Midnight Mass (2021)

An horror piece that's also a great thought-provoking drama!
24 September 2021
Well, Flanagan has taught us that horror is usually better when is supported by a fine drama behind its story. "The Haunting" series proved that, but his new movie/limited series offers us another dimension, as he explores so many important themes like fanaticism in religion, grief, betrayal, self-confidence and self-belief, making this a great drama above all, with the actors giving themselves a masterful performance.

I think it's easily one of his best work, and one of the best year's pieces of not only horror but drama.

Since it's a show that deals with deeper themes and meanings, there will be (like always) manny comments about its slow pace (at least at the beggining), but those are complaints coming from people who probably never saw a Bergman or Dreyer movie, meditating about our lone existence and values, and at the same time giving us important questions that haunt for long after the credits roll.

To me, this is a must-see for any movie freak out there!

Argo (2012)
10/10
Calm down: Argo is just a good thriller
14 November 2012
I enjoyed this film, it's a interesting lost story, with many good jobs by the actors. But, i can't just imagine this film winning best picture in the Oscars, like many people are saying. I'm sorry, i just can't imagine, it's not a film for the ages, although it's really a good thriller. All of it shines like a natural thriller, and nonetheless is understandable that people like this film much, because of the tension it carries with itself. If you look for a good thriller, and very well directed, this is for you, but there's no ensemble cast shining nor a great score or that kind of stuff that Oscar winning pictures always have...

An excellent surprise, yet, but nothing more.

Lincoln (2012)
10/10
Daniel DL + Spielberg = reach perfection !
19 October 2012
This is my first review of a film. I had to do this, because of the effect it had on me. I went to see a screening of "Lincoln" last week, and i was wondering if Spielberg could have done it again, like he did years ago with "Schindler's List", for example. And he did it, that's for sure. That's not "Schindler's List" or "Saving Private Ryan", not even close, but this film captures wonderfully the way the director looks at that piece of history, and though it's probably not the more realistic film ever made about Lincoln (and i don't know if there will ever be one really realistic..), the movie offers tremendous performances (DDL will certainly be honored), a tremendous production design and, not less important,a great score by John Williams, once again! So,basically, i was, still, very surprised by the way Spielberg did it, because it shows a very intimate portrait of Lincoln's personality. And i warn you, this is film is for grown ups, not for teenagers looking for some kind of action war movie about leadership and honor in civil war. That's Spielberg in a kind of different but always faith full way, and i hope it earns lot of nominations in the Oscars this year, and i will not be surprised if Lincoln wins Best Picture in January.

A 10/10, without any doubt ! :)
