Sleepwalk with Me (2012)
so not funny
I saw this on Netflix and thought the premise sounded funny and the cast sounded great. I watch a lot of foreign flicks and Indie films. So, I consider myself very patient and yes, I like Woody Allen. I don't believe in people saying they are "bored" there is always something to do. I am an optimist. Ten minutes in I was so bored, I thought it would get better when he took the stage to perform his stand up but after two of these scenes I did not laugh even once. This is just another movie where some Narcissistic man child thinks an audience will find it interesting to watch the mundane details of his dull life. Literally, we watch him call in to work to tell them "he forgot he had to work". The guy is pushing 40, has wealthy parents, a beautiful girlfriend who he thinks is amazing simply because her yoga students like her. He has a vocal grottal that feels like nails on a chalkboard. The character and the movie have no redeeming qualities. It can only be a case of some sort of nepotism that this was made. Just a typical guy who must be of that generation that was raised being praised and applauded simply for breathing so that they grow up with the delusion that their slightest attempt at humor is interesting to anyone. He is like a male Zoey Deschanel wanna be with all the quirkiness and none of the charm or good looks. I turned it off and debated canceling our subscription to Netflix. It did however give me tremendous confidence, that I, my 10 year old, or even my dog might be able to make an indie film.
Happythankyoumoreplease (2010)
high self worth/no ambition
Didn't get it (in my early 40's). Movie about a bunch of spoiled 20 somethings who drink constantly despite things like an autoimmune disease, possible pregnancy, and watching a child. They are all artist wannabes but pretend to hate wannabes. None have realistic career goals, writer (with no visible source of income), singer, painter, film maker.... So spoiled are they, that they think they are above the law. Though they have lots of funds for their endless beverages, apparently there is no $ for hair washing, cut, & shave. It's a reflection of the generation with the super high esteem and super low accomplishments. Even the singing was mediocre.
Her Married Lover (1999)
worse Lifetime movie ever
If you enjoy watching a 35 + woman behave like an immature naive 17 year old girl then you will enjoy this flick. Her name is Catherine but she prefers Katie. Aside from the horrible acting, the casting is terrible. We are supposed to belief that the 30something gorgeous single woman is so desperate that she is turned on by some old man perv taking advantage of a burglary to cop a feel. He almost throws her over a balcony and attempts to force himself on her against her will, yet she stays with him. Oh, and we are supposed to believe this supermodel 30 something behaves like a wallflower in class and puts private love letters in a large plastic drawer labeled letters. Serioiusly, the main character has the emotional maturity of a adolescent 12 year old. Who casted this movie anyway? it is like a long parade of unattractive men who cannot act. And the fate of Katie rest in their hands....ugh
Just Go with It (2011)
okay
This movie is okay. Definitely not worth ordering on demand but okay from redbox or something. Pros: Jennifer Aniston, Adam Sandler, Nicole Kidman, beautiful Hawaiian scenes, all the women have fairly healthy bodies and are not anorexic skinny, even the young woman Cons: poor writing, weak plot, mediocre humor, annoying accents, casting not believable (child actors look nothing like Jennifer Aniston, Nicole Kidman's spouse ugly,) horrible hair & wardrobe choices, too much make up on Jennifer & horrible black roots on everyone, kids use language completely inappropriate for real kids and in real life would make her a horrible mother, like "fornicate" and the little boy says he watches "Californication"
The Dilemma (2011)
not funny
We rented this for $1.50 because both my husband and I like both Kevin James and Vince Vaughn plus husband has a think for Jennifer Connelly (I will never understand this). Anyway, we were expecting a good laugh as shown in the preview, but this movie was NOT FUNNY. And sorry but neither Vince nor Kevin are good looking enough to carry a movie without being funny. Winona has not aged at all but her acting has gone down hill and her hair and makeup are awful. Then there is Jennifer Connelly, looking skeletal and anorexic playing the emotionless skeleton in tshirts two sizes too small, as always. But, I guess people mistake that for good acting. It was not believable that Winona would risk her marriage for an overtattooed, gun toting, drugged up, unshowered guy, he looked like he would smell bad. Then again on the other hand, Kevin James is only attractive when he's being funny. Which he is NOT, in this movie. Queen Latifah looks and acts great but her lines are poorly written. Vince Vaughn doesn't do anything adorable in this movie to balance out his childish character. The friendship between Vince and James' characters could have been better developed, James was a pouty, preachy, perverted jerk for most of the movie so it was hard to feel empathy for him. There weren't any scenes to convince us of James' character being a good husband or friend, so I couldn't have cared less about what happened to him, so there was no "dilemma" for me. Jennifer Connelly's character was not particularly likable either, so I couldn't have cared less if she got her proposal or not. The scene with Channing Tatum and Vince Vaughn was so uncomfortably violent, I had to leave the room. Good cast, no chemistry for either couple and bad writing.
