Not all I wanted to see...
15 October 2003
Sure, it looks great, and the action scenes are very well done and well shot. But the dialogue is appalling. For one thing the women aren't terribly believable in their roles. Especially Lucy Liu, she isn't believable as a villian at all. Uma Thurman is a great actress but her part isn't written very well. The best part of the movie is the anime sequence. There's much more emotion in that then there is in the live action stuff. The writing here is not nearly as good as "Pulp Fiction" or "Resevoir Dogs".

some bits work better, some don't

Some of the sketches in this work better for Python than they did on TV. For example the "How To Defend Yourself Against Fresh Fruit" and "Nudge Nudge" sketches seem to work better on film. But a lot of the classic bits don't work as well as they did the first time the group performed them on "Monty Python's Flying Circus". The "Dead Parrot" sketch, for one, is not nearly as funny. But you do get to see Graham Chapman doing some extremely funny stuff in the "Upperclass Twit of the Year" sketch.

At least 10 times better than everyone says it is

This movie is quite simply awesome. The Mario Brothers rule, and all of you out there know it. Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo have great on screen chemistry and fit the roles of Mario and Luigi perfectly. The goombas are great, and Dennis Hopper is wonderful as King Koopa.
