The Christmas Cure (2017)
Don't waste your time with this one
Of course she worked hard to get herself a career in Los Angeles as head of the trauma department and not live under her father's shadow.
Of course she forgets all this when she finds her old love in her family's small town.
If this was not bad enough, probably the worst part of this movie is that... nothing happens. You just sit there for two hours waiting for something. No drama, no romance, no comedy, no nothing. It's just unbelievably boring. Don't get me wrong, I didn't expect a blockbuster. And I really enjoy family movies. But this one has come characters that are so poorly developed so that me, as a viewer, did not feel any kind of connection with them.
My advice - do not waste two hours of your life with this movie, definitely not worth it.
Waitress (2007)
Don't waste your time with this one...
It started promising... hearing that Keri Russell and Nathan Filion were the protagonists. Jenna is a brilliant baker who works as a waitress and has a miserable life next to her self-absorbed, selfish, violent and horrible husband. And things get worse - she gets pregnant and falls in love with her obstetrician (who is also married, of course). Bad plot, bad development of a (somehow) promising idea. Even the acting is kind of dull. Of course it has a nice ending, with Jenna leaving her husband, getting an unexpected inheritance and living happily ever after with her daughter. But it's not enough to save this bad movie.
Also...poor Joe, the owner of the dining place where Jenna works, dies and leaves her the inheritance. It seemed nice to keep the name of the place as it was (in Joe's memory), not to change it in Lulu's pie whatever... Just a little observation from a person who thought that the only nice thing of the whole movie was the postcard that Joe gave to Jenna.
Woman on Top (2000)
Probably one of the worst movies I have ever seen!
I saw some of the reviews and I'm amazed!
Good things: The only good things about this movie are the Brazilian music and the fact that it's really short (although it will seem like an eternity!)
Plot/characters: The idea is not bad - Isabella is a great chef in her husband's restaurant in a little city of Brazil. He cheats on her, so Isabella decides to go to San Francisco and start her own cooking career. Usually, movies that involve food have great success, but this one is not centered on food... It's on the aroma and the effects of the ingredients. The story seems nice, but it's an illusion. It's developed poorly, the acting is awful (yes,Penelope Cruz included) and even the ending is disappointing. The most complex and kind of funny character is Monica, the heroine's transvestite best friend. (not joking)
It's a real waste of time, I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone!
White Collar: Dentist of Detroit (2011)
White Collar is getting better and better
And that's not just thanks to the great acting and the original storyline. Everything is just getting more and more interesting and every single case manages to be catching and funny. 'Dentist of Detroit' reveals a lot about Mozzie's past (his childhood, how he got his name, etc.) and points out his soft, sensitive side. In addition, the relation between Neal and Peter is still 'growing', as an 'acted' dispute that they have seems to take its words from their real life. The storyline is getting more and more interesting and by the end of the episode, you start to wonder: Did Neal forget where he came from and who he really is? Because he really seems to enjoy working with Peter, on the good side.
Gangs of New York (2002)
Martin Scorsese provides again a great movie
Directed by Martin Scorsese, this movie may be considered by some violent and outrageous, but I enjoyed every second of the 167 minutes. It presents the city of New York, in the 19th century, when the rules were made by city gangs. There is a big battle, between the 'Dead Rabbits', led by 'The Priest' (Liam Neeson) and 'The Natives', led by Bill 'The Butcher' (Daniel Day-Lewis). In the street fight, the Priest is killed just under his son's eyes. 15 years later, Amsterdam Vallon (Leonardo DiCaprio) is back from Ireland, seeking for vengeance: he plans to kill 'The Butcher', the murderer of his father. Amsterdam starts searching his place among thieves, pretending to be 'the Butcher's friend and falling in love with Jenny (Cameron Diaz). Most of the movie is focused on the revenge plan and on the conflict between gangs and races, revealing a more 'realistic' side of the 19th century New York City.
