Adda (2019)
A new wave of Rejuvenation
This is one of those works where intelligence overpowers all the other aspects of storytelling. I think it is very important to know how one would present his narrative before giving it a shape. Director Devayush Chowdhury is seemingly an example of the same. Adda is one of the wittiest renditions representing the cacophony of this joyous city.
Some fantastic performances added to the already fantastic perception of lives in a pandemonium of emotions. The cinematography is top notch, and so is the background score and songs.
Adda is that retelling of the cityscape reflections which will be liked hy people from 15 to 80.
P.S. Don't miss out on the Chini Go Chini Tomare rendition.
Highway (2014)
A story... a poem... a masterpiece...
In one line, "Highway" can be marked out as Imtiaz Ali's best flick till date...(not if we consider "Rockstar" without Nargis Fakhri!...). The story of a rich girl kidnapped by a thug, and the follow up of a series of events leading to both these characters romancing each other has been portrayed many a times before all over the world. But, the story of a girl, who finds freedom while traveling, or being taken to, various places by her kidnappers is something to look out for. The road story moves to another new avenue when the head of the kidnapping gang finds a shoulder to lean on to in our kidnapped damsel. The parallel journey of a gradual building up of the aforementioned girl, played by Alia Bhatt, and the equally gradual breaking up of her kidnapper, played brilliantly by Randeep Hooda, takes place literally on the films protagonist...the "Highway..".. Alia Bhatt requires another mention for her stability throughout the film. We should also turn our attention towards Anil Mehta's cinematography and the excellence with which the director weaved the narrative. Last, but obviously not at all the least, the music and background score by A.R.Rahman requires a standing ovation. in all, "Highway" is a must watch for people who understand emotions.
Ishaqzaade (2012)
Haraamzaade nahin....Ishaaqzaade
Another spellbinding story comes from Habib Faisal....The first thing that should come into your mind after you watch Ishaqzaade is that, though a love story, it is more a story of Zoya, portrayed by Parineeti Chopra. The film portrays the real story of communal violence in India, and behind its veil, it shows the triumphs and sufferings of Zoya, as she is utilized by the society as a scapegoat, and ousted by her family on communal issues. The love it portrays turns out to be a present day perception of Laila-Majnu, but without the tag-line of 'timeless love'....Instead it carries the tag-line of 'the strength of love...."Ishaqzaade ki tarah pyaar kiyethe....Ishaqzaade ki tarah nibhayenge" is what should have come into the mind of Zoya, instead of what she actually said....Parineeti Chopra was outstanding....Arjun Kapoor acted well...but, more than his acting, he surely will win the hearts of many spinsters.....The most outstanding element of the whole film is how it is presented....Music and Editing plays a huge role in this presentation.....even the Production Design was top notch....in all, Ishaqzaade is the type of films that Bollywood should look forward to....catchy story, no melodrama, and a rustic yet urban presentation....
Ladies vs. Ricky Bahl (2011)
A well presented con story.....
When I first heard of "Ladies v/s Ricky Behl"....and saw the first theatrical trailer, I was a little apprehensive about the film...There has been a lot of films all over the world dealing with the topic of conning. Con films have almost become a genre of cinema. But then after watching this particular film, I was impressed. The narrative of the film had something new for the audience, with the titles coming up after 22 minutes running time. Moreover, the film is not a long-drawn story about a big con plan and how you execute it. It deals with a number of different, but mind-boggling con plans, along with an extra spark i.e the different identities that the protagonist takes while conning people. This factor makes it a wee bit different, and a lot more exciting, than many other con films. Now, talking about the cast, Parineeti Chopra was brilliant in her performance. Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma looked good individually, but their chemistry looked better. The other actors also worked whole- heartedly, among whom Dipannita Sharma turned some eyes. In a single line, "Ladies v\s Ricky Behl" is a good story, but a brilliant presentation...
Inception (2010)
Another spellbinding flick by Christopher Nolan
"Inception" is a film which you can watch from many perspectives. It can be named as a fiction.....or it can be named to be a reality based flick..... A great narrative structure combined with overwhelming performances by Leonardo Di Caprio, Ellen Page, Joseph Grodon-Levitt, and others....... Its a film of various dimensions.......and various measures of thrill rides...... And especially look out for the Dream Construction sequences. A very different film if compared to Nolan's other flicks, but a very contemporary concept. Di Caprio's one of the best performances till date. Last but not the least...... "There's a train coming..... Lookout!".....
