The Forest (2016)
Creepy, well paced, but missing something.
Creepy, but something is missing here.
The Forest is about a young woman (Sarah) who goes into Aokigahara, which is also known as the Suicide Forest, to search for her sister, Jess. Both played by Natalie Dormer. The movie looked creepy enough to get me intrigued. After leaving the movie, I couldn't help but feel like it was missing something.. It felt as if it had a sub-plot written, but was cut before filming. A few of the CGI effects were kinda lame, like when little girls faces turn all ghostly, but the movie does have some good scares. There is a good enough story to keep you interested from start to finish, and a pretty decent, twisted ending. The Forest is creepy, well, paced, and has good tension, but felt was missing a chunk of the film.
The Order: 1886 (2015)
This game is a visual masterpiece.
Do not let the spoiler warning scare you, there is only a very small minor spoiler.
First, I'll start by saying this game had me sold when I first saw the reveal game-play sometime ago. I have been waiting in anticipation for this game since then. Now that It has released, I was not let down. However, just like every game, movie or show, it has its pros and cons.
The developers being able to use the same character models in game and in cut-scene made the game feel like you were watching a movie. That was a risky move, but the game executed it beautifully and it doesn't take away any feel of a video game at the same time. Third person shooter, amazing weapon choices, bad ass fight sequences. Gameplay 10/10.
I am one who plays a game for the story aspect. That's why I own a PlayStation. Their exclusives never fail to amaze me with an amazing story. The Order has a great story to it. And I'll admit it is a little slow getting in to it. But after a few chapters, it picks up and it gets really good. I can't say the same about the ending. There were still a few questions unanswered, and the character development was mainly focused on one person (You), and the ending felt a bit rushed. Story 8/10.
Still, There is a post credit scene that makes up for it a bit, but that's about it. Overall I thought 'The Order: 1886" was a great game, amazing graphics and visuals, impressive game-play and over all a fun adventure. 9/10.
