Warning: Spoilers
I lived in Los Angeles in 1969. The counterculture, sexual revolution, and drug experimentation were in it's early stages. There was nothing self concious about that time or that place that said wow look at us except maybe a Mama and Pappas song. California was half conservative and everyone respected law and order and unless you had long hair and didn't want to get a regular job you fantasized about being a rock star or a movie star until you realized you had to get a job. It's obvious Tarantino wasn't there and knows nothing about it. In fact Tarantino is projecting his current postdated worldview and using his knowlege of the 1960s to create a self conscious movie that says 'look at me I'm Quentin Tarantino - look at the movie I've made'. Should you see this movie? Have twelve dollars and bored? Better yet read books about Hollywood. Few books have been written about Hollywood in the 60s. Most of them were written about before the 1960s.

Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed the revenge flick I Spit on Your Grave. The revenge killings were quite graphic more so than the rapes. I actually use movies like this to practice not reacting or becoming angry. The problem with revenge is it does not cure ptsd and if you get over ptsd you don't need revenge any longer. Emotions are our achilles heal. Conquer those and you've found salvation. The devil if you believe he exists makes most of the movies made these day. If the devil can scare you you aren't tough enough yet. BTW I've pulled out some of my teeth with pliers when money was tight.

We are all commodities
18 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This story is about a sexual young lady who gets used up by everyone she meets. Every man says they love her at the time and to her they seem to and she says so. If you are an attractive women you are a dream come true to sex addict men. If you are a wealthy man or a poor man sex is everything to you especially not having to go after it every night. This is a very good movie that teaches if you are not homeless you have use to someone which is really the truth few realize because it is too painful for most people. This movie will effectively destroy any delusions you may have about life. If she became a movie star at the end she would be all used up again. After all she was only 25. We are all of some use to somebody and that is the most we can ask for.

Beyond suspension of disbelief
9 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The first thing wrong with this story is depression is anger turned inward and anger imprints and accumulates in the subconscious mind. Finding out you are going to die doesn't make it just go away. What accountant working in an office can play a grand piano like that and how often does a mental hospital have a perfectly tuned grand piano? Aside from these implausabilities the entire movie was very interesting. Now that she is not going to die those two will be at each other's throats within a month. Will there be a sequel?

Painfully awful

Warning: Spoilers
With all the suspended disbelief I could muster I couldn't believe anyone in this movie had ALS. The only thing needed to get hs to talk like that was have a pebble under get tongue and talk s l o w l y. Actors do it all the time. This movie was 100 percent pc certified in Hollywood so the lighter the skin of the actors the more boorish their behaviors (Ali Larter and the two mothers). The darker the skin the more noble though it does get three stars for mixed races eating meals and suffering together in the same movie. Having Hillary and Rossum coming from different backgrounds was totally pointless since Hillary couldn't rise enough to get down and dirty and really enjoy herself the first time in her life. You've seen this movie a thousand times before. Don't waste your money.

Pure Hollywood drivel
11 March 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This movie ended up on my TV set against my desire for the 500th time, I have never reviewed it so here goes: This movie was created unwittingly as the poster child of Hollywood political correctness. Everything about it is makeup fantasy that shows no relation to 1870s reality. First of all no one who fought in the Civil War walked away from it resembling a Hollywood pretty boy. The ones that survived lived through dysentery, amputation, blood poisoning, disease, or death. Don't forget in movies you can die and still walk away.

In this drama an individual single handedly wins the Civil War by charging on a horse with a sword. In reality he probably would have been made a bureaucrat with a cushy job in the Johnson administration. But no, our pretty boy wants to go west because he is too pure to live in nineteenth century white world. He may be pure but he is still a stupid white guy who doesn't yet know yet how wonderful other races are. Follow closely.

Instead, cut to the chase. Evil white world follows him out west and you know the rest. On the way Dances meets a beautiful Hollywood bimbo. In a politically correct western no Hollywood pretty boy (who saved the Union) is going to marry no toothless Indian woman even though (wink wink) Indian women are superior to white women. You see the hierarchy in Hollywood is this: Hollywood bimbo is the center of the universe, the buffalo are next. Then come the Indians who are all equally good - no judgement here. Then comes white women then the rabid dog, then the white male. And That's Hollywood. The cinematography was nice. Of course if made today Dances would by played by a LSMFT - Jim Parsons, Neil Patrick Harris, or Ellen Degeneres? One last note: If a black person had sneaked onto the set all involved would have gotten confused into a catatonic state. What to do then?

Combat! (1962–1967)

Likable but preposterous
28 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
What I remember as a kid was just how easy the German soldiers were killed and how hard it was for the Germans to kill an American. As little I understood about anything as a ten year old I understood that. Whenever a German was shot he would spring up to his feet with his chin up in the air and was hit by three or four more bullets so he died for sure and not have to be treated by the medic. As observed in other reviews only the replacement non regular Americans were killed. Except Long John who was shot probably a dozen times over the years but it was always a shoulder or leg flesh wound. I guess during WWII you had to be shot up pretty good to go home.

In fact every time I watch Combat today on Me TV I still wonder why it took four years to beat the Germans. If they fought as poorly as they do on Combat the European theater should have ended by spring of 1942. Of course I didn't see it at the theater but on TV.

Accurate example of current relationships
9 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Young people in America today are bombarded by sexual imagery, peer pressure, raging hormones, and too early sexual experiences to the point most have had their psyches damaged by the time they reach adulthood. As a result we have a nation of aggressive women who hate, use and abuse men and dopey weak men addicted to porn and afraid of women. Women are angry and men are ashamed.

Misuse of sexuality has turned the nation into something unrecognizable forty years ago. Women have become pushy, bossy and encouraged to get what they want while men have been been demoralized, degraded, and diminished by culture. We are so confused now we elect a cunning, manipulative ah**e who promises us what we want while lying to us about what we really need and what he is really doing to us. That's why movies today are mostly c**p - messed up people only enjoy messed up movies. It's all about good witch vs bad witch - they are all witches! If you put morality in a movie in any form today people flame out because decent people embarrass most of us.

This movie in an imperfect way is about right and wrong. The Jason Ritter character tries to crack the woman's shell by not using her and being strong with her irrational behavior (re My fair Lady). It does the trick since this is something no man has ever done for her before. Her resulting catharsis leads to her turning against her father for independence. Whether the ending of the film could happen in real life is doubtful since couples are more likely to end up beating on each other and taking drugs then breaking up completely. Still the movie is important and should be seen by more people. Movies used to be about right winning over wrong which made them ring true. That is what makes this one so enjoyable.

rebellion as individualism
4 July 2011
This movie was based on the 1960s misconception that conformity is at best weakness and at worst insanity and rebellion is true freedom. Problem is you can't rebel against the devil. At least ten percent of an entire generation destroyed themselves with drugs sex and rock and roll as alternative to being straight (a hypocrite) a condition many of that generation considered the worse form of evil. Truth is the entire 60's generation was exploited by sleazy people who knew how to market it and had no altruistic motivations at all.

As for authority - it often wants you to rebel so they can put you in jail or mental institutions. There would be no police without criminals.

All the Jack Nicholson character had to do was play along a few weeks and he would have been let out. He couldn't stop his behavior thus wasn't free. Although he was a good influence for the other inmates he got himself killed. If you rebel the system has you where they want you.
