Beyond (2014)
It's a relationship drama with two people, and nothing else (mild spoilers without giving much away)
As others pointed out, the tag line is more than misleading. This movie is not about survival, it's not a science fiction movie. It is about a couple and their complicated relationship and mostly normal stuff: Having a child or not, having no job, being from two different classes, the role of the man today, etc. There is some SF setting in the background, but it doesn't affect the story at all - it could be replaced by anything or just left out without making a difference.
I liked parts of this movie anyway, because it was very character- and dialog driven, and mostly interesting, and compared to other movies in this genre and budget, it was well done. Especially the actors did a great job, but so did everybody else involved.
But one aspect was really bad: Everybody watching this movie will probably be suspicious about what is going to happen, thinking something like "... but they can't just copy the XYZ ending, right?" - and then they do it. The timing was kind of a surprise, but what happened was uber-cliché. If it was something small, okay, but if the whole movie is about this one twist, then the twist should be at least original and not that famously used by others before.
Conclusion: The actors rescued this movie. Their performance was outstanding, and if you want to see some relationship drama that's only about two people, then you'll probably enjoy it. Most people will watch this movie because they expect science fiction, and they will be disappointed. There is just no science fiction.
If you've seen the other movie that obviously "inspired" this one A LOT (there are more than one, but one had really 99% the same ending), you'll shake your head a lot.
Lost Time (2014)
Painful to watch - Looks like a short was blown up to 4-6 times it length
This was one of the worst 2-3 movies I have ever seen, and I've seen a lot. And sadly, this is no overstatement.
Short version: It REALLY looks like they took a bad 10-15 minute short, and blew it up to the length it has now. And this is not a cute way to describe the quality, but probably what *really* happened here.
Long version: After seeing it, I was asking myself two questions: What were they even going for, what was this supposed to be? And why did nobody stop them and why didn't they at least try to improve it?
And to me, it seems obvious, that at some point they did become aware of the fact, that they can't rescue it, and went into "lets get it over with" mode, and they did the worst thing possible: They made countless "playing for time" shots to get the length: Without plot, dialog, action, effects or *anything* happening.
Additionally they tried to take the mystery ("what did really happen?") route, but at the same time, everybody - the audience and all characters - know what happened from the beginning. While the characters try to find out "what happened", they literally say what happened.
Lost Time could have been a more or less good 10 minute short. What were they thinking? There were established actors and crew involved, why didn't they stop this madness? I can't stress this enough: Most parts really look like they were made on one weekend literally without any screenplay with the objective "we need another 45 mins, and we need it as cheap and fast as possible".
The Cure (2014)
An interesting idea, that was completely destroyed by brainless characters
This movie had so much potential: A scientist discovers that her employer has the cure for cancer, but doesn't sell or publish it, because he makes more money by not curing it.
The science of this movie is ridiculous in every possible aspect, but that's not the bad part. What kills this movie is the fact, that every single character is just beyond stupid: At one point 3 PhDs discover a very small explosive device (perhaps 20g) with a 15 minute timer in their lab, close to a virus container. Nothing stops them from just moving it to another room, away from the container, behind a desk etc. But they don't. Instead they nearly die trying to get into hazmat suits in time.
Another thing that happens over and over again: Every door in the building is locked, because their key codes are disabled. They act seriously surprised every single time and never take the codes from the bad guys.
Characters in movies often do stupid things, story lines often have minor flaws, usually no big deal. But The Cure makes it really hard not spending the entire time shaking your head in disbelief: All the "good guys" are standing right outside... why wouldn't they just open the window and go out or scream for help? It was still an entertaining movie, mostly because the female lead did a very good job, and it was well produced. But at a certain point the logic and character flaws made watching just painful.
