You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment (2024)
Revealing documentary on the benefits of a vegan diet
In order to overcome the difference of the effects of food from one human being to another (nature versus nurture), identical twins were chosen in this study to eat either a healthy omnivore diet or a healthy vegan diet.
The results are compelling and the documentary shines a light on the effects of animal farming on the environment as well on humans. Educational about the impact of the food we eat on our mental, physical and sexual health. The livelihood of farm animals and birds as well as the danger to humans regarding ecoli and pathogens. How animal and bird farming could be adapted to plant based farming. It is scientific and diverse.
The contestants cultural backgrounds are challenged and traditions analysed.
Within 8 weeks the people eating the vegan diet had a prolonged biological age, their 'bad cholesterol' went down and their chances of getting cognitive diseases such as the Alzheimer's or dementia was reduced. As well as the risk of stroke and heart disease and diabetes. Muscle mass and fitness went up in some cases.
If this doesn't encourage you to try a vegan diet for health and fitness I don't know what would.

Sweat (2020)
Energetic, thoughtful, entertaining
I liked the trailer. I have pretty good experience of being able to determine from the trailer whether a film is worth seeing. It didn't dissappoint. It's not usual to see Warsaw in a contemporary film - I've never been there, now I can imagine what it's like. The trailer portrays a beautiful young 'influencer' who is really lonely and sad and you go out of curiosity to see what this film has to say about social media and 'popularity' plus it is a colourful film filled with energetic music.
This is a European film as opposed to British or American. It has a clear narrative but allows time to show intimacy or lack of it in human relationships before grabbing you by the neck and hurtling you though a tonne of plot like Amazon or Netflix.
Apart from making me think about the world of social media and 'oversharing', I was intrigued by the relationhip between Sylwia and her family. The tough, critical catholic mother who provides no comfort in her time of need, who would have grown up in a totally differnt world to the one Sylwia is living in and therefore has no sympathy for her troubles. It is not just about not having a partner, there is no intimacy from her family and oddly, going against the grain of what you might think this film is going to be about, she gets that connection from her audience.
A Christmas Gift from Bob (2020)
Lovely sequel to the first film.
Enjoyed this almost as much as the first film of the book. A touching, unique story.
The Loss Adjuster (2020)
Wonderful entertaining Christmas movie!
Saw this film in the cinema and really enjoyed watching Luke Goss (aka Bros) emotionally unwind while his world is falling to pieces. Feel good emotional journey with appearances from Joan Collins and Martin Kemp.
Mother & Baby (2017)
Harrowing documentary on Tuam Mother and Baby home
Very sad story about Tuam Mother and Baby home where hundreds of unwanted babies were left to die. This documentary interviews one of the survivors who tells his story of a brutal and cruel upbringing from constant starvation to mistreatment by adults who treated him as nothing more than a slave. Despite it all he has found some peace today. Story that needs to be told.
