Inconsistent performance by Rami Malek
10 December 2023
Everybody's praising Malek for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury. I don't know who Mercury was and how he acted, but I know for sure that Malek wasn't convincing playing that character. There were a few exceptions, scenes that were probably shot near the end of production, where he felt natural and authentic; but for the most part, his performance felt forced and amateurish. He looked like a young hyped-up actor eager to show off his imitation skills, with no real subtly and depth behind them. I like Rami Malek, I've watched a few of his other movies and I think he's a great actor. I blame production for this -- they probably did not give Rami enough time to prepare, or did not shoot enough takes, because they were in a rush? I still wonder what Sacha Baron Cohen would have done in his place. But yes, I felt the urge to submit this review to balance out all the people praising Malek's performance -- totally overrated and not up to par. The prosthetic teeth did not help, either. But this lip biting and cheek sucking was cringe, man. Please.

No one's gonna question Leticia's sexual acting up?
24 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Her son just died and suddenly she's acting like a pornstar with a total stranger? I am the only one who thinks this behavior is unlikely? Or is it that she also hated her son and felt relieved that she no longer had to deal with his fat ass? Either way, very repulsive. Poor boy was addicted to sweets in order to cope with being an abandoned son, and she abused him on top of that. And now she wanna make a new kid with Hank? Was her child the result of drunk sex? Curious who close to her died then. What a repulsive human being. Sorry to be judgmental, but this really triggered me. For me, that's not the meaning of "finding comfort". And don't get me started on Berry's oscar-worthy performance! She acted like a white person making a poor impression of a black person. And she didn't show any grief or regret, nothing! Just a blank stare. Again, was this intentional, or just bad acting? Very confusing character motivation. If it were more explicit, maybe I wouldn't have turned the movie off at that point. And don't get me wrong, the sex scene was hot!

Bo Burnham: Inside (2021 TV Special)

got bored tbh
8 June 2021
Great photography and lighting, but uhh... falling asleep already. The music pieces were too much for me, they were very repetitive and derivative of existing pop music that I'm already pretty much tired of. Best part of the special before I fell asleep -- the reaction video, made me laugh out loud, for sure. But Bo's gotta stop with the songs, they sound too similar and drag for too long. Also, okay, boomer, thanks for the PSA.

The Fanatic (2019)

Good, Mean-Spirited Fun!
9 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The movie was a fun suspenseful ride. Some scenes were incredibly creepy and funny at the same time. There's no necessarily good or evil characters -- the viewer decides that, themselves.

Travolta's performance was actually very believable. He respectfully plays an autistic middle-aged person, and whoever says it's over the top, or poking fun at the condition, doesn't really know what autism is. Travolta knows first-hand, he used to have an autistic son.

Character development: the way Moose's instability grows is very well-portrayed, unlike what we have in recently praised "Joker". Moose was charming and I could empathize with him without feeling sorry for him for being such a dumb loser (which was the case with "Joker", cringe all-throughout).

The final fight scene in "The Fanatic" was very realistically made - awkward and off-putting, with disturbing gore FX, put well in place. Reminded me of the violence in "Lords of Chaos" (truly disturbing scenes there). Hunter goes too far in his self-defense in a moment of rage. We see a human moment with him later regretting his violent behavior. You don't see such moments often in cinema. Usually the "good guy" has his violent revenge and the audience roots for him and that's that. Here, you feel sorry for both the perpetrator, and the victim.

The ending of "The Fanatic", being a bit of a twist, was in good taste. Hey, sometimes s**t happens, and as we have a saying here in Bulgaria, "God protects the crazies".

Venom re-imagined, good concept, entertaining
9 October 2018
I saw Venom last night. I had very low expectations and actually enjoyed it a lot!

I liked the overall concept and philosophy of the movie, as I understood it. In one scene, Eddy Brock was listening to an Eckhart Tolle audio book... meditation was also mentioned at one point. This primed me to interpret what was later happening in a quasi-Buddhist manner, as follows: the Symbiote is a metaphor for a toxic ideology, a memeplex that uses human brains as vehicles to live and replicate. Hence, the metaphor of eating human heads. The idea that your thoughts are your identity, and the ability to tell them apart. Hence, Eddy Brock not accepting Venom as his inner voice, and instead using the pronoun "we". Also, different ideologies suit different people, therefore the Symbiote was not compatible with all organisms, but only some. In the movie, the subjects most compatible with the alien were people susceptible to ideology - be it philosophical, religious, or political. In the other organisms, the Symbiote could not survive for long. The alien uses the human body and its mental abilities, as well, to reach its selfish ends, meanwhile making the body dependent, and exhausting its resources. This is what memeplexes do, too. An ideology in the brain of an intelligent and powerful person would make it grow faster, because he will propagate it in a more convincing way.

