Invasion (2021–2024)
10/10
Slow as Molasses, Completely Implausible
1 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I watched the whole series because I'm unreasonably stubborn.

Very little of the plot of this movie is in any way coherent. For the first half of the episodes most of the characters are not even aware that an invasion is taking place. Something screwy is going on but no one seems to know what.

When it becomes clear that Aliens are here the premise that they are trying to wipe out the entire human race one human at a time is ludicrous. Simple math would tell you that to eradicate 7 billion human at a rate of say a hundred thousand a day would take nearly 200 years to accomplish.

A hand full of aliens are charged with the task, generously shown to be well less that a hundred between the US, Britain and Afghanistan go about knocking us of one at a time.

What this movie is really about is the emotional crises the main characters are all dealing with. The actors do themselves credit portraying their characters but it all seems kind of beside the point.

The ending is a let down. Everyone is celebrating victory but the movie makes it clear that we won a battle but have no chance to win the war.

Save your time. Rewatch The Thing or something.

The Wheel of Time (2021– )

Trollocs taste better than people
20 November 2021
This unknown fact was the only really interesting part of the 1st 3 episodes of the WOT. Otherwise why would the Trolloc dragging Nynaeve drop her to eat his wounded colleague?

I have read the books. I wouldn't say that I am a big fan. I found the constant negativity of the main characters boring to the point of distraction. Still a compelling enough saga to warrant finishing the series.

The TV show is terrible. Acting and CGI are subpar. If you've read the books the changes are jarring. If you haven't the story is mediocre.

We've had successful adaptations for LOTR and SOFAI (GOT). This is not. I've no empathy for any of the main characters. Mat's character is particularly off. He's more of a scamp than a crooked creep. Sex between Rand and Egwene was particularly inappropriate. Moiraine and Lan are better but Moiraine was not nearly as fragile as portrayed here.

I'll probably watch another episode or two on the off chance it get better. Not hopefull.

Strike Back: Legacy: Part 1 (2015)
Season 5, Episode 1
7/10
Overused plot device
21 August 2021
I really like this show. Well cast and acted with exciting story lines . . . I'm up to Season 5 now.

However, it would be nice if a mission went as planned every now and then.

It's getting kind of old. At the start you know without a doubt that the mission will go sideways and the bad guys will get away with the bomb, hostage or whatever and Michael, Damien and crew will battle a hoard of foes and chase the key bad guys with thrilling abandon but will come up short by a whisker.

I hope the writers have realized they've fallen into a rut and come up with something not so repetitive for a story line.

Station 19: I Guess I'm Floating (2021)
Season 4, Episode 13
3/10
Let's just ignore reality altogether
8 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I like this show. The characters and actors are terrific. The tie in with Grey's Anatomy makes for a much broader universe for the show to live in.

That being said this episode sucked. First and foremost, the water off Seattle this time of year is pretty much 50° F. Survival time in water that cold is 1 to 3 hours. Ben and Dean had to be in that water for more that 6 hours to have washed up on the beach the next morning. They would have joined Jack and most of the Titanic's passengers at the bottom of the ocean well before then. Should have given them a large piece of wood to float on.

I realize the situation was created to advance the BLM issue via the conversation and flashbacks but I was completely distracted by the phony alone in the ocean scenario.

I think it's fine to keep the issues alive in the show but don't ignore everything else that makes the show popular doing it. Jack Dawsonz.
