Buzzy have to help the ghosts get to the 12th floor on Halloween night and try to help break the curse on the elevator. It is truly a good movie and is full of suspense, especially during the beginning of the film like when Sally's (i think thats the little girl's name) ghost appears and little green rain falls down. The special effects were good. The acting was great. The plot was nice too. One of Disney's better films. I recommend it for families to watch on Halloween.
The Cheetah Girls (2003)
No cheers for the Cheetahs
My younger sister is obsessed with this film. I believe she owns all of the books and sad enough she even owns the DVD. I can't stand it. The only good thing about the film is that Disney actually made this look like a (cheesy) movie at the theater. It was in wide-screen (which was nice) and it looked well made, but it wasn't.
Plot is simple, 4 girls want to be pop stars and turn down an offer of a lifetime. Very, very original... Yeah RIGHT!
I thought the end of the movie was cheesy about the dog getting stuck in that hole (or whatever the heck it is) and then the whole city freaking out (common it is NYC!) and the news reporters are freaking out about the crisis. It was on the dramatic side. The girls started to sing to get the dog out which was VERY unrealistic. Most of the movie was UNREALISTIC. When would a talent show have fancy spotlights that are shaped in spots and stuff? The names are too dramatic like Galleria (all I know is that is the name of a mall in Houston) and Chanel. The storyline is so boring and WAY too predictable. Raven is on of my favorite actresses and she didn't do a very good job of acting. That dumb "C'mon" has NO lyrics but "C'mon, C'mon!" and is annoying. When the girls reunite, they are all wearing the same clothes.Suddenly the LIVE news becomes a music video. The street suddenly becomes a stage and the guitars are never plugged in!
It is fun to watch and make fun of when you're bored. If this movie is about to come on, change the channel and you can save some of your precious time.
Ready to Run (2000)
Applause!
Before Seabiscuit, there was the talking horse- no not Mr. Ed- TJ from Ready to Run. It had to be my favorite horse racing movie besides National Velvet. But Disney channel has stopped showing it alot so I haven't seen it in awhile. But I see it on Derby day. This was a fantastic movie and perfect for the horse lover. Though the talking horse and listening to the music while racing was not that creative. It has great music, kinda strange for a horseracing movie, and pretty horses! I give this movie: 8 out of 10