I liked the special effects and the creature designs. The fight between Venom and Riot was fascinating to watch. Even for a PG-13 rated movie, there was plenty of violence and it was well-presented.

Acting wise, Venom wasn't bad. Tom Hardy pulled off a likable anti-hero, with his human side very similar to Adam Sandler's characters. Riz Ahmed could have been more charismatic as an evil scientist, but he did the job well-enough. Michelle Williams was very good as the female protagonist, and her character had interesting perks and strengths that made her stand out. Scott Haze was a bit boring as the main thug, I'd prefer that he was a bit more brutal and rough.

What I didn't like about this movie were the countless plot holes that even a willing imagination could not fill. They were a bit distracting and pulled me out of the movie experience, but the directing was good enough to pull me back in.

I can't wait for the Director's Cut version where I hope to see some of the 40 minutes that had been cut from the theatrical release. Tom Hardy shared in an interview that his favorite scenes from the movie were removed from the final cut, so we have yet to see what they will deliver.

What about the bandages?
22 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The fat boy jumped into the water after being cut and bandaged... why didn't anyone stop him? And his bandages didn't fall off? Also, what happened to the floating kids in the end of the movie? The clown was disturbing, but he looked too clean, too sterile. The bully kid... did he get possessed at one point? How come he suddenly turned into an outright killer? The black boy... at one point we see him next to the well, exhausted after the fight with the bully; in the next shot, we see him in the sewers, running with the other kids. Other than that, this film was actually a pretty good thrill! The special effects were awesome, and it had some genuinely creepy moments. Spooked me a bit! What I liked the most is that "It" featured all different kinds of horror -- from jump scares and gore to suspense and disturbing creepyness.

Not scary one bit
5 September 2016
I just saw this movie for the first time, as a 29 years old adult. There was nothing scary about it. The gore was cheap and unrealistic. The situations were awkward. Some things are magically opened and pushed while there was nothing in the story that suggested supernatural forces. Is Myers possessed by a demon, or is he a psychopath? Is he immortal? The unknown can make a character creepier, but that's not the case with Michael, because he isn't well grounded in reality. I think this movie was a money-grabber when it came out. Carpenter is a brilliant director and this movie just doesn't feel like any of his other works. To those who haven't watched this as kids, trust me, it's not worth watching it now as adults. Go watch any other film by Carpenter.

Made Just For You
14 November 2009
You compromise good taste if you pay to see a crappy film just because it's a piñata full of eye-candy. Buying the ticket translates to "I want more of the same", which feeds the Hollywood anus to excrete more of the same unoriginal crap movies with offensively gigantic plot holes, and jokes that used to be funny in third grade. If you compromise a good story for beautiful special effects, you are automatically refusing to see a movie that has both a great plot and marvelous special effects. Yes, imagine if you had movies that had *both* of these elements. Well, you can't, because you are an easy to please idiot. I can't blame Hollywood; they manufacture what the market wants. You loved Transformers 2; they made it just for you. You waste your money on fecal matter and you've learned to enjoy swallowing it, because they put lots of butter on it.

Zebraman (2004)

this movie sucks
20 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a huge fan of Miike's work and I think he made this movie to mock at his usual audience. He knew one would think "wow, that sure will be some twisted interesting film" so he made the most-cliché movie ever instead of that. That's the thing I like about Miike, he always changes and surprises his fans. If we start with the vision - the movie has some interesting stuff shot. That's a plus for it. Even though the budget had been low, the work is done nice here. Except for the ALIENS - What the hell?! They reminded me of The Flabbers! The music sucked like a hooker. At one time I almost threw up. The plot is the worst part of the film. I almost fell asleep till the end. So stupid, so predictable... And where did all the super powers come to that loser teacher? We see him normal and after a second he has all the super punches and kicks and he even teaches himself to fly?!? And that handicapped kid and his mother. One would think that Zebraman is a pedophile, and then other would think that he cheats on his wife with the cripple's mother. The whole movie is pathetic. I wish I never watched it. I think even my dumb-ass brother who likes Virtual Rangers wouldn't like this Zebraman movie!

Halmat na borovinkite (2002 TV Movie)

Unoriginal and untrue.
4 May 2004
I am from Bulgaria and I'd like to say that the film is not linked to the reality in here. Everything is exaggerated and I think the movie is made just to lower Bulgaria's image in front of the world. The script writer has nothing Bulgarian in him. Nevertheless, Krustio Lafazanov ruled!

Bulgaria's movie industry is going nowhere, I don't see a difference between that movie and a Bulgarian movie before 10 years. Nothing's changed.

There were good movies in the past that had sense in them, although the budget had been low.
