Look. Don't expect top notch quality here. This is your typical straight to VHS shlock. I used to eat this kind of film up as a kid on Cinemax. To be honest, this type of filmmaking is hard to come by these days. The VHS/Rental store era was a special time. Shame that this isn't a thing anymore, and streaming sites are more concerned with ensuring top quality (or close to it) film fare. Do yourself a favor. If you come across these old Roger Corman productions, watch it. It may be tough sometimes, but the payoff is worth it.

Bonehill Road (2017)

Back to the basics

Bonehill Road is an interesting title. Yes, it felt as if there were two films wrapped into one, but it worked. What makes it work? The fact that it harkens back to what the film was attempting to capture. That 80's-esque vibe of the classic monster film. Especially with the use of practical make up effects.

Sure, the acting in parts can be a bit rough, but that again goes back to the roots of this film. To not have an appreciation for this type of film, and the directing that went into it leans towards someone that has not experienced films over the years.

Not bad

Warning: Spoilers
As much as I want to, I can not give this more than a slightly above average rating. Not that I didn't enjoy the film, because I did. I am one of the FEW alive it would seem that actually thinks Michael Bay is actually doing a good job on this franchise.

As for this film, it was a popcorn film. However, the turmoil of trust that the Autobots are experiencing in the film is justified. I don't blame them. The Decepticons are not the primary villains here, either. Actually, we don't see any actual Decepticons in this film. I am not really complaining, as the film does give us a reasoning for why we don't hear from them. They are just as afraid of the humans in the film as the Autobots are.

The pace of the film was well done, and felt like it progressed well enough. There was a few points in the plot that felt a bit "over done" in a sense that Bay kind of went on his own with the mythology rather than directly from canon as was done in the first three films. Yes, Bay stuck to canon pretty well using a variety of elements from the original cartoons, while altering some of the concepts to fit the needs of the film.

The ending opens up wide for a sequel...obviously. Who the villains will be is not outright mentioned, but if you know your Transformers history...bring on the Quintesons!

Age of Tomorrow (2014 Video)

Horrible
13 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I really wanted to find something redeeming about this..."movie", but there was not one single thing. It was an utter loss of an hour and a half of my life. Good thing I was bored to begin with.

First off, the acting was..sub par would be a compliment. The only "good" actor in the film was Robert Picardo, and he is entertaining in most things I have seen him in. Everyone else is either stiff, unbelievable in their role, or just a walking cliché.

The special effects make Sharknado look almost realistic. The set pieces were so low budget, I've seen fan films for Star Wars and Star Trek with no budgets do better. There had to have been only ONE alien costume in the entire film because you only saw one physical alien at any given time. Any time there are "multiple aliens" in a shot, it is through the use of clever editing, or the use of post production manipulation (aka cut and paste). CGI in the film was also poor. I've seen better in late 90's Playstation One intro/cut scene videos.

The last real problem, every bit of this film is a cliché. All the way to the ending, which was meant to be a "end of the world" type ending with the clichéd "last stand" confrontation that cuts to the credit roll. It felt like the producers/director/writer took bits of Armageddon, Skyline, Star Wars, Edge of Tomorrow (in title only), Independence Day, and several popular sci-fi invasion films, and tried to piece them together. Much like taking several puzzles, taking the pieces and hammering them together to create a hodge podge image that was simply ugly to look at, and made nearly no sense.

This movie has a 2 out of 10 rating here on IMDb for a reason. It isn't even bad enough to be "good".

Wow, really?

I couldn't stomach this film. It was an atrocious amalgamation of Blade and True Blood. How can I come up with this? Early on in the film, we learn about a synthetic blood substitute for the Vampires. However, in this "film", it doesn't have a name, at least I didn't catch it. Oh, and it was developed in Romania. A little trivia...Romania once was known as Transylvania. Anyhoo, there is a retrovirus turning vampires into a sub-species that hunt on whatever they can feed on. Beyond that, couldn't finish this film. Why? Let us see.

The acting was ridiculous. You can't help but not take any of the characters seriously. You have the goof ball kid from BBC's Primeval trying way to hard to hide his accent, and pretend to be a bad ass vampire hunter. Then, we have his hottie sister, who says virtually NOTHING in the whole show. Then the third member, a stripper that wants to be all pissy with the "badboy" vamp hunter, but is obviously not bright enough to remember long enough why she was mad in the first place. The cop? Eh. His sidekick? Pure comic relief...except he isn't very comical. By the way, Neil Jackson was the main bad guy in the decent Blade TV series.

Anyway, this was NOT a made for TV movie based on the True Blood novels. It was just a rip off of them. Avoid it.
