One of the better movies I've seen this year
8 March 2005
Warning: Spoilers
One thing to remember is that this is a movie where the essence lies in intelligent plot-twists. A lot of people have criticized it's jumpy-style of MTV cutting and flashy style.

In my opinion this was better than just an MTV monster-metal video, as it raised a lot of existential questions which few people seem to have thought of seeing it. Also its pure gore and suspense was at maximum.

So what drives us to do obscene and morally corrupt things and what does make them OK in the context? This is hard to answer and makes the movie more terrifying in my opinion.

Is the serial just a symbol for the net in which we all are stuck? Maybe not, but I thought about that, maybe Wan did to.

The third most disturbing thing is that the "brain" was in the room the whole time.

The fourth disturbing fact is that WE two are, since we're the voyeurs as much as the serial and the character "Zep". In a cinematic kind of view we're part of this until the bitter end. Maybe it US the killer is trying to please ;) A gruesome movie (in a good way). With some overdone things here and there (cutting and directing in general), but considering this to be a débutante this is extremely promising. Another negative thing may be it's similarities to other 90's movies, but I see this as contemporary. It's just a question of what we want to see. Seven was quite similar to a lot of other movies, so was Fight Club. As Oscar Wilde put it "an amateur loans but a true genius steals", just look at Star Wars (the old ones naturally), Matrix, Hitchcock and a lot of comedy writers/directors like the one of Shaun of the Dead - stealing from religions, philosophy, books, contemporary events and similar things.

The only thing apart from the acidous hummer in the movies which I thought was quite funny, was the man on the floor. If this would be put on a stage instead, like on Broadway, I would like to play him. It would be wonderful to lie down for two hours and earn a days salary, hahahahahaha.

Instrument (1999)
Wonderful

This may not seem like a documentary, but an art-movie at first, but actually it's more of a road-movie, compared to the standard Rock 'n' Roll documentaries

like Gimme Shelter, for example. The fragmentaric look may be hard for some

people to cope with, but actually it only cuts to the essence in my opinion, like Lars von Trier. I like this movie, but would like some scenes a little bit longer and some a lot shorter, but how could I say that to the director? Anyway, I like this movie for it's vivid, experimental tone, and naturally I like Fugazi, otherwise I don't think this is where one should start. When Guy Picciotto hangs

upsidedown from the basket case and sings I can't explain what I feel. Is it love? To bad that Fugazi is going to split up soon.

One of the best movies I've ever seen
11 September 2003
Beautiful, hard hitting, but still both simple and realistic. One of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. I saw it the first time in 1997 I think and I've seen it at least twenty times so far and it grows bigger every time. I love this movie and can't give any bad comments about it. Some amy say there are some

beautiful scenes here and some ugly scenes there, but I love it just like it is and it's hard to change that.

Firs, the the acting is excellent and the main character Rade Serbedzija does a wonderful work as a cynical, down-to-earth photographer, who knows he can't

escape his destiny and identity, Katrin Cartlidge does an equally impressive job, as well as a lot o the Macedonian bad and good guys of the film.

Secondly, the cinematography wonderfully depicts the harsh Macedonian

landscapes and sceneries, as well as the torn souls of the land. The music has the same impact and feels so natural with the cinematography.

Finally, I could never complaint about the directors excellent work. This was his debut if I'm not wrong and that was very promising, but I suppose this was his "Citizen Kane" and it'll probably be impossible to make anything similar.

One rarely sees anything from Macedonia. But this is not only good for

Macedonian cinema, it should have won the Oscar that year.

Best silent movie I've ever seen
11 September 2003
The best silent movie I've ever seen. It's so harrowing and perfectly describes the feelings I've had about death, life, love and especially hope. It's optimistic ending makes it even stronger. I cried when I saw this movie the first time, which was the day after my grandfather's death.

He once told me this was the first movie he ever saw, in a cinema, to which there was a 10 kilometers walk in the snow. The cinema used to be so crowded the humidity got so high the walls were completely wet. Naturally I had a lot in mind that day. It wasn't the first time I saw the movie, but the first time I experienced it's meaning completely. I've never seen any silent film like this and that it's silent actually makes it scarier.

The most Bombastic episode of the Muppets show so far?
8 September 2003
I can only give you my opinion, but it seems like it's going to drown amongst the superlatives others just wrote about this movie. I didn't find it that good. I like the books, but I see too many similarities with the special effects of the ones that are represented in the two latest Star Wars movies, which are completely made by computers. I don't like that. Nobody has realized that models combined with computer effects still can make the special effect look better and more real. There are a lot of impressive segments in the movie, BUT those are models or partially at least! Also, since the beginning of the franchise the character development has turned into a shallow action movie, which would be OK if it was as funny as Army of Darkness, but it's so obvious that this was meant to be the action movie and this is in fact not Army of Darkness. Who can take this movie seriously? It's on the verge of an overkill in the size of the one in the movie "Hero".

The only character which gets more vivid than ever is Gollum, who sounds and looks good, that is when he's sitting still. If you can't see that he is computer animated when he's moving with the two hobbits you should get new glasses right away, maybe in the size of Gollum's eyes. as in the last movie I like almost all the actors though. The war sequences are the best thing in the movie, but what the f**k, is that the most important thing? Then also the Ents are quite funny, probably the most Bombastic episode of the Muppets show so far?

I found this movie very entertaining, but far too much Hollywood. I like the limy Brits, but please, less bombastically delivered lines. All these Americans on New Zealand make feel like they'll stop by the 7 eleven or Burger King in the next part for a snack, cause that's what this movie is: fast food and instant entertainment. Nothing wrong in that, but with a couple of extra strokes with the brush it wouldn't be so obvious. 6/10
